When we
have 3 inches of snow or more predicted, The Epsom/Chichester Lions
will need to move the can trailer from the Chichester Fire Station
for the winter. Please empty all of your collected cans into the
trailer as soon as possible. We will return the trailer in the
spring. Thank you for your generosity!!
The Chichester Food Pantry would like to thank Chichester Grange for
their generous donation of food, laundry and hygiene items.
Happy Birthday on December 24 to Richard Millette and Jordan
Davison.
The new year will soon be upon us. If you would like to list a
birthday or anniversary in this column, please contact Hannah West
at 798-5783 or e-mail
[email protected]. If you sent in a birthday in 2008, it will
remain on the list for 2009 unless you specifically cancel it.

Christmas is Almost Here
Well our hard work all year is paying off big time right now. We are
doing more this year then ever before for folks. This is all made
possible by great volunteers, great donations, and dedicated folks
who help us each month with a check etc. Thanks to all the people
who trust us to get the job done. The exciting rush of the holiday
has been on us and we have been working right out straight. We will
be making a lot of seniors, children and families happy for the
holidays. Some of these folks would have had nothing had it not been
for all of us pulling together and we give you all a big thank you.
In a
future write up I will tell you how many folks we did help, as soon
as we get all the figures and deliveries figured out.. Too early to
tell yet as we get last minute needs even on Christmas eve! Our
elves are always ready if we have any supplies left. This is the
time of year when we can really use the gift cards and cash
donations as the last minute requests are harder to fill especially
for new clothing sizes, etc. Teens like to pick out their own stuff
with gift cards, etc. We have done stockings, we have done baskets,
we have done presents from infant to nursing homes and full families
who otherwise would have not had Christmas.
Thanks to everyone who has come through for us. Maybe next year your
business would like to help us as we may have actually helped
someone you know.
Keep this information:
We Are Closed For The Holiday From Dec. 23 until Jan. 6, 2009. This
is so that the volunteers can go visit their families out of town,
etc. Have a safe and happy holiday .
In Event of a fire or Emergency only, Ruthi can be reached at home
for assistance. Thank you for understanding our needing time off.
Save all of your Christmas castoffs for us for when we come back, as
we’ll be starting to save for Christmas projects the day we come
back.
Chichester Grange Presents Dictionaries
Chichester Grangers Hannah West and Carolee Davison have been very
busy lately, presenting dictionaries to third graders in four local
schools. The Granges in New Hampshire are proud to be part of The
Dictionary Project, a nationwide program based in Charleston, South
Carolina, whose goal is to present a personal dictionary to each
third grade student in the United States. The New Hampshire Granges
have covered two-thirds of the third graders in the state for a
number of years, and this year in special recognition of their
efforts The Dictionary Project is donating enough dictionaries to
provide for the remaining students, so that every third grader in
the state will have a dictionary.
Chichester Grange with financial help from local sponsors has been
part of The Dictionary Project for several years. In Chichester the
dictionaries are paid for by the Ladies Benevolent Society. Eames
Insurance and Real Estate Agency sponsors Epsom’s third graders. The
Pittsfield dictionaries are bought by Northway Bank. Barnstead is
sponsored by the Meredith Village Savings Bank, which buys
dictionaries for the third graders in all the towns where their
banks are located.
The sturdy paperback dictionaries are the property of the student,
not the school, and can be used in school or at home for many years.
The easy to read print makes the dictionary easy to use, and an
extensive reference section at the back means the dictionary is much
more than just an aid to correct spelling. There are maps, facts
about states and countries, and a few things that are just for
curiosity. If you know a third grader, ask him/her to show you the
longest word in the English language. You will be amazed.
