Going Once! Going Twice!
Sold,
to the woman in the back row!! Words typed on a page can’t convey
the speed with which Auctioneer Russ Abbott, of Atlantic Auction Company
on Route 4 in Chichester, orchestrates an auction. This year the
auction is two-fold. Double your pleasure and double your fun!
Shhhh,
a silent auction will take place from 4:30 to 6:00. No, you don’t
have to be quiet during this event. In fact, we encourage talking
about, looking at, trying out the different items for bid. Then,
after you have gotten a good look at the items, put your name and bid
down on the corresponding numbered paper. Highest bidder wins –
it’s as easy as that!! The live auction begins at 5:00 and
continues during the BBQ-Chicken Dinner put on by the Suncook Valley
Sno-Riders (more on this in a future article). But, don’t wave
that chicken wing too high while you’re talking with your friends, or
you may find yourself the owner of a brand new thingamajig or a
whatchamacallit. Both the silent auction and the live auction will
take place, on Old Home Day, at the Parade Fire Station on Parade Road.
Speaking of items to bid on, here is a little tease of what will be
available. A handmade quilted lap robe can keep you warm in cooler
weather while sitting in front of your brand new television!
That’s right!! Another item to bid on is an 18.5” Sanyo flat
screen, high definition, television. Mount it on a wall or place
it on a console! Either way a crisp, bright picture will make your
TV viewing a whole new experience. In addition to those items,
there are also multiple gift certificates to local businesses and many
more exciting items. Great for stocking stuffers!! Bid on a
number of things and you can get your Christmas shopping done in August.
It’s not too early to start planning for the holidays.
If you
would like to donate an item to the auction, all you need to do is go to
the Old Home Day website and click on the Auction Donor link. Fill
out the form and email it to
[email protected] or mail to: Barnstead Old Home Day Auction,
c/o Town of Barnstead, PO Box 11, Center Barnstead, NH 03225.
If you have any questions you can call either Eileen Murley at
603-435-6505 or Paula Vardaro at 603-776-8131.
See you
at the auction during Barnstead’s Old Home Day on August 27, 2011.
“Do I hear $20, who will give me $25?”

CBCC At WOL
On Saturday, July 9, 2011, a number of families from the Center
Barnstead Christian Church made the journey up to the Word of Life
Family Campground near Schroon Lake, NY, for a week of camping, fun,
fellowship, and Christian teachings.
For the adults, mornings
at the camp were spent learning more about the Bible and our
relationship with God from teachers such as Pastor Tom Messer of Trinity
Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL and Mr. Wendell Calder, founder of
Local Church Evangelism in Newport, ME.
For the children and teens,
age appropriate programs and activities were held during the same time.
The theme for the kids program that week was Egypt.
During the
afternoon free time, families were able to participate in some of the
many activities available to campers at the family campground such as
swimming, tubing, basketball, putt golf, carpet ball, skate park or
volleyball. Families could also choose to do nothing but relax and
enjoy one another’s company. Tuesday’s Family Fun Day was a big hit with
all of us, as we watched our children participate in the various games
and challenges.
Some of the favorite things about camping from
families that went this year were:
“My favorite thing about
camp was all the folks from our church who were there. I love
having everyone together, playing and laughing, studying and eating
together! Love having the “family” doing camp together!”
“My favorite part was getting away from “Life” and not having the
responsibilities and stresses that normally make up our lives when we
are at home.”
“Things I liked about camp: deepening
relationships with the church family, reconnecting with old friends,
being able to be ministered to and encouraged by God’s Word through the
speakers.”
From the kids:
“I liked going to the ranch.”
“The rodeo
was the best part.”
“Eating smores!”
“Going to the beach.”
It’s a testament to the people at the WOL Family Campground that most of
the families who went have gone before with more new families being
added. Many have already signed up to go again next year.
If you would like more information about our week of family camping,
you can call CBCC at 269-8831 or come visit us on Route 126 in Center
Barnstead (next to the town hall). If you would like more
information about the Word of Life Family Campground, visit

Summer Concerts Series
Barnstead’s Summer Concerts continue with a
rock solid mold of some of New England’s finest musicians - the hard
driving sound of NewFound Grass. These seasoned veterans
have combined talents to create an unmistakable sound which stems from
their background in bluegrass, soul, rock and jazz. With driving
instrumentals and tight harmonies, the band offers traditional and
progressive bluegrass with a modern twist.
Local community groups
provide refreshments. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and friends
as you enjoy the music of NewFound Grass on Saturday, July 30th, from
6:00 to 8:00 pm on the Barnstead parade grounds.
