Fort Mountain Trailwinders Ready For Start Of Snowmobile Season

The Fort Mountain Trailwinders, Epsom’s local snowmobile club, has had a busy month. On December 13th, we held an OHRV Safety course for thirty youth and some of their parents. Bruce Blye and Scott Hahn did a great job making the class interactive and fun for everyone. A huge thanks to Fish & Game, the Epsom Fire Department and all of our volunteers who helped to make this a great experience for everyone.

On the same day, lots of work was going on out on the trails. The last piece of the new trail was completed and a new temporary bridge in the Twin Star area was decked. All the hard work over the summer and fall has paid off with an expanded, safer trail system ready for the start of the season.

On the new and improved trail system, Primary 360 runs from Granny Howe Road all the way to Bear Brook by cutting across Route 28 going around to the field behind Bickford’s, across Route 4 and the Shingle Mill bridge, then goes up the hill and turns LEFT. The trail then crosses Black Hall Road. There are two new bridges on this section of trail that follows the old railroad bed to New Rye Road by the Odd Fellows Hall. The trail then crosses River Road and continues out toward the power line, at the power line take a right to continue on to Bear Brook.

The junction for Primary 361 is across from Bickford’s, go up the hill and take a RIGHT. This trail continues over three new bridges to Sanborn Hill Road, turns left and then an immediate right. Travelling over two more new bridges, the trail continues on to Mountain Road. Taking a left and then a quick right will head you out toward Tarleton Road past the gun range and mill pond on your right. Once on Tarleton Road take another left and quick right to the trail that winds past the ledges on an old logging road that takes you to Center Hill Road. The trail goes across three fields and turns right onto the old 361 which will take you to Northwood Lake. This new trail bypasses all of the washouts, rocks and narrow areas on the old trail.

There are two Club connecting trails which will also be kept open from the top of the hill across from Bickford’s to the left onto lower Sanborn Hill Road to Snowmobile Junction. From this junction you can go right to Mountain Road or left to cross lower Center Hill Road. The left trail crosses Cass Road and travels behind the housing development to Northwood Lake. This is a narrow trail and could have some wet holes. The trail to the right will take you from Mountain Road to Swamp Road, if you stay straight on Swamp Road, you will need to turn down a driveway to access the power lines and the trail to Bear Brook.

For more information on trail conditions, please check our web site at http://fortmountaintrailwinders.snowclubs.com.

Letter
Surprise, Surprise, Surprise

This word is described as: “ an unexpected or astonishing event or circumstance” Many are familiar with it as relating to the opening of a Christmas gift. As a rule all are surprised and thankful followed by a hug and a kiss.

Many families were unable to repeat this gift giving social gathering event this year and may not be able to match it next year. My last surprise caught me totally unaware nearing an element of shock. The Epsom Town Office Building Committee is advocating a freestanding building between the relatively new town library and the Historic Meeting House formerly known as A Baptist Church. The purpose for the structure is for the town’s future office needs.

This my friends is $$$$ a surprise $$$$ and totally out of line. You will recall that prior studies and interest in the basement of the church for town’s office needs was talk of the town. Finally we have learned to utilize what we have - so I thought. If this latter move  (to the church ) is executed you will see a valuable surprise costing very few $$$$.

I am offering my time to help with the necessary basement work. I know others who will do the same. All will benefit by this in many ways.
