Carol Karsten Of Hidden Hill Alpacas To Teach At

Barnstead Artisan (Community) Market

Carol Karsten of Antrim, NH will be facilitating spinning classes during the month of March.  Each Saturday from 12 to 4 in the month of March, 3 people each weekend, will have the opportunity to learn how to spin from Carol. Carol will also be demonstrating on her spinning wheel and rug peg loom February 16, 2013 and February 24, 2013.  This is a unique opportunity to see the product that the loom makes. Carol also has a modified spinning wheel, which takes very little effort to work and this will be available during lessons.

Carol lives in Antrim, NH with her father and two brothers. Together they have a herd of approximately 135 alpacas, a few llamas, dogs, chickens and a gaggle of geese. Whew!  Carol has been in the alpaca business for approximately 15 years and has been very busy learning and teaching folks about fiber arts.

Carol’s mission is to educate people on the uses of alpaca fiber.  She is very active in the entire production cycle of fiber, and specializes in a very bulky yarn. The bulky yarn is made of alpaca thirds (least desirable) fiber, this yarn when used on the loom produces a very nice rug that is nearly a half inch thick after production; use will naturally felt it and it will be extremely durable.   Having the ability to dye the yarn allows for a creative canvas for those seeking an artistic outlet.

So please stop by the Barnstead Artisan (Community) Market, see the demonstration, feel the fiber and perhaps sign up to take a class! We are so looking forward to seeing everyone this coming year.

Formerly known as The Barnstead Community Market, The Barnstead Artisan Market is the same friendly little store with a modified name.  Store hours for the coming year will be Friday 1 pm to 7 pm, Saturday 9 am to 4 pm, and Sunday 12 pm to 4 am. Please stop by and say hello.
