The Holiday Food Basket application forms are
available at the Town Office to be completed no
later than 4 pm on November 22, 2010. Also, as
in the past, there are a few days open to volunteer
to assemble, pack and deliver boxes of food at the
NH National Guard Armory on Pembroke Road in Concord
but you must sign up in advance by completing a
volunteer application form. If there are any
questions feel free to leave a message at the office
for Donna Chagnon.
Another special
day of activity at the Pittsfield Area Senior Center
is planned. On Friday, November 19th,
beginning at 10 am, a craft exhibit will be on
display and there will be a time of “show and tell”
as well. Bring your work to share with others
and if there is something you would like to learn,
speak to Leslie and future activities can be
planned.
Keep the date of December
11th open for a Christmas Concert of special music
to be given that evening at the First Congregational
Church in Pittsfield. Watch the local columns
for weekly updates.

We have several new items at the shop due to an overflow from
the huge Baby Threads yard sale. It was a success and the
volunteers are working hard on the Christmas gift project.
We
have beautiful wine glasses for the holidays; a large assortment
of pictures and wooden frames; old lamps (no shades)
dinnerware; old fireplace screen; good size wall mirror;
baskets; and tins for holiday cookies! Also a nice
assortment of Christmas lights-why pay $5.00 and $10.00 a set
when our prices range from $.50 to $3.00; you can even plug them
in at the shop for a test.
Remember, we are closed
Thanksgiving day. Stop by Tues. & Thurs. 8-4, Wed. 11-4
and Sat. 10-4 at 345 Suncook Valley Hwy, Chichester.

Letter to the Editor:
Thank you to the many Chichester and
Pembroke residents who supported me during the election! I am
humbled and also feel the weight of responsibility, knowing that
many citizens have faith in me to help move New Hampshire
forward.
The introduction to the legislature began last week,
with many meetings and a two-day orientation and a caucus this
week. My first impressions include amazement, resolve, and
some frustration.
I am amazed at the huge number of
representatives that I’ve met and their diversity of experience
and intellect. I am also amazed at the infrastructure that
so efficiently deals with the hundreds of legislators.
My
resolve comes from realizing that there are many agendas, and to
institute forward-thinking long-term solutions, much work must
be done to align a majority. Thankfully, most legislators
I talk to, also feel the need for long-term solutions to correct
short-term thinking, including the huge budget swings of the
last four years.
What is upsetting is coming face-to-face
with what the Monitor now (after the election) trumpets as “a
budget shortfall pegged at between $600 million and $800
million.” Like most, my wife and I work very hard and
ensure that we responsibly live within our means. I am
frustrated that due to the irresponsible spending of the
previous majority, much of 2011 will be spent reacting to the
huge inherited deficit, rather than proactively focusing on
solving long-term problems.
We will be working hard to
resolve this budget mess, and then moving forward toward
long-term solutions. Thanks again for your support, and
stay tuned!
