Before heading out to do your holiday shopping, please join the Chichester Central School PTO for their annual Santa Breakfast on Saturday December 13th from 8:30 -10:30.  The cost is $4.00 per adult and $2.00 for children under 13.  There will be a parent free zone where kids can make a gift for someone special and a new addition this year will be horse drawn wagon rides from 8:30 -10:00.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Chichester Grange is collecting “Socks for Seniors” between now and December 20. There will be a collection box at the Chichester Town Library, but if you are not around during open library hours you can put socks in the book drop. The goal is to have many pairs of new colorful socks to distribute to older folks, especially those in nursing homes, at Christmas time. Any socks will be welcome, but colorful patterned socks are the goal of the program. Look for stripes or spots or animal patterns – anything bright and cheerful in adult sizes.

Happy Birthday (slightly belated) to Ed Millette on December 8, and Happy Birthday (on time) to Zachary Harris on December 14.

Chichester Grange will meet on Wednesday, December 17, at 7 p.m. upstairs in the Grange Hall.

Chichester Town Library News

The time is now upon us!  The “Winter Party” for the young and the young-at-heart will be held on Friday evening, December 12th from 7-8:30 p.m.  The party includes refreshments, caroling and the big drawing for the raffle of the Samantha Parkington American Girl doll.   The drawing will be at 8 p.m.   A special treat is being prepared for the kids who bring a favorite doll, stuffed animal or other easily carried toy.

This is also a reminder, now that we’ve had our first winter storm, that the Library follows the school closure decision; that is, if the school decides that it is unsafe for transporting the children and closes, then the Library will be closed.

If you didn’t get a chance to stop in for one of the holiday used book sales, please remember that you have access to the “Down Under” section of the Library during regular Library hours.  See Lisa or Kayla for any assistance.  There are still great treasures to find, including patterns for 18” dolls (think American Girl dolls and those of the same size) and for children.

The Down Under used book collection will be undergoing a review and transformation during the winter months.  Volunteers are constantly trying to make this area better for readers/purchasers by updating and arranging the collection.

Don’t forget to save January 11th for a presentation by the Pontine Theatre of “A Winter’s Tale” at the Grange at 1 p.m.

Like us on FaceBook to keep attuned to things going on at the Library.  We have a faithful following who also provide us feedback to help give you the best Library experience we can.

COHD To Hold Public Meeting

Residents are gathering to prepare for next year’s Chichester Old Home Day (COHD) event and encourage public input for its January 2015 planning meeting.  This is a chance for the public to have a say and share comments, suggestions, thoughts and ideas of what they would like to see happen at Old Home Day 2015.  This is your community event - please play a part!

The meeting will be held at the Grange Hall, 54 Main Street, Chichester, 7-8pm, Monday, Dec. 15.  Come sit, chat and enjoy hot apple cider and fresh baklava.

Old home day celebrations started in 1899 by then NH Governor Frank Rollins when he proclaimed “To have a week in summer set apart to be called Old Home Week and make it an annual affair.” Chichester’s first celebration was held August 24, 1901, at the Grange Hall and subsequently moved in 1968 to Carpenter Park on Bear Hill Road and remains there to date.  In addition to location, there have been many other changes, including event length, size, food, themes and activities.  What would you like to see next year?

Help make this a true community event by contributing your thoughts and ideas to this 100+ year tradition, making 2015 Chichester Old Home Day a success!

A Blue Ribbon Thank You

In honor of Chichester Central School students and staff earning the 2014 National Blue Ribbon School Award, we are ordering t-shirts for their accomplishment.  CCS is over 35% of the way towards making our fundraising goal to purchase these shirts.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank NH Strategic Marketing, LLC, Generations Dental Care, P.A., Country Cook’n at the Circle, and LRD Consulting, LLC for their assistance.  Please support these businesses as they have supported us!  There is still time to help; please contact Principal Brian Beaverstock at 798-5651, ext 224 if you or your business can help.

Letter

Selectmen of Chichester,

The Road Agent is elected by the people not the Selectmen. You really don’t want Mr. Plunkett fired because of misunderstandings and personality conflicts as they did in Epsom not too long ago. It’s been told that Chichester does not want to become like Epsom and that You don’t want to make the BAD CHOICES, as Epsom did, that will cost the Town Hundreds of Thousands of dollars. Mr. Plunkett is doing a great job. He’s performing the duties that are required of him and he will continue to do so. Respect the vote of the people.
