Chichester Town Library News
The
Down Cellar Writers will be meeting Monday, August 27th at 7 p.m.
The
Knitting Circle meets on Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m.
Donations of used books that are in good shape are always welcome.
Magazines, encyclopedias, outdated textbooks and any materials that
are musty, moldy or otherwise damaged either do not sell or cannot
be sold. Thanking all in advance for adherence to these
guidelines. We recently had to find a way to dispose of
multiple boxes of books and materials which could not be sold.
The
September 8th Down Under Used Book Sale has a theme of canning and
back-to-school. Because of the interest in the collectibles
and vintage books, the one-half price sale is being extended for
September. The library is also hosting a Farmers’ Market in
conjunction with the sale. A few vendors have signed up, but
we hope more contact the library to register.
The
Humanities Council To Go is helping the library bring back a
favorite program: Dudley Laufman will play for, and lead
attendees in “Contra Dancing, Then and Now” on Friday, August 24th
at 7 p.m. at the Grange/Town Hall. Because of its popularity,
this program has brought out so many people that we have to be very
conscious of the attendee limit of the hall. Come early to
make sure you can join in the fun.
On
Thursday, September 6th at 7 p.m., the library, also with the help
of the Humanities Council to Go program, is sponsoring “The Vietnam
War: Diverse Perspectives.” It includes a 28-minute video with
stories from a journalist, an anti-war activist, an author and
combat soldier, a South Vietnamese refugee, an ARVN officer and
several US Marines. It will be facilitated by Suzanne Brown,
who has worked with veterans and the staff of veterans’ hospitals
for several years. Ms. Brown has recently retired from
Dartmouth College after teaching there for over thirty-five years.
Because of the anticipated interest, the program will be held at the
Grange/Town Hall.
2018-19 Chichester Central School News
Submitted By Brian Beaverstock, Principal, Chichester Central School
On
behalf of the teachers and entire staff at Chichester Central
School, we hope you have had a safe and enjoyable summer. We
are looking forward to welcoming back all of our students for the
2018-19 school year. The classrooms are in order, hallways are
waxed and shined, and the school facility has recieved many
important upgrades. The teaching staff is gearing up for an
exciting year of learning and growing together with our students.
All students should have received a “welcome” letter from their
homeroom teacher which will list necessary supplies for the school
year.
Tuesday, August 28, is our first day of school. Please look
over the bus routes as some times and stops have changed.
Students should be at their designated bus stop at least 10 minutes
before their scheduled time in the first week of school so we can
gauge their pick-up time and bus route correctly. Parents who are
dropping off their children can do so after 8 and as close to 8:10
as possible as students may begin entering their homeroom at 8:10
and the school day will officially begin at 8:15 AM.
The
lunch price for students will be $2.50 for K-4 students and $2.70
for students in grades 5-8. More information including our
school lunch menu will be posted on our website and on our google
calendar. Please get to know our website and visit us often for
information about our school. Chichester Central School is on
social media to share all the learning we are doing and keep
families up-to- date with events and information. Like us on
Facebook!
Incoming kindergarten students are invited to an orientation to
school with their parents and an opportunity to practice riding the
school bus on Monday, August 27. Please meet at school in our
kindergarten entrance at CCS at 2 PM that afternoon. The PTO
will once again be hosting our fabulous Back to School Barbeque on
Wednesday, September 5 at 5 PM. SAVE THE DATE! Carpooling for
this event is strongly encouraged as there is limited parking at
school. After everyone is fed, families are encouraged to meet
the teachers and tour the school as part of the annual Open House at
6 PM.
Our
school will be undergoing many exciting changes in 2018-19. We
are moving with the rest of the SAU #53 schools to competency based
grading. Assessing student work and progress at all K-8 grade
levels and areas of curriculum will be based on individual
competencies, or standards, and not by an average grade. To
better facilitate monitoring a student’s progress, we have also
changed to a new student information system called ALMA. As
the school year begins, we will be sharing more information about
the move to competency grading and how to access your student’s
account on ALMA. Visit our website’s page
http://ccs.sau53.org/academics/grading/ for information now to
get a head start.
We
had an amazing year last year with many changes and additions to our
programs at school and I am eagerly anticipating another great year
of learning for all at CCS. Students in grades 5-8…be sure to
complete your summer reading book and your summer reading assignment
on google classroom. Enjoy this last week of summer and please
call the school at 798-5651 if there are any questions!
