Letter To the Editor

The job of Selectman in our area small towns is time consuming, often thankless, and it requires making tough financial and planning decisions.  I admire anyone who steps up to the plate and runs for town Selectman.

But, as a voter, I have certain characteristics that I want to see in my town’s Selectman.   I want to see a person of good character, who has managerial and administrative experience.   Good people skills are a must.  A background in budgeting and financing would be a boon to my preferred Selectman’s resume.   And above all, I want to see a Selectman’s candidate whose motivation to run for the position is because the candidate has only the best interests of the town and the taxpayers in mind.

This year, I believe Barnstead has such a candidate running for Selectman and I believe that candidate is Francis Vardaro.  Fran has the business experience, the financial experience and also, critically important, the time to fulfill the responsibilities of the Selectman’s position.   He is a straight-forward person.  He is approachable and will listen to taxpayers’ concerns.

I strongly believe that Francis Vardaro is an exceptional candidate for Barnstead Selectman and I urge you to give him your vote.

Celebrate Pink At Sticks And Stones Farm

This is a special outdoor event to celebrate family and to raise money for local breast cancer support programs.

BreastCancerStories.org, a local non-profit organization that provides support, hope and encouragement to breast cancer patients and their family members, has been selected as the beneficiary of  Celebrate PINK fundraiser to be held at Sticks and Stones Farm in Barnstead, NH, March 5, 2011.

Celebrate PINK at Sticks and Stones Farm is a very fun family event with horse-drawn sleigh rides, marshmallow toasting around the campfire, a petting zoo, raffles, home-baked goods, hot cocoa, entertainment and lots of kids activities throughout the day.

“We are so honored and excited to be a part of this very great event,” said Wendy McCoole, Executive Director of BreastCancerStories.org. “Barbara and Guy, the owners of Sticks and Stones Farm,  have family members and friends who have battled breast cancer.  Recognizing that our support programs help breast cancer patients and their family members right here in our own communities, they reached out to our organization and offered to host this wonderful fundraiser on our behalf.”

Celebrate PINK at Sticks and Stones Farm takes place from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, March 5, 2011 and admission is $5.00 per person (ages 12 and under free).

Anyone interested in providing baked goods, donating raffle items or being a part of the day’s entertainment should contact Barbara Comtois at [email protected], 603-776-8989; or Wendy McCoole at [email protected], 603-759-5640.
