The Chichester Library will have a book sale on May 11th, 8 to 1, rain or shine.  Adult books are now 50 cents and children and youth books are 25 cents.  Videos, CDs and puzzles are all 25 cents.  Our book store now has a new name – Books Down Under Book Store.  Come and buy a bag of enjoyment.

“Travel Back in Time Along Route 4” is the title of the Historical Society’s program for May 13. This program covers businesses that existed on Route 4 between the Epsom and Pembroke town lines in times past. Old photographs of places such as Hillcrest Cabins, the Beanstalk, Edgerley’s Lunch, and Rodd Lumber will be shown on the screen and the audience is invited to share stories and memories of these places. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. Refreshments will follow. All are welcome.

 


 

Chichester Grange will hold its Annual Awards Night on Wednesday, May 15, at 7 p.m. in the Town/Grange Hall. Each year Chichester Grange recognizes a community citizen, a postal worker, an educator, an outstanding youth, and representatives from the police and fire departments. The public is invited to attend the Awards Night and thank those who serve Chichester and the surrounding communities. Refreshments will be served.

 


 

Come to the Grange Penny Sale on Saturday morning, May 18, 10 a.m. at the Grange/Town Hall. A Penny Sale is a cross between a yard sale and a raffle. A variety of small items will be spread out on tables. Buy a sheet of tickets and put the numbers on items you would like to win. There are door prizes as well. Numbers will be drawn starting at 11:30. Baked goods will be sold for your snacking pleasure while you wait to see what you will bring home. Proceeds will benefit the One Pane at a Time Windows project.

 


 

Out Of Your Attic Thrift Shop News

We want to thank all of the donors of items that have made it possible for us to sell wonderful things at low prices and keep the recycling going.  Thank you also for the hygiene items for the homeless. Thank you also to those who have spread the word about the shop.  We have seen many new faces recently and thank you for putting out a good word.  

 

Mother’s Day is May 12th. We have many items for you to give your Mom, Grandmother, or special lady in your life. We also have a nice collection of tees for Memorial Day.  

 

We will be closed on Mon. May 27th to observe the holiday. 

 

Requests this week include lamps and bowling balls for craft projects. 

 

We are at 345 Suncook Valley Highway, Chichester. We are open Mon. 8-12; Tues. and Thurs. 8-4; Wed. 11-4 and Sat. 10-4. You can call us at 247-7191.

 


 

Chichester Library News

 

The Library book store now has a name, “Books Down Under.” It is open when the library is open.  Hours are: Mon. and Wed. 2:30-8:30; Tues. and Thurs. 10-1:30; Fri. 1:30-4:30 and Sat. 9-12. 

 

You can purchase adult books for 50¢ each and kids books for 25¢ each. There is the “Specials” table,  individually priced, with titles that include: The Bumper Book-1971 Chilton Auto Repair Manual; Children’s Collectibles such as Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys; Milton’s Complete Poems; Shirley Temple Storytime Favorites; Chicken Soup Collection; Daniel Boone; Haunted New England; Art Through the Ages and many more.  Donations are very much appreciated.

 

When you visit, check the new “Buy A Book Program.”  Great idea for a special gift or memorial to go into the Library collection.

 

A Lego Club will start Monday, May 13th 5:00 to 6:30 pm, ages 5-12. The library has a good supply of legos to build with.

 

The May raffle prize is a gorgeous seasonal silk flower arrangement.

 

Our next book sale will be Saturday, May 11th, 8-1, rain or shine, just in time for you to pickup some great reading material or VCR tapes for your Mom, Grandmother, or special lady. Call the library for any additional information  798-5613.

 


 

14th Annual Mother’s Day Breakfast

 

What better way to start Mother’s Day than with a home cooked breakfast buffet prepared and served by your friends and neighbors; the volunteers of the Chichester Fire Department.  Please come on Sunday, May 12th, 2013, 7:30 to 10:30 am at the Chichester Fire Department, 22 Main Street and join us for a delicious buffet breakfast of pancakes, eggs, home fries, bacon, sausage, English muffin, coffee, tea, juice, or milk. The cost of the breakfast is $7.00 for adults and $4.00 for children under 10.  

 

All proceeds/donations to benefit the Chichester Firefighters Association.  Thank-you to all for the continuing support and we hope to see you on Sunday May 12th.

 


 

Chichester Historical Society

 

The Chichester Historical Society will present the program “Travel Back in Time Along Route 4” on Monday, May 13, 2013 at 7 p.m. How many businesses can you recall that existed along the busy Route 4 corridor? Do you remember Hillcrest Motor Lodge, Munch King, The Hitching Post, or Edgerly’s Lunch Room? How about Ken-Bar Country Fare or Rodd Roofing? Join us while we explore, through old photos, this 1st NH Turnpike and some of the businesses that existed along this highway.

 

The program will be held at the Chichester Historical Society Museum located at 49 Main Street. There is plenty of parking across the street. Refreshments will be served after the program with time to reminisce about the past. For information about this program call 798-5709.

 

On June 1st, the Society will hold its 3rd Annual Yard Sale on the museum grounds. Donations are now being accepted. Please call 798-5709 if you need items picked up.
