Community Market Has Local
Goat’s Milk Soap Maker Join The Co-Op
Mountain View Farm had its beginning as Mountain View Equestrian Center;
the joint venture of mother and daughter, Anna and Sarah Williams. The
focus was on horse training and boarding and giving riding lessons. The
farm expanded to include chickens and ducks. Sarah then convinced Anna
to get two pet goats. They started doing research on different breeds of
goats and the benefits of goat’s milk. This led to the start of their
Saanen goat herd.
About a year ago, Anna started making goat milk
soap and hand cream. She experimented with a number of recipes and
different ingredients until she was satisfied that she had quality
products.
Because there are so many people with allergies, her soaps
are unscented. The soaps range from small bars to guest soaps and
whimsical animal shapes. Having spent most of her career in the
education field, her favorite soap is the apple shaped soap.
Sarah
and Anna are trying to find grant money to expand their business.
They would like to invest in some commercial size equipment, expand
their advertising, and establish an internet presence. They have been
nominated for a small grant through Intuit. They need people to vote for
them by September 15 at http://bit.ly/PwEXMw.
This is a great way to support a local farm.
Anna’s soaps and hand
cream can be purchased at the Barnstead Community Market, located at 13A
Parade Road in Barnstead. The market is open Fridays 1-7 pm,
Saturday 9 am – 4 pm, and Sunday 12 – 4 pm.

Here
in New Hampshire, local elections will decide if we will continue on the
path to correct the budgetary and regulatory woes that have plagued
small farms, small businesses and working families throughout the state.
It is vital that we elect people of courage and conviction to stand up
to those that would tax and spend us into bankruptcy. One candidate who
has displayed the needed attributes is Representative Guy Comtois of
Barnstead.
I came to know Guy through the last election. Working with
him on the campaign trail, he displayed a willingness to work hard and
to stand for what was right.
I also saw the concern he had for the
debt being left to the children of our state. This is truly a candidate
that cares about the future.
One of the many qualities that Guy has
exhibited is leadership. As the primary sponsor of HB 1402,
Representative Comtois worked with legislators on both sides of the
aisle, and garnered unanimous bi-partisan support in both the New
Hampshire House and Senate.
Governor Lynch signed this bill into law
shortly after it passed. This single piece of legislation alleviated
some of the regulatory and financial burdens on micro-farms and small
home businesses around the state. It opened up the market so the
consumer could have a choice on buying local healthy products for their
families. This also creates an option for beginning farmers to increase
business and run a profitable farm and preserve open space.
It is
precisely for his strength of character, deeply held convictions, and
demonstrated abilities, that I am compelled to give my unequivocal
support to Representative Comtois in the September 11th primary.
If you find that these qualities should be the measure of a good
candidate, then may I recommend that you re-elect Representative Guy
Comtois to a second term. You simply could not do any better.

My
daughter has recently started attending first grade at Barnstead
Elementary. She is incredibly excited to start the new school year. My
wife and I are very happy to have her in the school system, and applaud
the efforts of the teacher and staff as they try to educate our
children. We both understand the difficulty of educating our youth, and
put a high value on education.
However, both my wife and I are
extremely concerned on the dietary restrictions that are put onto our
children in the name of health. We find it extremely ironic that we are
not able to give our children juice, but they are able to buy chocolate
milk at the same time. The menu also consists of unhealthy choices such
as hot dogs, cheeseburgers, and pizza, yet we are not allowed the
prerogative of giving our children a cookie or another treat.
I
understand the need to keep candy, soda, and peanuts out of our
classrooms, yet these restrictions seem to have gone to an extreme. We
are not able to make the same choices that our parents had when we were
sent to school. We, both the parents and the school district, are
allowed to feed our children the most deplorable food, yet we are not
allowed to send our children in with juice or other alternatives. It is
an insult to parents that we are not allowed to raise our children the
way we see fit because it does not agree with the school’s philosophy.
Please reconsider this policy. It is not keeping within the rights of
parents to restrict these food items, and as it does not impede the
safety of others, it should not be a choice of the school district to
make.
Sincerely,
Scot Wilson

