Creativity is Intelligence Having Fun!
Chichester Central School PTO will be holding it’s
annual Craft Fair on Saturday November 15th from 9:00am to 2:00pm.
The Craft Fair will take place at the Chichester Central School
located at 219 Main Street. This annual event showcases
a wide variety of goods that include candles, jewelry, garden décor,
local honey, dips and more. 7x7 booth space is offered
for $25.00. If you are a vendor and would like to reserve a space
please contact Kris Losey at
[email protected] or 231-4710.
Chichester Grange will be holding a Penny Sale on Saturday, November
1, in the Grange/Town Hall. Tickets will go on sale at 9 a.m. and
numbers will be drawn starting at 10:30 a.m. Enjoy a little snack
while you wait. A Grange Penny Sale is a cross between a yard sale
and a raffle. You buy a block of tickets for $2.00 and distribute
them into containers located near items you might wish to bring home
if you are lucky. The items are “useful stuff” and many are gently
used. There will be a lot of Christmas themed items, because this is
a good time of year to put them out. The fun comes when the numbers
are drawn and you see who will take home what items.
The Local Planning Team for the Community Design Charrette wishes to
thank all those who donated money, food, services, and time to make
the Plan NH Charrette possible for our community. A special thank
you goes to Distinctive Transportation for providing the trolley for
the Historic Main Street Tour. We also thank the United Methodist
Church for allowing us to use the Parish Hall for meal preparation
and serving over the two-day period of October 17th and 18th.
The “Scouting for Food” drive will be held on Saturday, November
8th. This is the 2nd largest food drive for our community and the
region, so keep your eyes open for the mailbox hangers being
delivered soon. The food that is donated will help to stock food
pantries in the area, including Chichester’s Pantry.
The Chichester Food Pantry is currently accepting applications for
the 2014 Capital Region Food Program Holiday Food Basket Project.
Applications are available at the Town Hall and must be submitted
no later than Wednesday, November 26th to insure availability. Food
baskets will be available for pick up on Monday, December 22nd
between 8:30am and 10am. Each basket contains a Turkey or Chicken
and all the fixin’s for a holiday meal, plus cereals, bread and many
other items. Should you have any questions, please contact Jamie at
(603)798-5350.

Lack of Leadership from a Tax and Spend Liberal
Richard DeBold is a nice guy, has a nice family and served various
roles for 20+ years. He’s a veteran, a retired state employee and
easy to like. Qualities great in a neighbor but they hardly qualify
him for the Legislature.
In 12 years he’s presided over a 44% tax rate increase, he’ll blame
the School but the town’s portion has increased 59%. The budget has
increased 30%, and the amount raised by taxes is up 64%, while our
valuation increased by just 15%. His tax and spend policy has
fostered a 70% increase in our tax bills. Have our roads,
buildings, or services improved enough to justify the increase? How
many more homes need to be sold at tax sale?
As Selectman he appointed a planning board that resists tax positive
business growth. Instead of an inviting business environment our
zoning actively drives business away, resulting in numerous lost
court battles. Businesses don’t want to come to Chichester and this
failure falls squarely at the Selectmen’s feet.
DeBold hired a controversial Fire Chief who was later fired, rehired
in another capacity before successfully suing and settling out of
court for wrongful termination, only to be fired a short time later
for theft. This shows gross lack of leadership and his inability to
make hard decisions.
As Richard moves on from Chichester towards better things, ask
yourself, what’s his legacy? A couple soccer fields, a trail to
nowhere and a 70% increase in our tax bills shouldn’t get your vote.

Letter To The Editor
Dear Editor:
When I represented Chichester in the NH House 1987-1994 and until
this year I was a registered Republican. But part of the Republican
party has become too extreme for me. I am going to vote for
candidates based on what I know of them and of their opponents.
There are at least two Democrats that I will be voting for this year
to represent Chichester in the State House.
Nancy Fraher is running for the NH Senate. She is running against
the incumbent, John Reagan of Deerfield. Nancy is a recently retired
schoolteacher with a daughter who is a freshman at UNH. Nancy has
lived in Chichester for many years and has served on the school
board. Her opponent has supported cutting funding for UNH, opposed
increasing the minimum wage, and opposed providing health insurance
to low income families. I don’t agree with those positions and I
will be voting for Nancy.
Richard DeBold is one of the 3 Democrats and 3 Republicans running
for the NH House of Representatives. He has served as a selectman in
Chichester for many years. I have worked with him on the town’s Road
Advisory Committee and on the Parks and Recreation Commission. He is
thoughtful and dedicated to the town and to public service. I will
be voting for Richard because I know he will consider each issue on
its merits and will ask good questions of those who are advocating
for or against a bill before the House.

Chichester Town Library News
Tonight, the Library is hosting a “Trick and Treat” for our younger
set, from 6-7:30 p.m. Children who come in costume will get both
candy and a free book!
Winners of the recent pumpkin decoration contest are: Wes Eldredge
won in the 5 years of age and under group; Lexy Dolan in the 6-10
year old age group; and, Dylan Millen in the 11 years and up age
group. These winning pumpkins, as well as all of the delightful
submissions decorated the tables at the potluck supper for the
recent Main Street Design Charrette project. Congratulations to the
winners and our appreciation to all of those who submitted their
decorated pumpkins.
Preschool story hour continues every Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m.
Come and join the fun!
The next meeting of the book group will be on Thursday, November 6th
at noon. The book is The Lobster Chronicles: Life on a Very Small
Island, by Linda Greenlaw.
Don’t forget the CPR class scheduled for November 12th at 6:30 at
the Library. This lifesaving procedure will be taught by Matt Cole
and other local firefighters; but, there is only room for twelve
people. The class is limited to adults and teens. If you have
never taken a class or need a refresher class, this is for you.
The raffle for the American Girl doll, Samantha Parkington, has
started and will continue until the drawing on December 12th. This
is a special opportunity for a special gift for that special person,
don’t let it slip by. Please see additional article on this.
The gifts made to the Library in honor of Tina Mobbs are being used
for the construction and installation of a new front door. This
door is sorely needed to help prevent cold air from coming in the
various seams on the present door, as well as providing overall
integrity of the entrance and keeping the historical essence of the
building. Thanks to all who made their remembrances in this way.
For others who would like to honor someone or memorialize them, the
Library offers the opportunity to buy a book in that person’s
honor/memory. And, with the season of gift-giving coming up soon,
this program can be utilized for those who “have everything” or for
whom gift-giving is difficult.
Lovers of the Chichester Library have heard the inquiries of the
supporters of the book sales. Although the organized sales ended
with the last sale, there are two special, pre-holiday sales being
planned. Watch for more information coming on the projected sale
dates of November 22nd and December 6th.
Orders for the calendar compiled by the Chichester Photo Group and
co-sponsored by the Library are being taken at the Library, Town
Office and the school. Proceeds from the $20 cost of the
calendar will be going to the Food Pantry.
Don’t forget to drop into the Library to enjoy the October Art
Exhibit is by one of our younger artists, Rivkah Valley. Her use of
color in her pictures reminds us of the vibrancy of life.
