Letter
To the Barnstead Old Home Day Committee:
I was interested to read the very extensive list of
thank yous and winners from the 2011 Barnstead Old Home Day. Glaringly
missing (once again) was any mention of the Horseshoe Contest and the
fact that participants always donate back a sum of money to Old Home
Day. This has been the player’s tradition, including last year when
Barnstead was not able to host Old Home Day.
Although I neither play nor have relatives that play, I
enjoy watching the guys (and one gal this year) pitch shoes. It seems
that the Horseshoe Contest is the "ugly stepchild" of Old Home Day,
despite the participants avid support of your event.
What a shame!

Suncook Valley Sno-Riders Raffle Ticket Fundraiser
The 2011 NHSA Super Raffle ticket sales will be held
Saturday, October 22 and Sunday, October 23, 2011. This year we will
have 3 locations to buy tickets: Danis Market, Maxfield’s Hardware, and
Barnstead Country Store. We would like to thank the 3 businesses that
offered space this year to help the Suncook Valley Sno-Riders with this
important fundraiser.
This year’s prizes are:
• 2012 Arctic Cat F1100 Sno Pro 50th Anniversary
Snowmobile
• $500 Gas Card
• $300 Gas Card
• $200 Gas Card
Only 12,500 tickets for this raffle will be sold.
Tickets are $5/each.
Please stop by and show your support for the Suncook
Valley Sno-Riders snowmobile club. A portion of the proceeds from every
ticket sold will stay right here in the Barnstead/Pittsfield area to
help improve and maintain the snowmobile trail system.
We’re also desperately looking for volunteers to help
sell raffle ticket! Last year we came up very short on volunteers. It
would be great to see some new club members. The club has a lot of fun
(we do more than just snowmobiling). Sign up and get involved with the
club, make some new friends! It may also be a great way for your kids to
get some of those community service hours! We only need a couple hours
of your time. Sign up by calling Matt Goodwin at 603-396-8841 or email
[email protected].
We would also like to remind everyone that the trail
system is for snowmobile use only, ATVs are not allowed. The trail
system would not be possible if it weren’t for the many private
landowners who allow the club to create and maintain the trails on their
land. Please help keep the snowmobile trails open by obeying all rules
and respecting landowners who kindly allow you to use it.
CBCC To CBF
Once again, a group of men from the Center Barnstead
Christian Church will be embarking on an annual short term missions trip
this weekend to the Children’s Bible Fellowship (CBF) in Carmel, NY. We
have been asked to assist with three projects:
1) Building handicapped accessible picnic tables
2) Removing and replacing a support column underneath a
cabin
3) Replacing a masonry block retention/support wall
This venture is capped off with an opportunity to share
in fellowship while being committed to a worthy cause. CBF provides a
safe camping/retreat environment for inner city children and handicapped
children who wouldn’t otherwise have an opportunity to learn about the
free gift of saving grace provided by our Lord, Jesus Christ.
The group will be leaving from the Center Barnstead
Christian Church on Thursday, October 13 and returning Sunday the 16th.
There is a $50 fee per person to facilitate fuel expenses to and from
CBF, food while at CBF, lodging at CBF, and a love offering to CBF. Many
men from CBCC have been blessed by this trip in the past few years,
possibly even more so than CBF has been blessed by our past efforts.
Please feel free to contact the church regarding this
opportunity, or any other questions you may have regarding Center
Barnstead Christian Church at 269-8831. The church is located on Route
126, next to the Town Hall. Sunday School begins at 9:00 am, and Morning
Worship follows at 10:00 am.
