Chichester Congregational Church “Hope in Christ” invites all the children in Chichester and surrounding communities to join us at SonSurf Beach Bash VBS.  The fun begins July 18 thru July 22 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at 153 Main Street, Chichester, NH 03258.  For more information call 798-4220.

Fifteen members of Chichester Grange and four guests enjoyed good food and a social time at the annual Eat-Out held at Makris Restaurant on July 6. It was good to visit with some members who are unable to make regular meetings. Chichester Grange meets only once a month during the summer. The next meeting will be August 3 at the Grange Hall.

Are you interested in being a youth soccer referee? The CYA is looking for individuals 12 and older who would be interested in taking the referee class. Please contact soccer commissioner Jacqueline Hannah at 961-0017.

Please contact JoAnn Luikmil at 798-5483 if you are willing to bake cookies for the Old Home Day noon meal. If several people would each bring a batch of cookies to Carpenter Park on August 20, she would be all set. Please let her know if you can help.

The Chichester Town Library has again this year purchased the 2011 Great Stone Face and Isinglass Books, which are on the Chichester Central School summer reading list.  The Library also has many of the books on the Pembroke Academy summer reading list.

If you have Yard Sale items to donate, Stacey Luikmil is looking for them to put under the Yard Sale Tent at Old Home Day on August 20. Pick-up can be arranged. Call her at 798-4987.

Out Of Your Attic Thrift Shop News

Several ladies have come into the shop looking for pieces of glassware or china to build “totems.”  I had to ask-what are totems?

They are sculptures you create yourself from odd pieces of glass plates, upside down stemware, odd glass shades, plates, tea cups, ornaments or anything you can glue together.  Then I read an article about a shop that is selling “recycled garden art.”  What totems were in 2009 are now “recycled garden art.”

Good news, you can still make your own, with plates, candle holders, old ashtrays make great bases, any favorite memento (shot glass) and they make great sun catchers in your garden or special section of your lawn.  Our prices start at $.25 and for a few dollars, you create your own recycled garden art.

If you know someone in need of a baby layette bag, just let us know a week ahead and Sylvia can bring one with her on a Friday.

We are open Mon. 8-12, Tues. and Thurs. 8-4, Wed. 11-4 and Fri. and Sat. 10-4.  Remember, we’re in the Blueberry Plaza, painted yellow (have to find out why someday)  Our phone number is 247-7191.

Chichester Library News

Pictured above are our Reading Dogs, Felix and Felecia, with their readers Camryn, Dylan, Trenton and Helah.  Seated behind Felix is the dogs’ owner  Dave Michaud.  To read to the dogs just call the library and we’ll set up an appointment.

On Wed. July 29th at 6:30, Amy Conley will present her family program of songs from around the world on guitar, banjo, and   percussion.   Her repertoire draws on the international songs of her Music Together classes using many rhythms and modes, songs from the folk revival in the 60s (Harry Belafonte, Pete Seeger, Ella Jenkins) and more songs from around the world today.   Drawing young audiences, parents and grandparents into the experience of singing, Conley sends people home with songs in their hearts.  Light refreshments will be served after the performance.  This is for everyone in town.  All are welcome.  Mark your calendar now.

The Young  Writers Group will meet at the Chichester Town Library  on Wed.  July 20th and Wed. August 10th from 5:00 to 6:00.  New members are welcome, you may bring some of your work.

We would like to start an Adult Writers Group as well.  If you’d like to join us please call the library, 798-5613 or stop in and talk to Lisa.

Next week, July 13th Jimmy Pappas will share stories from Greece, Johanna Beachy will tell us about the orphans she met in Africa on a medical missions trip and Kathryn Abdelwahid will talk about Egypt.
