Chichester Town Library News
The last book sale of
2017 is this Saturday, on October 21st, from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.
The theme will focus on the upcoming holidays; although, as usual,
the basement is also full of fiction, non-fiction, mysteries, etc.
Have you noticed the new mini-sections on notable books? It’s
like a friend previewing the donations for the rest of us.
Although patrons can buy books at other times than the book sales,
these sales offer the amenity of people (Lovers of the Chichester
Library) there to help you find that special book or author you may
have been seeking.
The Knitting Circle will
be meeting this afternoon (Wednesday) at 3:30 p.m. It’s not
too late to start that special holiday gift for someone. And
the assistance of those more experienced who come is a special
bonus.
Pre-school Story Hour
meets tomorrow morning (Thursday) at 10:30 a.m. Bring those
young’uns in for a special hour of stories, other activities and
snacks. A parent/caregiver is expected to stay for the
activity.
Thank You
The Chichester Youth
Association (CYA) would like to thank all who supported the CYA’s
16th annual golf tournament. The event was extremely successful

Progress Report On The Chichester Community Greenspace
If you travel Main
Street, you may have noticed the two beautiful stone walls at the
GREENSPACE, located to the right of the Grange/Town Hall parking
lot. This Community GREENSPACE Park has many volunteers (Over

Schroth, Mark Colby and volunteers built the walls. Millican
Wholesale Nurseries, Inc. donated ten evergreen trees. Loam and
hydroseeding was underwritten by the Chichester Town Library Shirley
Waters Fund. Rite Aid of Pittsfield donated water for the
volunteers. A $1500. grant has been received from the Globe
Community Fund of the NH Charitable Foundation to be used toward the
purchase of a gazebo. Two park benches have been restored and are
ready to be put in place in the Spring.
The Community Design
Charrette Team is raising additional funds for the gazebo purchase.
This 16 foot structure is made from CA Natural Select (arsenic free)
pressure treated Southern yellow pine with a cedar shingled roof.
The gazebo will be fully accessible for those with limited
mobility.
Interior benches will
provide seating. The gazebo will be used for a variety of future
events as work continues to create “A Village Center, Again.”

How To Spot And Avoid Phishing Scams
TDS offers customers tips
to avoid being a victim of phishing scams.
Phishing scams are
becoming too common. To protect their accounts, TDS Telecom (TDS®)
encourages customers to learn how to spot (and avoid) phishing
scams. These scams refer to times when criminals lure individuals
into a trap in order to steal money; many of these traps are hidden
in emails, websites or phone calls that appear legitimate.
“Phishing scams are aimed
at stealing consumer’s personal information, including financial
data (e.g., bank account numbers) and online account information
like user IDs and passwords,” said Karl Betz, director of
Infrastructure, Risk Management & Security at TDS. “It’s important
consumers realize what phishing scams look like in order to protect
their identity.”
To avoid being a victim
of phishing scams, TDS offers these tips:
Look at the sender’s
email address. Make sure the email address matches the business that
is supposedly sending the email. If they don’t match, it is most
likely a scam.
Spelling and grammar
mistakes. An easy way to spot a phishing scam is to look for poor
spelling and grammar. If you are receiving an email from a
legitimate company, it’s unlikely you’ll find errors.
Be cautious of links
and/or attachments. If you do not know or trust the sender, do not
click the link or open the attachment. In addition, you can hover
over links in your email to verify the website matches the link. If
the website does not match, there is a chance the link provides
cybercriminals with the ability to hack your computer and personal
information.
Don’t believe the
threats. Cybercriminals often use threats such as “your account will
be closed if you don’t respond.” Legitimate companies will not
threaten to close an account. In addition, legitimate companies,
especially those you do business with, already have your personal
and financial information.
If you have received fake
emails or phone calls, write down the sender or caller’s information
and report it to the FTC website.

Jason Smith Of Chichester Volunteered At 2017 GMA Dove Awards
Cedarville University
student Jason Smith of Chichester, volunteered Oct. 17, at the 48th
Annual Gospel Music Association (GMA) Dove Awards ceremony at
Lipscomb University’s Allen Arena in Nashville.
Smith was among nine
students chosen to serve at the prestigious event. The Dove Awards
started in 1970 to honor the very best of Christian music. The show
celebrates musical diversity, presenting awards to artists
representing modern rock, rap, hip-hop, pop, worship, southern
gospel, urban, bluegrass and country.
Earlier this year,
Cedarville was selected to help with the GMA Academy launch. The GMA
Academy creates networking opportunities between college students
and Christian music professionals by providing job and internship
listings, industry updates, volunteer opportunities and event
invitations. From this connection, GMA asked Dr. Roger O’Neel,
assistant chair and associate professor of worship, if Cedarville
worship students could volunteer at the Dove Awards.
“This is a very unique
opportunity for our students,” said O’Neel. “To participate on a
production of this caliber and scope will allow them to meet
influential people in the music publishing industry, managers and
contemporary Christian music artists themselves. We hope that this
will be educational for the students, as well as beneficial for
Cedarville.”
Students were involved in
setup Monday night and assisted the artists during the awards show
on Tuesday as they attended press conferences, events and moved on
and off stage.
Cedarville University,
located between Dayton and Columbus, Ohio is an accredited,
Christ-centered, Baptist institution with an enrollment of 3,963
undergraduate, graduate, and online students in more than 100 areas
of study.
