Barnstead Fire & Rescue 8:00a-3:00p. Lunch is provided. Students
must be 12years old by the end of the riding season. Parents are

Chichester
Historical Society
The Chichester Historical
Society has received a grant from New Hampshire Humanities to
present “Harnessing History: On the Trail of New Hampshire’s State
Dog, the Chinook.”
This program will be
presented on Monday, November 12th at 7 p.m. in the Chichester
Grange/Town Hall, 54 Main Street. This program, presented by Bob
Cottrell, looks at how dog sledding developed in New Hampshire and
how the Chinook played a major role in this story. Mr. Cottrell
covers the history of Arthur Walden and his Chinooks, the State Dog
of New Hampshire.
This program is free and
open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. For more

The Women’s Club of
OLOL/St.Joseph will be holding their annual Xmas Bazaar on Sat.,
11/3/18, from 9:00-2:00 pm in the parish hall in Northwood, NH.
(Next to Northwood town hall). There will be a white elephant table,
craft items, knitted goods and our cookie walk. We will have a lunch
to enjoy while you shop and new this year, a children’s corner where
they can shop for Xmas gifts and also enjoy making some crafts.

As we head into November, Thanksgiving items are out for your
decorating purposes. Also, my grandson grew and there will be an
assortment of boys clothes - sizes 10-12, including long sleeve,
short sleeve, some shorts for boys that wear them year round, socks
and uw (medium). We also have brand new Louis Vuitton purses!

Chichester Town Library News
The library received a
grant from a family-run business in the past year to upgrade the
children’s area. As reported last week, progress continues
under Lucille Noel’s, Barbara Pappas’s and Library Director
Caroline’s hands. The costs of such a renovation are not
small, even with the grant. To help defray costs, Barbara
Sinclair-Pappas will be holding a fundraiser for the children’s area
and will sell photographs she has taken of “nature in her Chichester
backyard.” There are beautiful cards, 5”x7” framed photos,
etc. 100% of the sales will go towards the re-design and will
be featured upstairs in the library on this Saturday, November 3rd,
coinciding with the Down Under Used Book Sale. There will be a
reception upstairs in the library after 9 a.m. Down Under
patrons will have some great holiday book choices, and even gift
cards, downstairs. The sale starts at 8 a.m. and runs until 1
p.m.
Although the November
book sale is the last scheduled sale of the year, patrons can access
the Down Under used book area after that sale, at the following
times: Tuesdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Fridays from 1:30-4:30
p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.
The Knitting Circle meets
Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
Preschool Story Hour
meets tomorrow at 10:45 a.m.
The Day of the Dead (Día
de los Muertos) celebration will be held this Friday, on November
2nd, at 6 p.m. It will be an intercultural experience to
learn of a holiday of our neighboring country to the South--Mexico.
It is a life-affirming celebration, with lots of colors and joy,
remembering those who have passed on. The movie “Coco” will be
shown and there will be brightly colored and festive sugar skull
cookies, cider and treat bags. It will start at 6 p.m.
The Down Cellar Poets are
changing their meeting date & time to the first Sunday of the month,
from 1:00-3:00 pm at the library. Jimmy Pappas is the
facilitator of this group.
The Board of Trustees has
changed their meeting day in November because of the Veterans’ Day
holiday. They will now meet on Monday, November 5th, at 4 p.m.
This is an open meeting for anyone interested in the administration
of the library.
The Policy Committee of
the library has scheduled their next meeting for November 14th at 4
p.m. This committee is reviewing all the current library
policies and revising/updating them, as necessary. This is
also an open meeting.
“Breaking News From North Pole”
The Chichester Police
Department received a call from the big man in the red coat,
“santa”, and well i guess you would say he is starting early to get
organized for the big day. He has accepted our request to be helpers
to his organization for another year. It’s quite an honor you know
to have Santa call you personally and hire you for the biggest job
of the year.
So... we have
applications for assistance at the Chichester Police Department.
They must be filled out completely so we get our orders correct for
him. They must be turned in to the Chichester Police Department by
December 19, 2018. You must be a Chichester resident. Unfortunately
we have to restrict it to children eighteen and younger. We try to
fill the “needs” category first and then things in the
“want” category. We really have to play by Santa’s rules. Questions:

application for each child and fill it out completely and return to
the Chichester Police Department.
Once again the Chichester
Food Pantry will be handling the food baskets for Christmas, so
please contact the Town Hall.
Letter
To the Voters of Senate
District 17:
In a few weeks, you will
have the opportunity to make important decisions that will impact
the State of New Hampshire for the next two years. There are many
important issues facing the state, but none is more important than
public education.
In a system that bases
much of school funding on an inequitable property tax and makes
local citizens bear the burden of carrying most of the load, it is
important to look at the voting records of legislators on public
education. SB 193, perhaps the most onerous bill on public education
last term, would have siphoned public money to private schools, thus
either raising local property taxes or reducing services in public
schools. That bill, introduced by “The Tax Fighter,” Sen. John
Reagan, was supported by every Republican state representative in
the eleven-town district. That, by the way, is a total of 16 state
representatives.
The only three Democratic
state representatives from District 17 voted against the bill. It
was narrowly defeated, thanks in part to sixteen courageous
Republicans from across the state (none from District 17) who voted
against Gov. Sununu’s and their party’s recommendation.
SB 193 will undoubtedly
be filed again if the Senate and the House have a Republican
majority and Gov. Sununu is re-elected. How do you make sure that
this doesn’t happen? Vote for Molly Kelly, a champion of public
education. Vote for Chris Roundy, Democratic candidate for state
senate in District 17. Vote for your local Democratic candidates for
state representative. You will be casting a vote for strong
supporters of public education and renouncing those who wish to
divert public money to fund private education.
