Dear
Friends and Neighbors,
As a long
time resident of Barnstead and an active and involved member of the
community, I have put my name on the ballot as a candidate for our
Town’s Planning Board.
As a person
with a great appreciation for the outdoors I have called Barnstead my
home for 25 years and raised my family here. I understand
and appreciate the rural character and nature of our Town and the
community.
Last June,
I was asked to consider serving as an alternate member to the Planning
Board. I saw this as a chance to be an understudy and see what it is
all about. After several months of attending meetings I accepted this
invitation and was formally sworn in. Since that time, I have found that
my background and experience allows me to contribute to our Town’s
Planning Board and I would like to continue doing so.
My
understanding of the importance of the role of a Planning Board in our
community is enhanced by my 22 years of professional practice as an
architect in New Hampshire. I also bring a long standing
concern for the built environment of NH which is evident through my
volunteer work with Plan NH, as a participant in Planning Charrettes for
several NH communities, including Barnstead!
I’d
appreciate your vote on March 11th for Planning Board Member, 3 year
term.
Thank you,
Karen L.

Barnstead
residents:
My name is
Jim Doucette, candidate for Road Agent in Barnstead.
My wife
Beth, has worked at the Barnstead Country store for 19 years. We have
been married for 38 years, with 4 children and 6 grandchildren.
I have been
at the highway department nearly 14 years, operating the grader for most
of this time. I have been the foreman.
I am
currently acting Road Agent and have been appointed as such in the past.
I feel the
highway department needs a different approach, more on road maintenance,
and not big projects which involve a half mile to one mile of road per
year. Consequently, the rest of our roads are not maintained as they
should be.
I will
truly be a working Road Agent, continuing to run the grader using it not
to just scuff over the gravel roads, as in the past, but the crew and
myself will be ditching, widening and adding gravel to our DIRT roads.
The wheeled
excavator will be ditching the sides and replacing culverts on our paved
roads. My goal is to have the prep work one year ahead of scheduled
repaving.
I will
retain my plow route, which has not been done by a Road Agent in many
years. This eliminates the need to hire an extra person to plow. In
fourteen winters I have never missed a winter storm, and don’t intend to
start.
To find out
more, I will post detailed plans on my facebook. (Jim Doucette 1956)
I hope to
be considered as your next elected Road Agent.
Sincerely,
Jim
Doucette

U.S.
Senate Candidate Jim Rubens To Address
Belknap County Republican Committee On
Wednesday March 12
The next
monthly meeting of the Belknap County Republican Committee will be held
on Wednesday March 12 at 6:30 pm at the Top of the Town Restaurant, 88
Ladd Hill Rd in Belmont.
This
month’s guest speaker is former State Senator Jim Rubens. Jim announced
last September that he would be challenging current U.S. Senator Jeanne
Shaheen in the November 2014 election. However, to do so, Jim will have
to prevail in a primary against a number of other Republican U.S. Senate
candidates. Rubens will share his reasons for choosing to run, discuss
where he stands on the issues, and explain why he feels he’s the
candidate who can best represent New Hampshire in Washington, D.C.
Belknap
County GOP meetings are open to ALL Republicans and like-minded
independents. Per their usual meeting format, if you’re interested in
having dinner (at your option) and/or wish to socialize before the
meeting, plan to arrive as early as 5:00 pm.
The
Committee is stepping up its request for food pantry donations. With
the winter cold continuing to be a burden for many, the Committee once
again reminds everyone planning to attend to bring non-perishable food
items to the meeting for distribution to local food pantries.
