Letter To
The Editor
Saturday
June 7 2014, Pittsfield, NH - Hundreds of travelers were delayed and 3
cars were wrecked today as a parade of more than 150 jeeps passed
through town just before noon.
The group
was driving north on Route 28. As they reached the intersection of
Route 107 the lead vehicle pulled across the highway blocking the
southbound lanes. For more than 15 minutes various models of Jeeps
ignored traffic lights, horns, and angry motorists as they turned left
on Route 107.
When it
seemed that the flow of Jeeps had ended the blocking vehicle moved away
and the waiting cars began to move through the intersection. At this
point another 20 or so Late Jeeps appeared and went through the
intersection ignoring the southbound traffic. This caused 3 cars to
collide as they avoided the Jeeps. None of the Jeeps stopped to render
assistance.
Police
called to the scene stated that they were aware that the Jeeps would be
passing through, but that they were not authorized to stop traffic.
Police also
stated that they were unable to pursue the Jeeps due to lack of
personnel.

Letter To

Dear
Editor,
This time
of the year is very special in New Hampshire. Farms are in full swing,
raising vegetables and meat proteins for your edible pleasure. Local
artisan cheese makers, New Hampshire micro-breweries and wineries have
been very busy as well. The choices you have before you this season are
incredible!
Please take
the opportunity this year to plan a few meals each week using only local
ingredients. Visit your local farms, farmer’s markets and co-ops and see
what they have. Bring your family and friends with you to discover what
is currently available. Plan meals and friendly gatherings around what
is available locally. Share these quality products will all whom you
love.
The family
farms of New Hampshire work long days to bring us some of the best
products you could enjoy. They rely on our support to continue
operating. So, what do you say?
Please
support local.
Sincerely,
Don Walker

Summer Concert Series Gets Underway
Perhaps
you’re new to town, or maybe you’ve just never gotten around to joining
us for a show. This year we’re happy to offer an exciting lineup
featuring many different genres of music from new country to good ‘ol
honky tonk, rock ‘n roll, blues, bluegrass, southern rock, oldies from
the 50s and 60s, as well as a special performance just for the kids.
No matter what the show, the atmosphere at the Summer Concert Series is
truly family friendly, and it’s a great opportunity to catch up with
your neighbors. Folks bring their lawn chairs or spread out on blankets
and share snacks sold by local churches and community groups. Kids toss
Frisbees, kick balls, play tag and hula hoop. Did we mention it’s free?
Each week on line and in the local papers we’ll share a bit about the
featured band and let you know who will be offering concessions. The
Selectmen have arranged for a fireworks display following the final show
of the season on August 30. We invite you to come on down and
experience the fun for yourself. Bring a friend or neighbor or two or
three. There’s plenty of room for all. Hope to see you there!
Kicking off
the series on June 21, the Country Felix Band brings us its old school
country sound. The band is described as New England’s best honky tonk,
all twang and no apologies! Their performance with us closes out Bike
Week, on the heels of two other appearances in the Lakes Region. Please
join us in welcoming the Country Felix Band to the Barnstead stage!
