David Marden and his daughter Kimberly Marden, former Chichester residents who have been away for many years, are visiting in New Hampshire and would like to reconnect with old friends and acquaintances. They are holding a ”Meet and Greet” on Friday, September 28, from 2 to 4 pm. at the pavilion in Carpenter Park, Route 28 and Bear Hill Road.  Please stop by.

Chichester Grange will meet on Wednesday, October 3, upstairs in the Grange Hall. There will be a shepherd’s pie supper at 6 pm and the meeting will follow at 7.

Quick Reminder

When performing barn, garage, basement, or house cleanouts, please be mindful of hazardous items that may be stored within the contents.

Recently, ammunition has been exploding in the garbage bunker at the BCEP facility. This is a VERY DANGEROUS situation for employees and patrons alike.

Please do not dispose of ammunition in the trash.  Bring it into the office or hand it to a staff member.  As always, when in doubt, don’t just throw it out, ASK an attendant for assistance. Questions, (603)435-6237.

Chichester Town Library News

Preschool Story and Craft Hour is one of the library’s programs encouraging our youngest population to become acquainted with, and feel comfortable in, the library; to know the Library Director and staff; and, of course, to develop a life-long love for books and reading.   Caroline, the Director, and Sara Wright, one of our newer staff members, are directly involved with this program, with the volunteer help of Barbara Pappas.  They will meet tomorrow, September 27th, at 10:45 a.m.

The Down Cellar Poets’ Workshop is scheduled for Monday, October 1st, at 7 p.m.

On Friday, October 5th, at 7 p.m. at the Grange, a program will be presented by New Hampshire Audubon entitled “Wings of the Night: Owls and Bats.”  While both of these nocturnal animals rely heavily on their sense of hearing to survive, each has its own way of catching prey. This is a great way to learn about them, up close and personal, since there will be a live owl at the presentation.

The end of September already?  That means there is a Down Cellar Used Book Sale right around the corner.  The themes include Halloween and harvest time.  In addition, we’ll be building on the successes of the past two sales with this sale.  On October 6th, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., we will continue with the half-price sale of collectible and vintage books (unless otherwise noted), as we have with the past two sales.  In addition to the books, this sale will include a Vintage and Collectible Sale of goods, much like the format for the Farmers’ Market of September.  Vendors wishing to sell vintage and/or collectible items will be allotted a 10’x10’ space, in which they can set up a pop-up tent and table/display.  There will be a $5 fee to vendors.  With limited space, the library needs interested vendors to contact the library either by calling 603-798-5613, e-mailing the Library Director at [email protected] or stopping by in person.  There is no rain date.

There is only one more Down Under Used Book Sale scheduled for the calendar year, and that is November 3rd.  Although the Used Book Section is open to the public when the library is open (excluding when programs are being held or right before a book sale), the scheduled sales offer the assistance of Lovers of the Chichester Library to help customers find books and check them out.  We are always appreciative of the generous participants of the sales, as well as those who donate books.

You might have noticed free books available to the public in different spots around Town and elsewhere, in addition to the Little Book Houses.  The library is partnering with various community sites to offer some of the “extra” books we have for their customers’ enjoyment.
