as we partake of the Lord’s Supper in remembrance of this significant day in
the Christian Faith. Also, during this special Lenten Service, the Chancel
Choir, under the direction of Music Director, Ashley Morgan, will present

Letter
To my constituents in Allenstown, Epsom, & Pittsfield:
Last week the legislature dealt with over 250 bills. The three bills I got
the most letters, calls, and emails about were HB 166 (the beer tax), HB 415
(the “bathroom bill”) and HB 436 (gay marriage). The beer tax was defeated
314 to 35, with all representatives from the district voting for defeat. HB
415 was also defeated. HB436 was debated for three hours, and failed on the
first vote; after some maneuvers it passed, 186 to 179. I was the only
representative from our district to vote against either of these bills.
Some other significant bills passed include: HB 556, which repealed the
death penalty; HB 312, which allows citizens to videotape on-duty police
officers, as officers can record citizens; HB 648, allowing medical use of
marijuana in strictly controlled situations; and HB 532, which banned police
and firemen from applying “special duty” pay towards their pensions. Special
duty pay is earned working for private companies, and can increase pensions
significantly. Another bill, HB 591, which would have limited state pensions
to no more than 100% of pay, failed. I voted for both HB 532 and HB 591; the
other representatives from Epsom voted against both.
We killed many bills, often deservedly: HB 224, which required bright
bathing caps when swimming too far from shore in the big lakes!
Unfortunately, we also killed HB 109, which would allow health insurance
free from government mandates and three bills requiring parental
notification before minors could have an abortion. This was notable because
we unanimously passed HB 509, requiring parental permission before schools
could give psychological tests!
Anyone interested in what is going on in the State House is invited to email
or call me.
