Another Great Benefit BBQ Chicken Dinner sponsored
by the American Legion Post 112, Short Falls Road,
Epsom, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008,
from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m.
Donation: Adults, $7.00; Children, 6-12, $4.00;
Under 6, FREE.
Bring your appetite! The menu will consist of BBQ
chicken, homemade baked beans, potato and macaroni
salads, vegetables, beverages and homemade pies.
Door prizes and raffles.
All proceeds to benefit Post 112 Community
Activities.

Quilt Exhibit At Epsom Public Library
The Epsom Public Library is pleased to present a
stunning exhibit of quilts by former Epsom resident,
June Pease. June’s award-winning quilts are known by
quilters near and far for their masterful color
combinations and superb craftsmanship. The exhibit
includes quilts in a wide variety of sizes,
patterns, fabrics and techniques; truly a feast for
the eyes. The quilts may be viewed at the library,
through October 18, during regular library hours:
Mon. -Thurs., 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sat., 9 a.m.-1
.pm. Additionally, on Saturday, October 11, the
public is invited to meet the artist at a gallery
talk/ trunk show at 1 p.m., followed by a reception
from 2 to 4 p.m. For more information, call

Epsom Public Library News
Several programs and workshops are scheduled at the
Epsom Public Library throughout September and
October.
Fran Nash will hold a Meditation Class on September
18 from 7-8 P.M., and on October 9, Aaron Baker will
return with another Photography Class at 7 P.M.
The University of New Hampshire Cooperative
Extension and Concord Hospital will offer a program
on advance care planning at the library on October
16 from 12:30-2:00 P.M. “Advance Care Directives:
Who Will Decide?” will cover recent changes made to
the N.H. Advance Care Planning Law. UNH Cooperative
Extension Family and Consumer Resource Educator
Marilyn Sullivan and Spiritual Care Counselor
Deborah Clark of Concord Hospital will present the
program. Pre-registration, though not required, is
requested and may be done by calling the Epsom
Library at 736-9920 by October 14. Anyone requiring
special accommodations in order to attend is asked
to call the Merrimack County Extension office at
225-5505 at least 15 days prior to the seminar.
Cathy Dyment, a Certified Identity Theft Risk
Management Specialist, will present a workshop,
“What You Don’t Know About Identity Theft,” at the
library on October 23 at 7:00 P.M. Identity theft
is the top consumer complaint reported to the
Federal Trade Commission and isn’t related only to
credit cards. Identity thieves also use the
identities they’ve stolen to secure loans, bank
accounts, driver’s licenses, and much more. Cathy is
one of the first individuals in this area to receive
this special certification, qualifying her to
counsel individuals about identity theft.
On September 24 the Book Discussion Group will meet
at 6:30 P.M. to discuss Anne Fadiman’s The Spirit
Catches You And You Fall Down. Anyone wishing to
join the group is invited to stop by the library to
obtain a copy of the book.
Toddler Time meets at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesdays, and
Story Time with Mrs. Benner is at 2:00 on Tuesdays
and 3:30 on Thursdays.
NH the Beautiful Inc. Helps Candia Purchase a
Horizontal Baler
The Town of Candia received a grant of $5,000 from
NH the Beautiful towards the purchase of a
Horizontal Baler for their recently opened Recycling
Center/Transfer Station at Deer Run Road. The
purchase of the horizontal baler is considered to be
the centerpiece of their new facility and will play
a key role in improving and expanding their
recycling programs. Candia will now be able to bale
commodities, saving critical space and now for the
first time will include a comprehensive plastic
recycling program. John Dumais, NH Grocers
Association/NH the Beautiful Inc presented the check
to Fred Kelley, Chairman, Board of Selectmen. Also
present were: Fuat Ari, Northeast Resource Recovery
Assoc., Chuck Whitcher, Transfer Station Manager and
Amanda Soares, Candia Recycling Committee.
NH the Beautiful, Inc. (www.nhthebeautiful.org)
is a private non-profit charitable trust,
celebrating their 25th Anniversary, was founded in
1983 and is supported by the soft drink, malt
beverage and grocery industries of New Hampshire.
Since their inception they have distributed over
$1.5 million worth of grants to municipalities for
the purchase of recycling equipment, including bins,
balers, crushers, Sand Dollar Beach Cleaner and
containers as well as promoting recycling in NH
Schools. The Northeast Resource Recovery Association

is administrator for the New Hampshire the
Beautiful, Inc.
