Pumpkin ‘n Pine Fair
Final Reminder

This Saturday, November 3rd is the charming, country church fair known as the Pumpkin ‘n Pine Fair.    There will be fun, food and treasures at the Congregational Church of North Barnstead between 9 and 2 pm.  Bring your friends, find unique items for your holiday plans and be sure to join us for a brunch or lunch in the schoolhouse café.   Bring the kids too – there will be child care available while you shop.  Come find unique and often one of a kind items and know at the same time you are investing in community.

Many come each year just for the silent auction!  Each year is different and this year there are over 30 items or services being auctioned.  They include a Kindle Fire HD, handcrafted crèche and a complete lobster dinner for 2 prepared by Hannaford’s.  How about an evening of music with Chris Bonoli, a watercolor by Clare Bolster or a “real” fireman suit for a youth?  The list goes on – come and bid often and go home with a treasure.

The fair has an eclectic jewelry selection, holiday crafts, delicious foods and cutting boards and log carriers for your home.  There are collectibles and hand-made gifts by artists from Ghana. This year there is a new kid’s gifts selection with a teen overnight bag and PJs, vintage toys and games, dramatic play props for princesses and pirates and tools for inquisitive minds with an interest in butterflies, birds, stars, rock and minerals. Someone has even made washer pitch games popular with college students. These are kid’s activities for the whole family!

The fair will be held between 9 am and 2 pm at the Congregational Church of North Barnstead, located at 504 North Barnstead Road near the end of Peacham Road.  Just follow the signs for Pumpkin ‘n Pine Church Fair!

The money earned at the fair is donated by the Women’s Fellowship to community outreach and to help renovate this 1820 historic church of Barnstead.  Come early and stay for lunch!

Greetings,
We are constantly bombarded with messaging from many media sources.  What do those messages really mean?

According to the Republican platform, “Pro Life” means abortion is never an option even in the case of incest and rape. I respect a person’s right to have that belief. I believe in life but I also believe in choice. I do not support someone making that decision for another person.  Whether the decision is based on moral or religious beliefs, no one has the right to make that decision for another person.

Look at “Marriage equality.”  The constitution mandates equal rights for all.  If you feel that marriage is between a man and a woman. So be it.  Live your life according to your convictions but do not restrict the rights of others.

Look at the right to organize in the work place.  If you do not want to join a union, don’t.  However, do not restrict the rights of others.  “Right to Work” can be described as Right to Work for Less.

We have a series of Constitution Amendments on the voting ballots. Our state constitution has served us well for hundreds of years. Vote “No” on all three as they will restrict our personal rights in many ways and for many years.

My opponent, Jane Cormier, and other Republicans want to impose their moral and religious convictions on all. Using the words “Liberty”, “Freedom” and “Family Values” to impose their agenda on the rest of us is not what those words are all about. Fight back against the radicals in our State Legislature. Know your candidates.  Don’t be fooled. Vote for true liberty, freedom and your family values.

See you at the polls on November 6th

Tess Smith

Bill To Benefit Small Farms And Individuals Signed Into Law

On Thursday, September 20, 2012, HB 1402 was signed into law by Governor John Lynch. Attending the special ceremony were members of the NH House Environment and Agriculture Committee, including the primary sponsor, Representative Guy Comtois of Barnstead.

This bill will allow small farms and individuals to make home cooked non-hazardous goods for sale from their home, farm, and farmers market, up to $10,000 dollars a year, without a special license or commercial kitchen.  It also allows for farmers to turn some of their raw-milk into hard cheese, butter, yogurt and other products.

This bill brings financial relief to the beginning farms, micro farms, and individuals of New Hampshire, along with giving consumers freedom of choice.

For more information on this bill please contact Representative Guy Comtois at 603-776-8989.

Make no mistake - the Republicans supporting Romney are not your father’s Republican party.  This party has engaged in unending lying and deception in their politics.

First, by selecting Sarah Palin, a grossly under-qualified, vice-presidential candidate, the GOP guaranteed the Democratic ticket would win the election and inherit the crippled economy caused by Bush economics, including $175 trillion bailouts.

Second, as stated by GOP leader Mitch McConnell, the party enacted its number-one priority of making Obama a one-term president by blocking Obama’s recovery programs - and then exploiting the economy’s weakness for political gain.

Third, promoting tax cuts for the wealthy as a job creation tool and praying that Americans will fail to recall that this scheme almost destroyed our country under the Bush administration.

