Youth Mission Trip
How did your teenager spend their April vacation? Fifteen young people
from the Congregational Church of North Barnstead headed to Boston to
participate in service projects through "Boston Urban Outreach," a
program of City Mission Society of Boston.
Our youth were integrated into ministries around Boston that care for
the homeless. For many, this was their second service trip to Boston to
clean, repair, paint and serve meals. They shared their experiences with
the congregation during the May 6th worship service. It was evident
their personal experiences of interacting with the "unhoused" raised
their awareness and compassion.
Imagine yourself as a young teen, visiting a drop-in day shelter full of
men, and asked to circulate, interact, and socialize by having a
conversation or playing a game. Imagine participating in a day program
with people who live in shelters, rooming houses, on unclaimed couches
and benches, or on Boston’s streets, as they gather every Wednesday to
draw, paint, sculpt, craft, and sell their art as they share with other
artists in like circumstances. "Our youth stepped out of their comfort
zones with compassion and love. I was proud to be their pastor," said
Nancy Talbott.
Our community is thankful for opportunities given to our youth to grow
in spirit as they serve people who live on the edges of our society. Our
youth were guided by our pastor, Nancy Talbott, and our adult
volunteers, Gunnar Stohlberg, Scot Wilson, Jeannie LeGrow, and Danielle
Wallace, and both youth and adults were blessed by the experience.
The vibrant, youth oriented, Congregational Church of North Barnstead,
through its affiliation with the United Church of Christ, welcomes all…
no matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey. Our Sunday
School program offers age appropriate classes for toddlers through
teens. Please join us at 10 am for Sunday worship.

Public Information Meeting
Suncook River Nomination Into The NH
Rivers Management And Protection Program.
The Suncook River watershed is one of Barnstead’s most valuable natural
resources enjoyed by a variety of users including fishermen, kayakers,
and wildlife enthusiasts. Many a resident can tell stories of their
experiences on "the river" whether camping or fishing or ice skating in
the winter. Many of us can remember the floods in 2006 and 2007 when
areas along the river were covered by water levels that had not been
reached for decades.
As a result of these flooding events in the past years a nominating
committee was formed by the lower five communities of Pittsfield,
Chichester, Epsom, Pembroke, and Allenstown to help them plan for
preservation of the Suncook River watershed in their local area.
Barnstead and Gilmanton were asked to join since the headwaters of the
Suncook River are in Gilmanton. The work of the nominating committee is
almost done and a draft document is available at
www.suncookriver.org.
To help Barnstead residents understand more of the NHDES Rivers
Management and Protection Program and how it will impact us, the
Planning Board is inviting all residents to our work session on May 17,
2012 at 7:00 pm at the Barnstead Town Hall.
At the work session, Jackie Colburn, Program Coordinator for the RMPP
will give a slide presentation on how the program works. This will be
followed by a question and answer period. Michele Tremblay, program
Director for the Upper Merrimack Monitoring Committee will also be
present to help answer any questions.
The Planning Board urges all residents to attend this meeting. If you
have any questions, please call the Planning Board office at 269-2299,
ext 4.
