Have extra time? The Historical Society is looking for new members interested in working on society projects. We have diaries and town records to be transcribed. Special displays always need to be done. A project is waiting for your special talent. The society building is open from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Tuesdays and Fridays. For information, call 798-5709.

 



The Heritage Commission meets on Thursday, August 17th at 7 p.m. in the Chichester Town Library.  All interested community residents are encouraged to attend the meetings.  Call Lucille at 798-5709 for more information.

Congratulations to Abigail Wade of Chichester, who was named to the University of Dallas Honor Roll for the spring 2017 semester for earning a semester GPA of 3.0-3.49. Wade is majoring in Art.

Chichester Town Library News

 

The library trustees, staff, volunteers and library community extend their heartfelt condolences to the family of Lisa Prizio, Chichester Library librarian/director, who died suddenly last week.  She a was an extraordinarily dedicated library director and served with kindness, vitality and capability. She will be greatly missed. We ask for the public’s patience and understanding, as we go through this period of transition.

 

The Summer Reading Program (SRP) is winding down, with booklets due by the August 26th for the prize.  Congratulations to all our readers!

 

The Knitting Circle meets on Wednesday afternoons at 3:30 p.m.

 

LOCL (Lovers of the Local Library) will be meeting on Monday, August 21st.  There will be a lot of planning to do, so it is hoped for full participation.  If you are interested in helping the library, please come to this meeting at 7 p.m.

 

The next basket class is anticipated to be held on Monday, August 21st at 6:00 p.m.  Participants will be working with a purchased kit, which costs $10.  People should come equipped with a pencil, a kitchen shears or pruner, a tape measure or yard stick, clip clothespins, an awl or flat-head screwdriver.  These items can be borrowed, if needed.

 

The vegetable gardens are coming into their own and many are wondering what to do with their extra bounty.    To help answer that question, the library will be supporting a local Farmer’s Market in conjunction with this month’s Down Under Used Book Sale, on Saturday, August 26th.The Farmer’s Market will be open from 9-noon.  Local vendors of vegetables, eggs, herbs, flowers and other products are encouraged to participate.  Please call the library to make arrangements.

If you need extra long twin sheets for a college bed, come see us as we will have 2 sets on Wednesday the 16th.

 

Also, if you need extra sets of dishes, mugs, and/or single plates, we have them.  We have many bed skirts, which make great material for all kinds of projects- 50¢ each!  We have extra walkers, for Free and a wheel chair to loan out as needed.

 

We are collecting veggies and canned food and toiletries for the Chichester Food Pantry.  We are located at 345 Suncook Valley Hgwy (Rte 28) Open Mon 8-12; Tues. & Thurs. 8-4; Wed. 11-4 & Sat. 10-4.  247-7191.  Like us on Facebook!

Nellie R. Mitchell

 

Nellie R. Mitchell, 100, passed away Friday, August 04, 2017, after a brief illness, surrounded by family and her favorite nurse, Elizabeth.

 

Nellie was born August 26, 1916 to William Runnells and Grace (Saturley) Runnells, in Chichester, NH. She lived in Chichester for half her life until she moved to Concord in 1964. Nellie was married to James Mitchell August 26, 1945.  The couple welcomed two children into their home, daughter Mary Jo (Mitchell) Dane and James Mitchell Jr.  They shared a loving marriage until his death on October 16, 1988.  Her children remember her as a person who cherished life and encouraged them to pursue their goals. She started a long-term career with the State of New Hampshire of Employment Security and DRED until her retirement in 1980.

 

Nellie belonged to the Chichester Methodist Church and Chichester Grange since 1932. At the Chichester Methodist Church, her mother Grace Runnells, Sister Mary Quimby, and Aunt Laura Wilcox, were instrumental in the first Baked Bean suppers and continued to contribute for many years. She also belonged to The Gunstock Travelers Camping Club and the Concord Coach Square Dance Club.  Nellie loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. 

 

She was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and The New England Patriots, if there was a game on you could always find her watching it.  She also never hesitated to attended soccer, baseball, basketball, field hockey, and football games that her grand and great grandchildren participated in. Nellie was a great cook.  She had a big heart and loved making her special chocolate cream pie to donate to the Thanksgiving Dinner put on by the Windmill Restaurant.  Her muffins and goodies were also loved by her neighborhood and office staff at her residence, Alton Woods.  Nellie’s greatest love was her family and friends. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.  Her favorite place to visit was Drakes Island Maine.

 

Nellie is preceded in death by her husband, James Mitchell and her sister, Mary Quimby.

 

Nellie is survived by her children, Mary Jo Dane and husband Paul Dane of Indialantic, Florida and James Mitchell Jr. and wife Mary of Liberty, South Carolina; nieces, Nellie (Judy) Sinclair of Epsom and Barbara Sargent of Antrim; grandchildren, Debbi Jenkinson and husband Dennis of Franklin, Richard Sargent Jr. and wife Melissa of Chichester, Donna Jo Cummings and husband Brian of Chichester, Jennifer Perkins and husband Dana of Bow, and Jamie Pratt of Gilford; Great Grandchildren, Sami and Kati Cummings, Ben, Brad, and Brent Sargent, Jon Macneil, Amanda Paz, Mitchell Pratt, and Brady Perkins; great-grandchildren, Clara Puffer, Timothy and Jonathan McNeil, Devin Paz, and Parker Sargent.

 

The funeral service was held Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at the Bennett Funeral Home.  Following the Service there was a funeral procession to the Leavitt Cemetery located in Chichester.

 

In lieu of flowers the family has requested, in Nellie’s memory, to donate to Concord Regional VNA Hospice House for the hospice program, 240 Pleasant St. Concord, NH 03301.
