Extreme Makeover Ctr. Barnstead

The family of Jean A. Eastman would like to invite you to a Welcome Home (open house).  She has been a resident of Ctr. Dustin Michael Despres of Center Barnstead  was among 397 undergraduate students who graduated from Arcadia University in May.

Despres was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and was one of more than 248 graduates fulfilling Arcadia’s promise of global perspectives through a study abroad experience in Scotland.

Men’s Breakfast

Center Barnstead Christian Church is hosting a free Men’s Breakfast this Saturday, August 27th from 7:30-8:30 am. All men are invited to come and enjoy breakfast. 

 
Our guest speaker this month is Scott Ward.  Scott will be sharing about his time in Haiti with the military, and about his current deployment to Afghanistan.

Israel Presentation

Join us this Sunday at 9:00 am at the Center Barnstead Christian Church for a special presentation from Bill Blount.  Bill was recently invited by the Israeli government to take a trip to Israel.  He will be sharing about his time there. 

Come see the places where Jesus ministered in Israel; the Sea of Galilee, Dead Sea, Garden Tomb, Masada, Mt. Carmel, the site of Armageddon, Jerusalem, and many more.  It’s the amazing part of the earth that all the world is focused on!

Candle  Pin Bowling League Looking For Bodies

The Year Rounders bowling league will be starting Thursday, September 15th, at Boutwell’s Bowling Alley in Concord  starting  at 11 am.

We are a group of  New Hampshire residents who brave the winter weather  and reduce some of the season boredom by enjoying a fun time of non-competitive  bowling along with socializing with all our new friends.

The Year Rounders league is made up of  folks age forty to extinction.  This is our  seventeen year and we could sure use more bodies.

We bowl three strings of candle pin style bowling that takes around ninety minutes.  Help is also available for those who are used to ten pin style.  If you live within 500 hundred miles of Concord, give us a call.  We Need You!

Barnstead Old Home Day 5K Road Race/Fun Walk And Kids Run

Time to put on your running or walking shoes and register for the Barnstead Old Home Day 5K Road Race and Fun Walk on August 27th at 9 am.

This will be the 12th running (and walking) of the 5 km (3.1 mile) course.  The course is an “out and back” that follows the Suncook River from the Parade to the intersection with Route 126 and then returns to the Parade along the same route for the finish. The race course is USATF certified for accuracy and is considered flat and fast.  Refreshments will follow the race along with a Fun Race for the Kids. 

Pre-registration is $15 and must be received by August 19, 2011. Make checks payable to: Barnstead Old Home Day.  You can register on line at www.runreg.com or email Colleen at [email protected] .  The race brochure is also available at www.barnstead.org/aboutbarnstead/oldhomeday/ohdtext.html  or at the Barnstead Town Hall.  Race day registration is $20.

Annual Summer Picnic, Aug.25th

The Barnstead historical Society will have its August meeting at the home of Ken and Roberta Pitman on Pitman Road in Barnstead.  We are continuing the tradition of the Annual Picnic starting at 6:00 pm. It is  ‘pot luck’, as usual. Bring your place setting.  Cold and hot beverages will be provided.  A short meeting will follow. 

We will be preparing for our Old Home Day display on August 27th. We are asking members of the community to bring photos or items relating to our automotive history.  We will display them in our booth.  Do you have a picture of your first car? Or your favorite car? 

We are having a Raffle at Old Home Day:
1.) A wrought iron dinner Bell by Ken Pitman, made in his old blacksmith shop.
2.) A basket with many items including a Barnstead History by Jewett and
3.) Two books; Barnstead History and The Blueberry Express. 

Stop by and visit and get your raffle tickets.  The tickets will be drawn that day.
Save the Date!  September 17th, 6:00-8:00 pm.  The Barnstead Historical Society is co-sponsoring  the Band Concert at the Center Barnstead Bandstand.  The Carter Mountain Brass Band will fill the old bandstand with old fashioned band tunes.  We will see you there.

2011 Barnstead Old Home Day Country Auction With

Russ Abbott Of Atlantic Auction Company

The Auction is one of our premier fundraising events for Barnstead Old Home Day.  It is the proceeds from the auction and other fund raising activities that enable us to present Old Home Day for the following year.  Not only are the auction proceeds an important part of keeping Old Home Day alive, the auction itself is great fun!

We are, again, privileged to have Russ Abbott of Atlantic Auction Company from Chichester as our auctioneer for this year’s Old Home Day Live Auction.   Atlantic Auction Company presides over consignment auctions at their Chichester location on Dover Road (Route 4) and at on-site locations for a wide variety of business and real estate auctions.

This year, we are trying something different with the Old Home Day Auction!   We will be presenting both a live auction and a silent auction.   Bidder registration for both auctions will begin at the Parade Fire Station at 4:00 p.m.  The live auction will take place at the Old Home Day chicken barbeque dinner that will be served up by the Suncook Valley Sno-Riders at the Barnstead Parade Fire Station.  Dinner will be served from 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.  The live auction will take place at the dinner from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. 

It is only a short walk from the Parade Grounds to the Parade Fire Station, so, come down to the Fire Station and enjoy a delicious chicken barbeque dinner and a very fun live auction.  Alternative seating will be available for dinner attendees who do not want to participate in the auction.

The silent auction will take place in the Parade Fire Station meeting room from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.  Items will be displayed and attendees will be able to submit their price bids themselves.  At the end of the silent auction, items will be sold to the highest bidders.

Auction items for this year’s auction include an 18” Sanyo HD TV set, numerous gift certificates from local merchants and businesses, a set of wireless head phones, locally embroidered sweatshirts, hand quilted items, locally made wooden pegged rack, maple sugar from a Barnstead sugar house, and Much, Much More!  Look for copies of the items scheduled for the live auction and for the silent auction at the raffle and T-shirt booth on the Parade Grounds on Old Home Day.  Lists will also be available at the bidder registration table.

Join us!  Bid, and walk away with a good buy and a good feeling that you have helped to support local businesses and Barnstead Old Home Day for another year.

Barnstead Old Home Day Concert

Celebrate Barnstead’s Old Home Day with live music for all ages with the terrific band Decades, on Saturday, August 27th.  These talented musicians play music of the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 00’s!  That pretty much covers all generations for a fun night of rock n’ roll to country music. Come enjoy all the fabulous activities planned during the day.  Enjoy the delicious dinner at the Parade fire station, then move over to the parade grounds and prepare to be entertained.

 

As always, bring a blanket, chair and the kids and prepare to dance, sing along or just chill to the talents of these awesome artists!