Well, folks it’s
that time again to vote! It’s one of our most basic and important
rights. I only endorsed a candidate several years ago when I was one of
your sitting Selectmen and Welfare Officer.
At this time with great
respect and admiration for a great job as one of our district reps, I
endorse Guy Comtois! Now, because of re-districting, he will be the only
Republican Representative for Barnstead.
Guy Comtois is my man and
should be yours. He’s totally up front, above board and honest. I’m
sorry I don’t think I can say that for his opponent.
Guy is a life
long resident of New Hampshire and moved from Pelham to Barnstead in
1998. He, along with his wife Barbara and sons Jon-luc and Travis are
the proud owners of ‘Sticks & Stones’ farm on White Oaks Rd. He will
always be available at 776-8989. He is here for us, small businesses,
helping farmers survive, and encouraging new ones.
His voting record
has been totally for us. For example he fought hard to keep at the
county level, to keep spending level, and when they came back last July
he was the only one to vote No! There was HB1402, which he sponsored.
His opponent, well you figure it out. He wants to stop the overlapping
of departments which effect our taxes.
His farm is mostly hydroponic
farming, which he designed and developed (patent pending), while working
the farm along with his family he also is a Stone Craftsman making
things such as water fountains, clocks, and coasters to name a
few.
Finally he wrote an amendment to HB 1402, basically to allow
homestead farm operations, selling less than $10,000 gross annually, to
be exempt from licensure under this subdivision. He doesn’t benefit at
all from this bill.
So on voting day, vote for Guy Comtois! You will
have made the right and only clear vote for our town.

I am
running for a third term in the New Hampshire State Legislature. In
social issues, I am personally and religiously very conservative, but as
a public representative, I consistently support the right of people to
choose their own path even if I believe these wrong personal decisions
may cause them and society pain in the future. This past
term I have stood up against efforts to radically change many of the
basic foundations of the healthy systems of laws, developed over the
years, which have made New Hampshire one of the best and balanced states
in the Union in the area of low taxes, personal freedom, employment, low
crime rate, education and compassion for our neighbors, who are elderly,
disabled or poor. I will continue to seek the efficient use of tax
dollars and encourage private/public partnerships that can achieve our
common goals without picking winners and losers.
In my 45 year career
as pastor of medium sized churches, I have been a very fiscally
responsible manger of other people’s money, while creatively advancing
the growth and health of the organization. This mind-set has continued
since I entered the political arena as selectman and legislator. I
have sought to achieve productive results with limited government funds
combined with volunteer involvement and private sector contribution.
In general, I believe that government should create or respond to
opportunities where an environment can be created where non-profits and
private individuals can work together to improve and support a vital,
healthy community.
If you want a legislator who seeks to address the
complex issues before us with respect and honest dialogue, I would
appreciate your vote for the Republican Nomination as Representative of
Belknap District #8 (Alton, Barnstead and Gilmanton) on Tuesday,
September 11.
Rep. Peter Bolster
Letter To The Editor
Boy,
when I learned back in 2010 Dick Green publicly endorsed the Democrat
candidate for governor, John Lynch, I knew I would not be able to trust
him as the Republican candidate for Senate District 6 (Alton, Barnstead,
Farmington, Gilmanton, New Durham, and Rochester). What kind of person
claims to be a Republican, but turns around and betrays his party for
someone who was responsible for increasing state spending by 24% in just
four years just because he had a personal grudge with the Republican
candidate?
How can anyone vote for a guy who supported a governor who
signed the anti-business LLC tax into law or who for his entire time as
governor couldn’t come up with a solution to fix our education funding
problem? Can we really trust Dick Green if he lets his personal feelings
get in the way with doing what’s right for his constituents?
I’m
voting for Sam Cataldo because Sam is a person who has an excellent
history of keeping his word and working for NH’s working class families.
I know I can count on Sam to do what is right for his constituents and
not for himself. Please join me in voting for Sam Cataldo on Tuesday
September 11, 2012!

Letter To
The Editor
To the voters in Alton, Barnstead and Gilmanton:
Due to the new 10 year state representative redistricting plan, there is
a new Belknap County District 8, which includes the three towns named
above. District 5, Alton and Gilmanton, will share two
representatives, and one in District 8.
Peter Bolster is a candidate
for District 8, and has my full support. I have worked with Peter
for the last four years as members of the Resources, Recreation and
Development Committee, and have found him to be a very capable and
productive member. He has sponsored many good, comprehensive bills; most
notably one which would place some very stringent regulations on any
private enterprise proposing the leasing of Cannon Mountain and
Franconia Notch State Park.
I think we all agree that FNSP is the
jewel of our Park System, and we need to preserve the history of this
New Hampshire treasure. This is the type of thinking that Peter
brings to the table, and one of the reasons we should all vote for him
on September 11th.
Thank you!
Representative David Russell,
Belknap County District 6
