This is your last minute notice to sign up for participation in Chichester’s Old Home Days Events on August 13, 14, and 15. If you want to be in the Variety Show or the Parade, please call Jaan Luikmil at 798-4987 or 783-6572.

This year a new event has been added to the Old Home Day schedule.  On Friday evening, Aug 14th, beginning at 6:00 PM, teams can participate in a town-wide Scavenger Hunt.  The teams will be provided lists of clues relating to town businesses and landmarks along with items to collect.  They will then travel around Chichester in their vehicles to collect the answers and items within the allotted time. Prizes will be awarded to the highest scoring teams.

As an incentive to increase participation in the Old Home Day Parade on August 15, money has been donated for cash prizes for floats and antique/classic cars, which place lst, 2nd, and 3rd in the judging. The top float could win $100 and the top car $50. It’s not too late to put together a float on the theme of “Let Us Entertain You.” Call Jaan at 783-6572 to sign up for the parade.

There is room for more entries in the pie baking contest on Old Home Day, August 15. Bring your homemade pie to Carpenter Park between 8:30 and 9 a.m. Pies will be judged before 10 a.m. and the results announced when the parade reaches the park. For further information call Carol Frekey-Harkness at 798-5443.

Set aside the time to attend the Old Home Day Variety Show on Thursday, August 13, at the Congregational Church’s new building from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Admission is free, but bring an item for the Chichester Food Pantry. The Cub Scouts will be selling drinks and snacks at intermission.

The Flea Market Tent at Old Home Day will be more fun and produce more revenue for Old Home Day 2010 if there are plenty of items to buy. Do you have clean, usable items to donate? Anything from furniture to knick-knacks is welcome. Call Jaan or Stacy at 798-4987 or 783-6572 to have your items picked up.

Some audio books have been recently added to the shelves at the Chichester Library. The titles are: Bad Business by Robert B. Parker, A Beautiful Mind by Sylvia Nasar, Cross by James Patterson, The Killing Moon by Chuck Hogan, The Third Translation by Matt Bondurant, The Hoax by Clifford Irving, and Wild Justice by Phillip Margolin.

Out Of Your Attic Thrift Shop News
By Ruthi True
Shop Smart

I’m sure there are a lot of you who struggle, pay check to pay check. Sometimes it hard to squeeze school clothing from that tight budget. School will be starting sooner than you think. Why make clothing for the kids put you more into debt? Why not start now? While you’re at it, why not try a thrift shop to save you money? Everything will be new to your child even if it isn’t all brand new. Young children will be so happy with different clothing , they might not even know where it came from anyhow.

It’s not a special, but it’s an everyday happening that you can fill a grocery bag for just $2.00 at OUT OF YOUR ATTIC all year long. We also have daily specials every day that we are open rain or shine. We will be having our 13 gallon bag $5.00 special, as well in August for BACK TO SCHOOL and it will be for rooms #2 and #3. If you shop with us regularly you know there is good stuff in there.

With the economy like it is, isn’t it more important to save cash now? At thrift shops you can save on shoes, clothing, and tons of other items, back to college dorm things, pans, utensils,  sheets, lamps, blankets, etc. Use cash where things are less expensive and the credit card interest won’t pile up.

We need good pots and pans, and dish sets, for kids going back to college, as we usually get lots of kids in looking for these types of items.

We are collecting for our back packs at the present time and are trying to outdo last year’s amount given out.

Wish list:
1) High chair for Epsom Lady.
2) Baby gates needed for Pittsfield lady for grandchild.
3) Ossipee women looking for Echo book by Danielle Steele.

We have folks coming to shop from all over and we try to keep them all happy at low prices.
