My Birthday Wishes

As America commemorates the birth of President Abraham Lincoln on February 12th, I will also be celebrating my 81st birthday. (The Great Spirit allowing)

I have recently concluded that I may, at some point, require some assistance in the management of my everyday affairs.

Although I am eligible for care at most VA nursing homes, I would rather find something a little more stimulating and less restrictive.

Consequently, I have instructed my children to be on the lookout for a combination “Nursing Home - Hospital - Casino - Bingo Hall and Seafood Restaurant” that allows smoking everywhere.

An added plus would be a nice view of the mountains and a good trout stream within walking distance.

A special outdoor event to celebrate family and to raise money for local breast cancer support programs

BreastCancerStories.org, a local non-profit organization that provides support, hope and encouragement to breast cancer patients and their family members, has been selected as the beneficiary of  Celebrate PINK fundraiser to be held at Sticks and Stones Farm in Barnstead, NH, March 5, 2011.

Celebrate PINK at Sticks and Stones Farm is a very family-fun event with horse-drawn sleigh rides, marshmallow toasting around the campfire, a petting zoo, raffles, home-baked goods, hot cocoa, entertainment and lots of kids activities throughout the day.

Word of Life Hungary

In a recent survey, more than 53% of Hungarian people stated that they do not believe in any sort of Supreme Being.  As a result the spiritual decline in Hungary has been a steady downward spiral in the social fabric.  One of every five adult Hungarian men is an alcoholic, and the suicide rate is once again on the rise.  In addition, 630,000 children and young people come from broken homes, which is more than 42% of the total number of children living in this country.

Because of the obvious spiritual needs, Pastor Brian and Judy Gower from Center Barnstead Christian Church travelled to Word of Life Hungary to teach at their Bible Institute. They not only were able to share with students from Hungary, but also taught and interacted with students from 14 different countries.

The purpose of this trip was to teach the students the Bible, so in turn the students can go back into their countries and teach the life changing truths of God’s Word.  While in Hungary besides their teaching responsibilities, the Pastor and Judy ministered in a local church.

The Sunday of February 13th, Pastor and Judy Gower will be giving an update on their trip to Hungary.  For more information about Word of Life Hungary please visit their website at http://www.eletszava.org/en/update/index.php.

The Center Barnstead Christian Church is located on Route 126, next to the Town Hall.  For more information about our church please call 269-8831.

Snowmobile Poker Run And Events

The Suncook Valley Sno-Riders are getting ready for their first poker run.  It will take place Saturday February 12th, starting at Barnstead Motorsports.  Registration will take place from 9 am to 11 am.  You will receive your score card with a map of the route on the reverse side.  Cash prizes and door prizes will be awarded.  We will also have a barbecue available for a donation.  With all the snow that we have, this should be a fun event, so why not plan on joining us.

The club is also planning a dedication of the K-Whopper trail in memory of Kenny Piaseczny on Sunday February 13th.  We will be meeting on the trail at the Loudon Ridge Junction, which is located in the Osborne field.  Kenny was a long time member of the Suncook Valley Sno-Riders and our Vice President at the time of his passing.  Please join us at noon time in remembering the fun loving guy that we all knew.

The third thing that the club has planned is a sliding party at the Metcalf farm on Dowboro Rd in Pittsfield on Saturday February 19th.  You can ride your sled or stop by in your vehicle.  The sliding hill is wonderful and there will be a barbecue for all to enjoy.  This event will take place at noon time.

Please check our website www.suncookvalleysnoriders.com for any information regarding all events that the club has happening.
