News
We’ve had a few winter
storms lately, which provides the opportunity to remind everyone
that the Library follows the Chichester Central School in deciding
whether to close for the day, or to have a delayed opening. If
you’re not sure, just call the library.
A reception for the
members of the Photo Group will be held on Saturday, February 18th
from 9:30-11:30 a.m. The exhibit “Photo-cation” is on the walls and
the photographers should be there, as well. Let us celebrate their
great work.
The Library will be open
on Monday, February 20th for the convenience of patrons who have the
day off from work/school.
The Lovers of the
Chichester Library will be meeting on Monday at 7 p.m.
Please see the separate
article on the exciting, upcoming programs by Marina Forbes, an
expert on Russian Arts, History and Culture, on February 24th and
25th.
Chichester Library Offers
Two Events On Russian Arts, History And Culture
The library is excited to
welcome Marina Forbes on February 24th and 25th for two, separate
(but related) events. On the evening of the 24th, at 7 p.m. at the
Grange, Marina will be presenting a program on the Imperial Russian
Faberge´ Eggs. These beautiful eggs originated in Russia, when Tsar
Alexander III commissioned the first one in 1885. The eggs became
more elaborate over the next thirty plus years. The eggs were
crafted of gold and other precious metals and were often bejeweled.
The Imperial Coronation Egg is seen below and is considered the
most famous of all of the Faberge´ eggs.
On the next day,
Saturday, Marina will involve participants in painting wooden eggs
and also in Russian story-telling. Families, teens and children
over six years of age would do well with this program. It will also
be held at the Grange and will be from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Some food
will be provided by the library, considering the length of the
workshop. Word has it that Marina may also be bringing a Samavar
(usually an intricately made metal container in which to boil water
to make tea) and will help us start to learn how to make Russian
pastries.
Marina is being sponsored
by the New Hampshire Humanities Council and the library. There will
be a $10 fee for the Saturday workshop to help defray expenses.
Please call the library at 798-5613 or e-mail
[email protected] to
reserve a spot for the workshop.
