Daffodil Bulbs Ready For All Who Volunteered
The Epsom Conservation Commission and your neighbors thank you
so very much for your contribution to Earth Day Clean-up. By
participating in Epsom’s Roadside Clean-up this past spring you are eligible for daffodil bulbs.
This year the Town of Epsom and the Conservation Commission
participated in the NH Litter Free Program which donated the
daffodil bulbs. We know it can be frustrating seeing the roadside
trash return but we hope you will participate again and consider
adopting some area or road in Epsom. We encourage all Epsom
Residents to help with roadside clean-up. There were Girl Scouts who
cleaned up Goboro Road and families who cleaned up parts of
Whitehall Drive, Elkins Road, Center Hill Road, Sanborn Hill Road,
Old Turnpike Road, Old Town Road, Leighton Brook, Mountain and Old
Mountain Road, Tarleton Road, New Orchard Road, Range Road, Colby
Road, Oak Ridge Road and the area around the school. The
participants who helped with the roads listed, have personalized
bags of daffodils available for pick up at the library before
October 1.
We know that others volunteered in the park and other
areas. If you contributed to Litter Free Epsom this year and you
would like some daffodil bulbs please go to the library and you will
be eligible for a dozen daffodil bulbs. Just leave your name, e-mail
address and the area you cleaned up on the list at the library.
Again thanks to all who care and volunteer to make NH more
beautiful.
Sincerely, The Epsom Conservation Commission,
Elsie Fife, Sarah Barnum, and Alison Parodi-Bieling

The Art Of Shawn M. Smith
The Art of Shawn M. Smith will be exhibited at the Epsom Town
Library. The exhibit titled “Reflections” starts October 1st and
runs through November 15th with a reception to meet the artist in
person on Friday October 9th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Reflections
is a collection of mixed media and showcases the artist’s many
different styles and techniques from the serene realism of his
intimate and thought provoking pen and inks to his free and
expressive watercolors. Smith has done many murals throughout New
England, and can currently be found working on his latest creation,
a mural at the Oasis Christian Church in Concord tentatively titled
“ The Life of Christ.”
Smith, a single father of three lives with
his son Ethan in Concord and is keeping busy these days by creating
greeting cards and doing portraits and house portraits. Once you
meet him you’d never know that he had to overcome many adversities
in his life from poverty and abuse to homelessness.
“I’ve come a
long way from a family of seven living in a shed, with no running
water and no electricity. We had a pot belly stove, a Coleman
lantern, we had a picnic bench for a dining room table and two beds
for the seven of us. To this day, I still sleep on the very edge of
my bed and somehow I don’t fall off. One of our happiest day’s was
when we got our outhouse.
I try to stay positive, but you can’t
help but feel badly for people in today’s economy. I have done
artwork for food. You have to do what you can to survive these days.
Believe me, I know how far from being on the streets we all are,”
Smith commented.
Smith’s life and emotions can be seen and felt
in his work.
Smith continued, “I hope to see some old friends and
make some new ones, and I have some special friends that I would
like to thank because all of this would not be possible without
their kindness and generosity, especially Dave Beaucher , Katie
Charron, and Tom Hardy of Beaumac, and everyone from the Oasis
Christian Church in Concord, Rowlands Studio, and Town and Country
Reprographics and RC Home Painting. These people have seen me
through some very difficult times and I am forever in- debited to
them.”
“Reflections”, a must see.
