Congressional Candidate Levi Sanders To Speak In Barnstead

Two
speakers headline May’s meeting of the Tri-Town Democrats—
Congressional District 1 candidate Levi Sanders and NH
Representative Edie DesMarais. All local Democrats and left-leaning
Independents are invited to attend this continuing series of
meetings focusing on November’s mid-term elections.
Sanders
has spent the bulk of his career working as a Social Security
benefits specialist and has worked as a part-time senior paralegal
for a legal service program in the Boston area. Levi advocates
for Medicare-for-all, tuition-free public college, equal pay for
women, raising the minimum wage to $15, sensible gun laws, and
addressing the opiod epidemic.
NH
Representative Edie DesMarais, recent special election winner in
Wolfeboro, will join the group to talk about her success story and
how it can shape the Tri-Town Democrats’ candidate strategy going
forward.
The
guest speakers will be followed by actions items and community
organizing. These monthly meetings give you the opportunity to learn
about local and state political issues and how you can participate
in making a difference. You will share the evening with
like-minded individuals and have the chance to express your opinions
and experiences.
The May
meeting of the Tri-Town Democrats on Monday May 7th at 6:30 pm will
be held at the Barnstead Town Hall at 108 South Barnstead Road in
Barnstead. Come for socializing and potluck any time between
6:15 pm and 6:30 pm.
This
meeting is open to all residents of Alton, Barnstead, and Gilmanton
who consider themselves moderate, liberal, or progressive Democrats
or like-minded Independents. Potluck items to share are encouraged

“Boxes Boxes All Over The Floor, Recycling Shouldn’t Be A Chore”
The
staff at BCEP is frequently asked - Are pizza boxes recyclable?
Yes and No. CLEAN of leftover food particles and not soaked with
grease, pizza boxes are very recyclable.
DIRTY
pizza boxes are bad for recycling. Because paper doesn’t get heated
during its recycling process, grease and oil combine with the pulp,
which can ruin the batch. Bales of cardboard and paper waiting
to be shipped to the mill or waiting to be processed once at the
mill, can sit in storage for weeks, where food particles and grease
turn rancid, and attract insects or animals. Once the paper or
cardboard is cleaned with soapy water and sometimes chemicals to
remove inks and glue it is mixed with clean water to create
“slurry”. Once in the slurry, the remaining oil floats to the top.
It becomes impossible to separate the oil from the paper fibers at
this point.
When in
doubt, cut off the clean tops of your pizza boxes, if it’s a
paperboard box recycle the tops in mixed paper. If it is a
“rippled” or corrugated box, recycle the clean tops in the
cardboard. Always discard all soiled bottoms in the trash.
PLEASE
empty all Styrofoam and plastic wrapping from your cardboard boxes
and flatten them BEFORE disposing in the cardboard bunker.
Food waste, hygiene products, and DIAPERS belong in the trash NOT
left in your cardboard boxes or the mixed paper. Please take note,
the new product “Kitty Poo Club” is not a recyclable product, PLEASE
DISPOSE OF THESE IN THE TRASH. The staff at BCEP greatly

Annual Prom Makeover Event!
Want to
look fabulous for prom on Saturday, May 12th? Sign up to have your
hair and makeup done free at the library, starting at 10am. Bring
along a picture of how you would like your hair and makeup to look
(or ask for recommendations from our prom stylists!) You can also
bring your dress (or a picture of your dress) for reference.
What
you will need:
• Bring
along the makeup you would like us to use for your makeover. We will
have some basics available here, but it’s best to have your own
mascara, foundation/concealer and anything special you would like us
to use.
• Any
decorative headband/hair accessories you want us to include in your
style.
• Wear
a shirt or dress that unbuttons so you don’t mess up your hair when
you change into your dress.

Belknap County Democrats Congressional District 1 Candidate Forum
On
Thursday, May 3, the Belknap County Democrats will present a round
table forum with all 8 Democratic candidates for NH Congressional
District 1, the seat currently held by Carol Shea-Porter. This
fast-paced forum, which will have a speed dating format, will take
place at the NH Veterans Home at 139 Winter St. Tilton, from 6:30 pm
to 8:30 pm. Doors will open at 6, and child care will be
available. There will be 8 tables for the public, with the
candidates rotating between the tables to allow voters to ask
questions of each.
The
candidates are: Mark MacKenzie (former Manchester firefighter,
former NH AFL-CIO President, currently a NH State Representative
from Hillsborough); Deaglan McEachern (Portsmouth businessman now
working in the technology sector, co-founder of NH for Amazon);
Mindi Messmer (a scientist with her own environmental consulting
firm, currently a NH State Representative from Rye); Terence
O’Rourke (Rochester City Attorney, Bronze Star Iraq veteran, former
prosecutor in Rockingham and Carroll counties); Chris Pappas (owner
and manager of a restaurant in Manchester, former NH State
Representative (2 terms), currently on the NH Executive Council);
Levi Sanders (legal services analyst and Social Security disability
insurance specialist); Lincoln Soldati (former Stafford County
Attorney, former mayor of Somersworth, Army veteran); and Maura
Sullivan (US Marine Corps Iraq veteran, former Assistant US
Secretary of Veterans Affairs).
The
public is invited to meet the candidates and join the Belknap County
Democrats at this round table discussion.
