Summertime Fun At Barnstead Library!
The Oscar Foss Memorial Library invites the children of Barnstead to
participate in our summertime activities every Wednesday morning
starting on July 11th. At 10:00 am we will have "Songs and Stories" for
younger children, followed by "Arts and Crafts" at 10:30 am for children
of all ages.
Although these activities will follow our Summer Reading Program "Dream
Big-READ!" theme, they are open to the public and children can attend
even if they are not in the program. There are five weeks of activities
planned, the last one on August 8th.
The library staff would also like to invite all Barnstead teenagers to
our first "Own the Night" activity on July 12th at 6-8 pm. Come for some
fun, games and meet interesting new people! We will also be discussing
our "Night Photos" Art Exhibit and brainstorming ideas for other fun
activities. The other planned activity nights are July 26th and August
9th.
If you have questions about any of these activities or the Summer
Reading Program, please call us at 269-3900 or stop by the library.
The New England Country Boys
Barnstead’s Summer Concerts brings the sound of good ole country music
to the parade grounds on Saturday, July 14th, with the New England
Country Boys.
These boys have been playing together for 4 years and simply enjoy ‘jamin’,
‘singin’ and just ‘havin’ a good ole time! Along with their devoted
fans, they travel in the Lakes Region performing many benefits and
fundraisers. So come on out, meet the boys and let’s do some toe ‘tappin’,
hand ‘clappin’ and boot ‘scootin’ to old and new country music.
Bring a blanket or chair and prepare to dance, sing along or just chill
to the talents of these talented entertainers! Various local non-profits
will be offering refreshments as fundraisers. Thanks for your support.
The New England Country Boys perform from 6-8 pm, on the parade grounds
in Barnstead. See you there!
Letter To The Editor
To the person or persons who vandalized the American flags displayed
along the lawn at our residence on Parade Road in Barnstead on the
morning of July 5, 2012: Shame on you!
Sure, your act caused us anger and frustration. Yes, what you did cast a
shadow over an otherwise delightful holiday that we shared with friends.
And, you cost us some money.
But the true shame of your action is the disrespect it shows to the men
and women now serving in the military and who formerly served in the
military on behalf of this country so you can enjoy your irresponsible
lifestyle.
We hope one future Fourth of July holiday you will think back to your
actions today and we hope you will have smartened up enough to regret
what you did this morning.

Barnstead
Letter
Barnstead is such a beautiful, rural town, or is it? Yes, we have a lot
of history, old rustic barns, working farms and so many other things too
numerous to name, except for one thing, Litter!
Several years ago, as one of your Selectmen, I wrote a couple of stories
about the litter and some ideas on what to do. So here I go again.
What seemed to work back then was to kind of make it a family or even a
neighborhood project. It’s amazing how short a time it takes and the
results it produces, not counting a feeling of pride in doing a little
for our beautiful town. A trip to the dump is a short drive. Bring the
kids and explain something like recycling. Kids, and adults never are to
young or old to learn.
So let’s go Barnstead; you did it back then. From roads like North
Barnstead to my little street lets all pitch in and really make our town
as really Beautiful as we know it can be!
Another point I would like to talk about is Patriotism! It’s so
wonderful to see a lot of our flags, from small to large, flying around
town, but we can do better in showing our thanks and gratitude for
living in a free country by flying the greatest symbol of our freedom;
by flying an American Flag! Post 42 of the American Legion has beautiful
flags, made in America for sale for the near cost for just $25. I can be
contacted at 776-8253 and I will deliver if need be.
So let’s go folks, clean up our roads and anywhere else there is litter
and get a flag to show you are proud to be an American.
One final foot note, please keep an eye out for the young ones while
picking up the litter. I know we can do this.
Thanks,
Jack O’Neil