Fourth, blame the lack of revenue created by middle-class job losses and Wall Street scams - which resulted in a massive redistribution of wealth from the middle class to the wealthy - on a “bloated government” - and then promote the privatization of those government services, allowing wealthy individuals to obtain lucrative government contracts and employ low-wage US or third-world workers.

Fifth, malign Obamacare. Label as socialist attempts to assist hard-working uninsured families impoverished by medical expenses, or condemned to quietly die in the shadows due to the lack of medical care - while insurance CEO’s are paid billions for denying life-saving procedures. This has become a party of religious radicals - who oppose all abortions – including pregnancies caused by rape - but refuse to help the destitute to feed those infants.  A party that enriches itself by creating low-wage business models and then labels its employees as irresponsible when they are forced to access government programs. This is not the party of Abraham Lincoln or of Christians. It is the party of the corrupt.

Ladies’ Ministry At CBCC

Secret Sister, Sister Circle, Ladies’ Ministry, Girl’s Night Out, or SisterChicks... It has several names and several purposes. One is for fellowship.  We, as females, need to talk a lot sometimes and this definitely meets that need.  Another need is for guidance. We have the capacity to know the truth through God’s Word, and we share it one with another, building one another up and encouraging one another through some of life’s difficult circumstances.

There are lots of exciting things happening at Center Barnstead Christian Church... One of which is the Ladies’ Ministries.  One fun activity we have is every month on the first Monday we have a special time just for ladies. It begins at 7:00 pm and usually runs for 2 hours. We have different ladies assigned for each month, so the activities vary according to the lady in charge.

Our next meeting is Monday, November 5th.  We will be making gifts for the caregivers of the Angel Tree children our church will support. What better way to start the Christmas season then by thinking of others. “Every good and perfect gift is from above”  James 1:17.

We have a special bond, a special purpose and truly enjoy getting together to share with one another and help one another through different times in each others’ lives. We would welcome any and all who are interested in being a part of our Ladies’ Ministry.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the church at 269-8831, and we would be more than happy to give you information regarding our events. The Center Barnstead Christian Church is located on Route 126, next to the Town Hall.

I would like to let the voters know how my husband, Guy Comtois, conducts himself as a representative.  Yes, you can look up his voting record, but that won’t tell you the countless hours he spends with his constituents. Constituents contact my husband for a variety of reasons, from voicing their opinions regarding an upcoming vote, to calls for assistance in Concord when they’ve exhausted all other options.  This does not happen often, but when it does you need a representative who will step up to the plate and be the voice you deserve.

My husband is that such person, and will continue to be a Representative you can count on.  Constituents have written letters, called, and come directly to the farm for assistance.  My husband listens to their concerns, collects all the facts and usually sits down with them to review the issue.  He has spent hours on the phone obtaining answers, and following up with the constituent to assure they are satisfied with the outcome. Sometimes they are, and sometimes they are not, but it is not due to his inaction.  He has been told by some, that out of all the phone calls and letters they’ve made to their representatives, he is the only one who responded.  Being a Representative is much more than a voting record.

I hope you will consider voting for my husband Representative Guy Comtois in the upcoming election, the one with the purple signs.

Thank you for your time,
Barbara Comtois

Letter To The Editor

It will take time to undo the damage inflicted by regressive bills enacted over the past two years in New Hampshire. Fortunately, across the state we have a good number of candidates who offer a clear alternative to the extremist legislators who, in the last legislative session, orchestrated a race to the bottom for New Hampshire families.

In Barnstead we have the opportunity to elect a reflective and clear-thinking advocate to represent us in the NH House. Bruce Marriott has a history that demonstrates a deep understanding of the challenges families face. He understands the impact of a sound education, adequate health care, job security and a healthy environment on the quality of our lives and the future of New Hampshire. He is willing to take the lead and bring to Concord his understanding of our needs.

The current legislature has enacted bills that have triggered a dangerous downward spiral. We are headed to a place where a college education is unaffordable for our children, where our public schools lack the human resources critical to educating children, where our right to vote is impeded by unnecessary obstacles, where women’s rights are demeaned and whittled away, and where the wealthy are excused from paying their fair share--shifting responsibility to our towns and raising our property taxes. This is the agenda embraced by Guy Comtois, Bruce Marriott’s opponent.

Bruce Marriott will stand up for the principles and policies that address the needs of our families. We need to elect him to the New Hampshire House. We must take this responsibility seriously.  Vote for Bruce Marriott on November 6th and get your family and friends out to vote for him too.
