Chichester Town Library News

“New England Quilts and the Stories They Tell” is scheduled for the 20th at 6 p.m. at the Grange. Participants are encouraged to bring in a quilt for display and comment by the presenter, Pamela Weeks.  Pamela is an authority on quilts, their histories and their stories.  Refreshments will be available.  Thanks to the NH Humanities on the Go program for making this program possible.

School vacation is next week.  The library will be observing regular hours, but Toddler Time on Tuesday the 26th and Preschool Story and Craft Hour on Thursday the 27th will not be meeting.

The Knitting Circle will meet on February 20th and 27th at 3:30 p.m.

A special LEGO Day is scheduled for Thursday, February 28th, starting at 10:45 a.m.We’re in the middle of a week of “Random Acts of Kindness.”

We hope the readers of this are both givers and receivers of such acts.   The library is participating by giving away a book bag filled with books.  The book bag is a Marvel comics tote bag.  The three books are brand new, and a surprise.  All patrons have to do is guess how many books the Library has, not including books in the bookstore.  The winner will be the closest guess to how many books we have in the Library.  The contest started on February 19th and will continue until we have a winner.

We have great news to report on the progress of the Children’s Area Renovation Project.  A design has been selected, as well as a vendor for the majority of shelving and display work.  These projects are not easy.  Much appreciation is due to Lucille Noel, Barbara Pappas and Director Caroline Pynes for their continued efforts.  We can’t think of better individuals to spearhead this project.  Stay tuned as this project continues.

Officer Arnone of the Chichester Police Department is a member of the Battle of the Badges police vs fire! This is a great organization that raises money for the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth.  Joe Darrah of Pittsfield was generous and made a $500 donation toward Officer Arnone’s $10,000 goal. Letter To The Editor

Chichester will have several proposed zoning amendments on the March ballot, including a change from the old soils-based zoning to the standard zoning district method of zoning. However, soils will continue to be a significant factor in Chichester’s land use development.

The Chichester Wetlands, Steeplands, and Flood Zone Provisions in our Zoning Ordinance will continue to be in effect and all of The State of NH Department of Environmental Services Laws will still apply. NH DES will continue to enforce septic system designs and installations in accordance with RSA 485 A:29 – 44 and NH DES will continue to regulate private well radii per RSA 485A:30-b. NH DES will also continue to regulate all of the “Alteration of Terrain” permits for disturbances over 100,000 square feet per RSA 483-B Shoreline Protection, Stormwater Management, Erosion Control, Wetlands Management, Drinking Water requirements, and all other NH DES programs will continue to be enforced per RSA.

The proposed zoning changes in Chichester will not alter the current role of NH DES to perform their functions to insure public safety. The proposed Chichester Zoning Amendments change our basis for zoning because the soils descriptions that are the basis of our current zoning do not exist anymore. We need a new zoning ordinance that is governed by the residents of Chichester instead of the current level of understanding of soil properties.

Please vote YES for the proposed zoning amendments. Thanks.

Chichester Central School students and staff were able to celebrate the 100th day of school with some special visitors at school. The organization Wildlife Encounters, an animal education and rescue organization, brought six animals representing regions around the globe that CCS students have been studying for their upcoming Multicultural Fair. There was a Russian tortoise, Gray fox, Dumeril monitor, Patagonian Mara, a ferret from Ireland, and a desert snake.  Students were able to see all of the animals up close and ask many questions during the assembly. After the assembly, the Chichester  PTO treated students and staff to a special dessert at lunch for our 100th day of school. Thank you to the PTO for making the day special for the entire CCS community.

March 9th Chichester School District Meeting

The date of the meeting and voting on the proposed 2019-2020 budget  is Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 9 AM. The school district budget encompasses educating all Chichester students whether at CCS, Pembroke Academy, or alternative locations. It is important for families to understand the school budget as this impacts all Chichester students. While the entire budget is to be discussed and voted upon at the meeting, specific items that have been proposed for next year’s budget include the addition of teachers for our growing classes, a band program, and technology updates. The proposed budget for 2019-2020 includes a teacher position to replace one that moved due to increased kindergarten enrollment in this school year, a second teacher position to prepare for the next incoming kindergarten class, funding to start a Chichester school band, and replenishment of technology devices to continue our 1-1 program at school. All Chichester families should mark their calendar for March 9 and plan on attending and participating in this important School District meeting as voting on the school budget affects every family. Childcare will be provided as well as snacks (children must be out of diapers).

The proposed budget and warrant articles for citizens to vote upon is available on our website. A link to the budget documents will also be in the morning blog.  Attendance and participation at the School District Meeting on March 9 is important for all in our school and community.
