Pembroke Academy Players go Into the Woods
The PA Players of Pembroke Academy will be performing
Stephen Sondheim’s and James Lapine’s award winning musical Into the
Woods, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 12, 13 and 14.
This brilliant opus, a hybrid cross between Gilbert and Sullivan
Gone Wild and Fractured Fairy Tales on steroids, features the well
loved tales of Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk,
Rapunzel and the generic baker and his wife who live next door to
the neighborhood witch who raps and grows magic beans. These are
accompanied, stalked, harassed and coddled by mothers and
step-mothers, handsome princes and seductive wolves, members of
households and a milky white cow. As each character finds his reason
to venture into the woods, their paths inevitably collide, become
entangled like too much shoelace on too little shoe, and ensnare the
audience in hilarious satisfaction, as each finds his happy ever
after at the end of the first act… …which leads inevitably to the
second act, where “ever after” takes on a whole new twist, and a
closer look at what really matters.
The work includes the most challenging musical score undertaken
by Pembroke Academy in decades. Under the accomplished direction of
Musical Director Cheryl Lafond, and the virtuosity of sophomore
pianist Emily Goulet, the singer musicians style a performance that
will not be forgotten. Here you will see seniors Matt Eaton and Kara
Kirby as the Baker and the Baker’s Wife, Brian Malik as the
Narrator, Amanda Kruczynski as the Witch, and Sam Nolin as Sleeping
Beauty; juniors Amanda Letendre as Rapunzel, Chelsea Carlson as
Cinderella, and Kali Mara as Red Riding Hood; sophomores Sebastien
Mehegan as Rapunzel’s Prince and Eli McTigue as Cinderella’s prince
and Red’s Wolf, Jen Currier as Jack’s mom, Emily Lawson as
Cinderella’s step-mother, Rachel Armbricht as Red’s Grandmother,
Dylan Letendre as Cinderella’s father; and Freshmen Matt Persons as
Jack, Kristen Hartley and Meredith Marshall as the step-sisters, and
Meghan Jenks as Snow White. The PA Players, directed by Mr. Peter L.
Mehegan, are proud members of the International Thespian Society.
The curtain opens promptly at 7:00, with a special matinee
performance Saturday at 2:00. Tickets are seven dollars in advance
and ten dollars at the door.
Tickets can be reserved by calling 485-7881, or purchased in
Pembroke Academy’s front office, or directly from cast members. The
performances are by special arrangements made with Music Theater
International.
