Happy Birthday to Allyson Brudniak on January 6.

The Chichester Youth Association will be meeting on Jan 11, 2009, at 6:00 p.m. in the Selectman’s Conference Room at the Town Hall. This meeting is open to all Chichester residents.

Chichester Grange meets only once during the month of January. This year the meeting will be on Wednesday, January 21, and will begin with a Soup Supper at 6 p.m.

A good plan for young people this time of year is to be outside until the winter clothes are soaked and then come inside and read while they dry. The Chichester Town Library has added the following titles to the shelves in the Children’s Section: Winnie The Pooh’s Christmas Stories, Snowmen At Night by Caralyn Buehner, Just As Well, Really by Jillian Harker, Arthur Meets The President by Marc Brown, and Alvah And Arvilla by Mary Lyn Ray.

SAU #53 Child Screening

The SAU #53 School District(s) (Allenstown, Pembroke, Chichester, Deerfield, and Epsom) will be sponsoring a Preschool Child Screening for children living in the SAU #53 District on January 15, 2009, (snow date, January 20), at the Allenstown Elementary School. The Preschool Child Screening is designed to locate children, 3 to six years of age, who have special needs that may require special attention. Professionals will screen overall development in motor, cognitive and language skills. Parents who would like their child to be screened, please call Christine Howe at 485-4474, ext. 243 for an appointment.

Chichester Historical Society

How can rural character be preserved? What does community character mean to you? Maggie Stier from the NH Preservation Alliance and Nadine Peterson from the NH Division of Historical Resources, will be presenting a program that explains the benefits of preserving historic buildings and old barns, what strategies are commonly used, and how such efforts can bring both economic and social benefits to our community.

Discussion will include regulatory and voluntary tools such as Heritage Commissions and Historic Districts as well as various funding opportunities for the reuse and repurposing of historic buildings. If you are interested in exploring ways to conserve the past, as well as plan for the future of our historic buildings and sites, please attend this program on Thursday, January 8th at 7 p.m. The program will be held at the Town Hall, 54 Main Street.

This program is jointly presented  by the Chichester Historical Society and “Chichester - A 20/20 Vision.”

All members of the Community are encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be served. For more information, please call  Lucille Noel, 798-5709; Richard Pratt, 798-3151; or Jamie Pike, 798-5350.

Out Of Your Attic Thrift Shop News

Living On A Budget Helps

By Ruthi True
Living on a budget really does help, there are towns where older folks could not survive without lots of cutbacks in how we live. The first thing people need to do is to live within their means. Some people (friends of mine) will not shop at a  thrift shop as they think it is degrading. Well, when the less proud folks come in and buy clothes with tags still on them they leave feeling pretty smart. I guess if you feel better spending more and getting less, that’s the first problem.

We had about 5 new gowns come in on Thursday and they had price tags from $150 and up on them . We have them priced very reasonable for the girl or women who plans ahead for the occasion!!

We feel very happy to be able to provide a service with such low prices to any one who wants to shop with us. We can provide less expensive clothing because of all you folks who give so freely what you no longer need. Also we are happy to be able to donate to many homeless and needy families who live locally as well as other surrounding towns.

A lot of the folks who donate to us say that they donate because we take care of the people and not just hand money out to places. We have to know there is a real need and when there is we come through. We will continue as long as we have the local support. We are seeing much more need in the local communities this year and money or gift card donations help us. If you get a gift card you don’t need or won’t use, give it to a local charity you believe in even if it’s not us as it may help a homeless person get food or clothing etc. Gift cards are always good for  helping teens with our Christmas projects. We do projects all year long and not just at Christmas.

Remember, we are closed from now until we REOPEN ON Jan. 6th and we’ll be having lots of specials like always when we open. Can’t wait to get back, but our volunteers needed to get ready for their Christmas as they have been busy planning a lot of other people’s Christmas so they would get one.

Wish list:
1) Lady needing size 2X scrubs.
2) Food grain mill wanted by lady.
3) Gentleman wanting small tools (we always have request for small tools but get very few).

Last but not least, “Don’t worry about tomorrow after all isn’t today the tomorrow you worried about yesterday??”

Happy New Year Everyone.
