New Hampshire Youth Turkey Weekend
Submitted By Evelyn Pike, Chichester Town Clerk

New Hampshire’s 2010 Youth Turkey Hunt will take place on Saturday and Sunday, May 1-2, 2010.

During 2009 Youth Weekend, young hunters took 570 gobblers.

To participate in the special weekend turkey hunt, youth hunters must be age 15 or younger and must be accompanied by a properly licensed adult age 18 or older. The adult may not carry a firearm or bow and arrow. Youth hunters do not need a Hunting License, but they must have a valid Turkey Permit. Accompanying adults must hold either a current NH Hunting or Archery License and a Turkey Permit.

This special weekend provides youth and mentoring adults a quiet, noncompetitive time in the woods, where they can focus on safety, ethics, hunting methods and natural science. Youth weekend is a great opportunity for an adult and child to spend time together without the stressful distractions of modern life.

In addition to the youth special weekend, youth can hunt during the regular spring gobbler season May 3-31, when accompanied by a properly licensed adult. Hunter Education is not required for youth hunters under the age of 16 but they are strongly encouraged to attend classes.

The Chichester Town Clerk’s Office is an agent for NH Fish and Game and can issue Turkey Permits and Hunting Permits. You do not need to be a Chichester resident. Do you need a boat registered and a Fishing License? Also see the Chichester Town Clerk. 798-5808.

Chichester Town Library

The Chichester Town Library is holding two interesting workshops at the end of the month.

Have you ever wondered what the parts are inside your computer? How do you add memory anyway? And what’s the best way to clean the inside of it. Don’t worry. Tom Downey will explain it all. I hope you can come. The workshop will be at the library on Monday, April 26 at 6:30. This workshop is not for young children. You must be 13 and up.

Do you know what a tetrahedron is?

In geometry, a tetrahedron (plural: tetrahedra) is a polyhedron composed of four triangular faces, three of which meet at each vertex.

The tetrahedron is one kind of pyramid, Chichester has a local resident who is able to create very interesting and amazing sculptures using paper that has been folded into multiple tentrahedra shapes. Blaze Konefal is willing to show you how to do this. If you like oragami you will really enjoy this workshop. If you enjoy math or art or both, you will want to be here. Again, this is not for young children. Anyone over 13 is welcome. Please call ahead, so we’ll have enough material. 798-5613.

Letter to the Editor

Editor:
I am extremely disgusted by the continuing blatant lies put forth by too many politicians, who continue to run their mouths without any regard for the truth. As an example, I offer the Monitor article, “Lynch ‘disgusted’ by new attack ad.”

In the article, both Governor Lynch and his side-boy Buckley take the incredulous stance that Lynch has decreased spending. I guess they can attempt to mislead the citizens by pointing to Lynch’s recent budget cuts (due to his previous huge increases), but they cannot hide from the truth.

I challenge Buckley or Lynch to respond to is the following questions:

1. What was the total State budget when Lynch was elected?
2. What is the total State budget today?
3. What are the total costs that Lynch pushed down to counties or towns during his tenure?
4. What is the percentage of increased spending  (#2 plus #3 divided by #1)?
5. What percentage did the population increase over the same period?

Lynch and Buckley can lie, but they cannot hide from the truth. Factually speaking, if Lynch had not drastically increased the budget during his tenure, there would be no budget crisis, even when considering the recession.

It is time to stop the lies on both sides of the aisle, especially the blatant lies about Lynch’s spending splurges.
