Caramba Soccer Camp
is returning to Chichester again this year. This is a great camp to
get the kids ready for soccer season. Please read the fine print on
the bottom of the registration form. If you are from Chichester and
are signing up for the Chichester camp, there is a discounted price
for Chichester residents.
The deadline for CYA
Soccer registrations and Caramba Soccer camp registration forms is
July 15th. Please send them in soon, so no one misses the deadline.

The Annual Picnic at
Thunder Bridge on Depot Road, hosted by the Chichester Historical
Society, will take place on Monday, July 9 at 6:30 p.m. Bring a
sandwich and a lawn chair. This Historical Society will provide
lemonade, watermelon, and desserts. In case of rain there will be an
indoor picnic at the Historical Society Museum, 49 Main Street.

June has just flown by!
Thank you for your donations, and a special Thank You from the
Liberty House for those who donated for the homeless veterans.
They were very appreciative. Right now, they do not need any
more winter clothing as they have to put it in storage.
June 28th is the last
Thursday of the month which means 1/2 price day! Stock up on summer
tees, tanks and shorts. There is a tub of boys bathing suits and
shorts under the men’s pants.

throughout the year on Wednesday afternoons at 3:30 p.m.
The Summer Reading
Program, entitled “Libraries Rock!,” kicks off tomorrow, Thursday,
the 28th, at 10:30 a.m. with “Messy Art Day.” Besides signing
up, kids can expect a fun morning, to include: rock painting,
a volcano, sand painting, tie-dying t-shirts (bring your own shirt
to dye), ice chalk painting and puzzling with mosaic stickers.

Next week is Independence
Day, a holiday celebrating our freedom. Besides wishing
everyone a safe and happy holiday, the library has two events
planned that help highlight the country and its foundations.
First, on Friday July 6th (and with the assistance of Humanities To
Go) at 7 p.m. at the Grange/Town Hall, “Songs of Emigration:
Storytelling through Traditional Celtic Music” will be presented by
well-known, award-winning fiddler Jordan Tirrell-Wysocki. This
should be another exceptional evening for all. There is no
cost and refreshments will be available.
Secondly, the library
will be featuring patriotic-themed books at the July 7th Book Sale,
from 8 a.m. through 1 p.m. Look for specially priced books
displayed for your convenience and pleasure. Acknowledging
that the summer often brings vacations that include relaxing and
enjoying a good book, we will also be displaying “Good Books to
Read” at the book sale. Knowing this is very subjective,
expect to see a couple of different genres featured. Hope to
see you there!
The Down Cellar Poets
group, facilitated by Jimmy Pappas, is expected to meet on Monday,
July 2nd, at 7 p.m.
LIBRARIES ROCK!
Chichester Town Library Summer Reading Program
“Schools Out for the
Summer” was a popular song announcing the excitement for the season
of no homework and lots of playtime. In about a week, our kids
are often already saying, “What’s there to do?”
Never fear, your library
is here with lots of fun activities planned in conjunction with the
national libraries summer reading program, “Libraries Rock!”
The kick-off is on Thursday, June 28th at 10:30 a.m. with a Messy
Art Day. At that time, kids should come in to sign up for
their participation throughout the summer; although, if they can’t
be there that day, sign-ups can occur whenever they come into the
library. There will be contracts to sign, one for kids ages
3-6 and one for those 7-18 years old. The contract for the
younger ones is to read as many books as possible over the summer,
keeping track of what books they have read on a sheet that will be
provided. For every book they read, they should then come into
the library, tell Librarian Caroline or, in her absence, a staff
member about the story and show them the book. They will then
get a prize. At the end of the summer, they can turn in their
book list for even more prizes.
Kids ages 7-18 are
expected to read at least five books over the summer and will turn
in their list at the finale of the Summer Reading Program on August
8th. Prizes from Chucksters or Frekey’s will be awarded at
that time.
In the meantime, Messy
Art Day activities will include a volcano, rock painting, sand
painting, tie-dying t-shirts (bring your own shirt to dye), ice
chalk painting and puzzling with mosaic stickers. Even though
some of the activities have been planned for outside and, therefore,
are weather dependent, there will still be lots to do if it rains.
Chichester Town Library
will be rocking with turtles on Thursday, July 19th at 10:30 a.m.
when Mary, aka the Turtle Lady, will be here for her presentation
recommended for kids 3-10 years of age. An additional sign-up
is needed.
Monday, July 23rd, the
Lighthouse A Capella Voice Ensemble will be coming to the Town
Hall/Grange at 7 p.m. to help us, “Rock the Libraries.”
On Thursday, July 26th at
10:30 a.m., “Schoolhouse Rock” will be rocking at the library.
There will be free popcorn and stories, followed by playing with a
mosaic sticker puzzle.
On Wednesday, August 1st
at 3 p.m., the library is privileged to bring the Hampstead Stage
Company to the Grange/Town Hall at 3 p.m. to present “Treasure
Island.” This is a national, educational touring company that
strives to bring the classics to life. This live performance
will be followed by an ice cream social.
August 8th marks the
finale of the Summer Reading Program at the library. The
Fisher Cats mascot will be arriving at 5 p.m., when a scavenger hunt
will commence. This will be followed by the movie, “School of
Rock,” at approximately 6 p.m., during which there will be pizza and
lemonade. The movie is rated as PG 13; therefore, kids must be
accompanied by a parent/caregiver, even though it is also touted as
being suitable for families.
Your Chichester Cemeteries
Cemeteries are the kind
of thing most people don’t even think about until they need one.
Not so the Cemetery Trustees in Chichester. This new group of
volunteers cares about the maintenance and appearance of our
numerous cemeteries and wants to make whatever improvements we can.
To that end, a public
forum was held on May 3rd, where residents shared thoughts and
feelings about how our cemeteries are being managed. One issue
among them – the way many plots are decorated and what is allowable.
In turn, the trustees shared the decades old rules and regulations
regarding what is allowable and what, for safety and appearance, is
not. Please understand these rules are not arbitrary, they
contribute to both the safety of cemetery workers and their
equipment as well as help keep costs down by not requiring they
perform extra work.
On June 7, the trustees
met at Leavitt Cemetery for the first day of cleanup. In
accordance with the rules, items such as dated plastic flowers were
removed, as was some memorabilia. All items worth saving were
gently laid at the post where the Rules and Regs are posted.
(Unfortunately, they were inadvertently thrown out by folks thinking
they were helping clean the area.) Additionally, we will be
placing signs on those graves that are not in compliance asking
folks to clean up as best they can so their sites are in accordance
with the rules.
We understand that
gravesites are lovingly tended - some with small flowers and perhaps
an American flag. But some have many items of memorabilia, or
large shrubs, or flower pots and urns that lie in the path of
mowers. Please acquaint yourself with the do’s and don’ts, and
decorate your loved one’s final resting place accordingly.
We will be organizing a
cleanup day for Pineground Cemetery in the near future. Once
cleanups are complete, the Trustees will be looking at capital
improvements to make our cemeteries as beautiful as they can be.
