Pumpkin And Pine Fair In Barnstead

This Saturday, November 5th, is the charming country church fair known as the Pumpkin and Pine Fair.

There will be fun, food and treasures at the Congregational Church of North Barnstead between 9 am and 2 pm. Bring your friends, find unique items for your holiday plans and be sure to join us for a brunch or lunch in the schoolhouse café. Bring the kids too – there will be child care available while you shop.

Many come each year just for the silent auction! Each year is different and this year there are over 40 items or services being auctioned. They include a gift certificate for the Spa at Wentworth by the Sea and a massage by Natalie Snyder.

There will also be a catered lasagna dinner for 8 and a complete lobster dinner for 2 prepared by Hannaford’s. Want some beauty? How about an evening of music with Chris Bonoli, a watercolor by Clare Bolster or a Victorian styled bird house? Need help? Bid on Handy Dad’s donated time. Want to dress up? Consider the beautiful handmade clothing. The list goes on – come see for yourself and go home with a treasure.

The fair has an amazing jewelry selection, one of a kind crafts, delicious food, collectibles that are really collectible and fun gifts for and about critters. There are also fair trade foods and handmade gifts by artists from Ghana and Guatemala. This year there is a new country kitchen selection with handmade cheese boards, aprons, log carriers and tea cozies. Need holiday cards? Wait to see the ones we are selling.

The fair will be held between 9 am and 2 pm at the Congregational Church of North Barnstead. It is located at 504 North Barnstead Road in Center Barnstead. Just follow the signs for the Pumpkin and Pine Church Fair! The money earned at the fair is donated by the Women’s Fellowship to community outreach and to help renovate this 1820 historic church of Barnstead.

Angel Tree

Once again, Center Barnstead Christian Church is participating in the Angel Tree Ministry. Angel Tree is a program of Prison Fellowship International that ministers to inmates and provides mentoring to their children. CBCC has been an active partner with Angel Tree for many years.

This year nineteen children, living in the Barnstead area, will be receiving Christmas gifts from an incarcerated parent through Center Barnstead Christian Church.

The Angel Tree project began in 1982. A former inmate, Mary Kay Beard, began working for Prison Fellowship International. She realized that another victim of the inmate was the child left behind as their mother or father was sentenced to prison. Mary Kay sought the local community’s help in buying Christmas presents for the children of prisoners. She found that people were eager to help these forgotten victims of crime. Today, Angel Tree touches the lives of more than 400,000 children in 100 countries.

Members of local churches volunteer to purchase gifts for individual children, based on the information that PF volunteers and prison chaplains gather from their caregivers. The gifts are then presented to the children as being from their incarcerated parent, usually with a card expressing that parent’s love. The Angel Tree® program goes a long way to strengthen that fragile bond between children and their mothers or fathers who are separated from them, and it demonstrates the Gospel’s message of love in a tangible way.

November is Angel Tree month at Center Barnstead Christian Church. A tree decorated with the names of the recipient children and a gift suggestion will be on display in the sanctuary. The community is asked to stop by and select a name and to shop for that child. Presents can then be returned to the church for delivery to the child’s caregiver. Monetary donations will also be accepted.

For more information please contact the Angel Tree coordinator at 603-393-7930, or call Center Barnstead Christian Church at 603-269-8831.

Our Flag

May our Flag forever wave. That’s right, Old Glory! There are many of your flags proudly waving every day, 24/7! What if you don’t have a Flag? What if you never had one or thought of it? Simple mistake, and American Legion Post #42, right here in Barnstead has one for you for only $25.

If you are for or against the war(s) we are involved with doesn’t matter. By showing and putting up your flag, despite all of the wars, it represents your Freedom to disagree on anything. The Bill of Rights is what makes the right so important.

Veteran’s Day, 11/11/11, is coming up soon and what better way to show your respect and support to all our men and women serving around the world today. So many are coming home with incredible problems. Everything from serious wounds, broken marriages, to no jobs etc! Also, today we know that thousands of Veterans still suffer from injuries and mental problems and are finding it more difficult to find help, medically or get on with their lives because of the problems listed above.

I know today money is tight, but not many folks don’t have a family member who is a Veteran or even worse one who has paid the ultimate sacrifice or is still Missing In Action! So we as Veterans ask you to purchase a Flag today from us at Post # 42 again right here in Barnstead in memory of all Veterans!

Please call me at 776-8253 or 340-3090 and I will deliver your Flag ASAP! It’s your right to fly Old Glory! Wouldn’t it be great and so Patriotic to see Barnstead covered with the Red, White, and Blue showing our love for all Veterans.

Thank you, I know we can count on you. It will make you a really Proud American Citizen! Please Never Forget Them.

Also on Veteran’s Day, Post # 42 will be holding its traditional Veteran’s Day at the Town Hall at 11 am on the 11th of November. All are welcome for this short but honored tradition. God Bless You and God Bless America!

Thanks again,

Jack O’Neil
