Chichester Town Library News

Schools are starting, and the Library remains a great resource for students and teachers.  In fact, teachers have been finding lots of books to help them connect with their students and provide them with even more information.

The Knitting Circle will continue to meet on Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m.

Monday, September 3rd, is Labor Day and the library will be closed.

On Thursday, September 6th at 7 p.m., the library with the help of the Humanities Council to Go program is sponsoring “The Vietnam War: Diverse Perspectives.”  It includes a 28-minute video with stories from a journalist, an anti-war activist, an author and combat soldier, a South Vietnamese refugee, an ARVN officer and several US Marines.  This video, and other similar ones, have often been used as an introduction to Ken Burns’ documentary on the war.  A lot of lessons were learned in response to this war and to the reactions of the general populous, since there was no other situation so polarizing at the time.  This program will be facilitated by Suzanne Brown, who has worked with veterans and the staff of veterans’ hospitals for several years.  Ms. Brown has recently retired from Dartmouth College after teaching there for over thirty-five years.  Because of the anticipated interest, the program will be held at the Grange/Town Hall.

The themes for the September 8th Down Under Used Book Sale have been growing.  They include grilling, since there is still time to enjoy a backyard barbeque, cooking and canning, as well as back-to-school.  August’s sale saw quite an interest in the collectibles and vintage books; therefore, the one-half price sale on these treasures is being extended for September.

The Farmers’ Market held in conjunction with this sale is always popular.  We continue to add vendors, but we hope to have even more before the sale.  Vendors are asked to contact the library to register.  Space is limited to 10X10 feet.  There is no rain date.
