It Takes A
Village To Create An Old Home Day Gala.

Barnstead, you rock! Your Old Home Day was such
fun. It was obvious that a lot of thought and work by a lot of
people caused this day to happen. It was also obvious that the
day, from the Pancake Breakfast and 5K race to the fireworks, was
enjoyed by many appreciative people.
I came from Seattle to help my
sister set up, assist on the day and clean up. I was one of many.
There were amazing, eager, willing high school students and older adults
who volunteered to help set up tents, work at various events during the
day, assist with parking, and with all the pick-up involved with the
close of the day. There were neighbors and fairgoers who, seeing a task
to help with, stepped up to take down a tent, pull a tent stake or carry
a heavy item. There were the committee members themselves who had
worked for months to bring the plans and dreams to fruition and wore
many hats, including setting up and cleaning up. These volunteers,
your neighbors, had spent months in meetings, talking to venders,
talking to exhibitors, arranging entertainment, planning games and a
myriad of other tasks to bring this one day together for the community.
Vendors and exhibitors were interesting, fun educational and/or
yummy (lots of good food!). I have special thanks to the three
Fabric Arts members and the Historical Society who graciously vacated
their tents after the exhibitors left so that we could race Hurricane
Irene in getting the tents down and stored before the rain.
All afternoon and evening we listened to the rumors and true reports
that said Irene was drawing closer and closer…that certainly added a
fillip of excitement! However, the whole day did go on (almost) as
planned.
The band played a wide variety of numbers to
accompany dancers, singers and a spontaneous beach ball soccer game.
A spectacular fireworks display brightened the night sky and brought the
day to a close.
It takes a village to create an Old Home Day gala.
And it certainly did. As one volunteer said to me, one has to
enjoy putting the day together and all the work involved. One has
to put ego aside, work with committees, embrace new ideas, practice good
communication skills, sharing tips from the past and embracing the
future.
It is a long haul; sticking with it from the first meeting
in October or November. Making commitments that must be honored
throughout the year until the last piece of equipment is safely stowed
away for next year.
As I said,
Barnstead you rock!
Founder’s
Day At Barnstead Parade Congregational Church
If your surname
is Merrill, Thomas, Hoitt, Johnson, Bunker, Sanborn, Warland or Rand, or
if you are related to someone with one of these surnames, you may
be interested to know that they may have been a past member of the
Congregational Church on the Parade in Barnstead, N.H., and have a
window in the church dedicated to them.
September 11, 2011 will mark
the date of our annual Founder’s Day, when we take a look at our history
and those who have had one of our 8 stained glass windows dedicated to
them and some of the family members who dedicated the window when they
were installed in the church in 1895 on the 100th anniversary of the
church.
You are invited and will be welcome to share in this
presentation as the topic of our Sunday morning service beginning at
9:00 a.m. on 9/11/11. Please make plans to join us to learn of the
history of the area and the background of this church that has stood on
the corner of the Parade Grounds in Barnstead since 1795.
The
Congregational Church Of North Barnstead Invites You To Our
“Sundae Sunday Welcome” On September 11th.
CCNB will gather back to
our fall programs with “Sundae Sunday”. After our 10 am worship service
and Sunday school, we will welcome new people, say hello to old friends,
and celebrate our children, youth, and our church with an ice cream
social.
Are you looking for a community to worship God, grow in
faith, and feel welcomed into a church family?
The Congregational
Church of North Barnstead is a new church of the United Church of
Christ. We are an informal congregation that gathers for worship in an
1820 meeting house at 10 am every Sunday on North Barnstead Road, 3
miles off route 28 in North Barnstead.
Our congregation is alive
with children, youth, and people of all ages. We love our children and
youth—they are an integral part of our congregation*.
“We welcome
all people no matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey.”
There are all different ages of people at CCNB and many kinds of
families. We have single people, retired folk, people who have grown up
in church life, and those who have never worshipped at all; you might
say we are user friendly.
We gather to hear God’s word and relate
God’s word to our lives. We search for ways to serve others as the body
of Jesus Christ. We believe in God’s extravagant welcome and God’s
abundant grace.
If you are searching for God’s love and grace and the
love of Jesus Christ, and a community that shares their faith, join us
at the Congregational Church of North Barnstead. We worship on Sundays
at 10 am.
For more information go to
www.ccnorthbarnstead.com,
or contact our pastor, Rev. Nancy Talbott by phone at 435-6324, or by
email at [email protected].
CCNB is located at 504 N. Barnstead Road, 3 miles east of Rte. 28.
*At CCNB, children and youth are an integral part of our worshipping
family. We begin in worship together praising God as ”the whole people
of God”. After a message for the children and youth, they move from the
sanctuary into programming that is designed for toddlers, younger
children, older elementary, and middle/high. Come join us!
Rally Day
Join us this Sunday, September 11th at the Center Barnstead Christian
Church as we kick off a new Sunday School year! Mark Fogarty, a
missionary with Muddy River Media (a ministry which provides free media
resources for churches around the world) will be our guest
speaker.
His life experiences and distinct perspective results
in a unique style of storytelling and preaching; blending humor with a
deep passion for the Bible and the story of redemption. Mark and
his wife Melissa have been married for 20 years, currently live in
Halifax, Nova Scotia, and have one exceptionally spoiled African Grey
parrot named Rudy.
There are a lot of choices in life that are
floating around out there. Follow along as Mark, using gospel illusions
and balloons, shares the importance of asking the right questions and
making the right decisions in life. The story of Jonah and the whale may
never be the same for you again.
The Center Barnstead Christian
Church is located on Route 126, next to the Town Hall. Come hear
about all the Sunday School classes we have for the whole family this
year. You are invited to join us. If you have been
looking for a church to attend, come this Sunday and see what we are all
about. Our Morning Service will begin this week at 9:30 am, with
refreshments served before at 9:00 am. For more information,
contact the church at 269-8831.
