Congratulations to all our winners!

This summer we enjoyed five weekly “Song and Story” and “Arts and Crafts” activities that followed our Summer Reading Program Theme, “Dream Big-Read!” These programs were lots of fun and we had many wonderful volunteers who helped make them successful, including Carol Ransom, Heather Brickner, Kim Pica, Chris Killinger and many other parents who attended. We were also very lucky to have a great group of teen volunteers who assisted with the Summer Reading Programs this year: Jenica Locke, Alex Brickner, Isaac Brickner, Felicity Clark, Emma Denis, Kayla Simoneau, Emily Chase, Essence Bourque, and Ellie Earnshaw. Thanks again to everyone who helped, we couldn’t have done it without you!

Again, a BIG thank you to all the parents and guardians who helped their children with the Summer Reading Program this year. Your support not only helps to make the program a success, it encourages your children to become lifelong readers. We look forward to seeing you all continue with your love of reading at the OFML!

Donald A. Raymond

Donald A. Raymond, 61, of Barnstead, died Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at the Catholic Medical Center in Manchester after a herculean two and a half year battle with advanced colon cancer. Don’s positive attitude throughout the fight was an inspiration to his family and friends, as well as his caregivers.

Don left this world secure in his faith in God and surrounded by loving family.  As witnessed by the scores of friends who were able to say goodbye to Don in his last days with us, he retained his incredible sense of humor to the end.

Born October 29, 1950 to Andre Paul Raymond and Vargee Malatras, Don was a 1968 graduate of Pembroke Academy. Don served his country as a member of the NH Air National Guard from 1968 to 1974.

Don retired from General Electric in Hooksett in December of 2011 after 43 years as a tool and die maker. Because of his expertise as a fabricator, Don was sought out by his co-workers to create tools and techniques that helped streamline their jobs. Don loved working with his hands and especially enjoyed restoring cars and trucks.

Because of Don’s participation in clinical research trials for cutting edge cancer therapy at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center and his unprecedented successes fighting the disease, Don was recognized at the 2012 Congressional Briefing on Cancer Research Funding in June. In a quote from Dr. Gerald Gehr of the Cancer Center during the hearings, “Don’s life proves that cancer therapy is worthwhile.  He is the face of cancer research.”

Don is survived by his wife and soul mate of 35 years, Renee (Bonenfant) Raymond of Barnstead; his son, Matthew Raymond of Barnstead; his mother, Theresa (Yeaton) Raymond of Allenstown; a brother, William Raymond of Bow; five nieces and a nephew; and an extended family of loving in-laws. Don was predeceased by his father Andre.

Friends and family are invited to share in a celebration of Don’s life on Sunday, September 9 from 1-4 pm at the Still Oaks Funeral & Memorial Home, 1217 Suncook Valley Highway in Epsom.  Memorial services will take place on Monday at 11:00 am at the Epsom Bible Church, 398 Black Hall Road, Epsom. As a tribute to Don’s love of life and unwavering positive attitude, the family requests, in lieu of wearing black, those attending wear bright, cheerful colors in his honor.

For those who wish, donations may be made in Don’s name to the Norris Cotton Cancer Center, One Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756, or the Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Assoc., 30 Pillsbury Street, Concord, NH 03301.

Family and friends may sign an on-line guestbook by visiting stilloaks.com.
