Barnstead Historical Society
The Barnstead Historical Society worked hard to get the
Center bandstand ready for the Memorial Day services.
An all
volunteer crew from the Historical society and the Barnstead American
Legion Post have scraped, painted, and landscaped the
bandstand which is located on Route 126 in the ‘Center’ right next to
the Center Barnstead Fire Station. Trees and shrubs were removed to make
it more visible and usable. Thank you to all the volunteers who helped
and to those who donated equipment and supplies.
The
bandstand was built and donated to the town of Barnstead, about 75 years
ago, by Mr. Jenkins. There will be a re-dedication later in the summer.
Please
join us at The Historical Society’s June meeting on June 24th to find
out more about the bandstand.
We
can’t wait to hear a rousing rendition of the Star Spangled Banner
coming out of the bandstand. Have a look when you drive by, we hope that
you’ll agree that this is a significant historical structure worth
saving.
Rev. Nancy Talbott Will Be Installed As Pastor And Teacher
Congregational Church Of North Barnstead
By Joyce Beairsto
The plans are in place and everyone is invited to the
Congregational Church of North Barnstead, United Church of Christ, on
June 13th at 6 o’clock in the evening to worship together, and
participate in a service of installation. Because of this special
celebration, there will be no 10 a.m. worship service on this day.
What is
an installation? In the Congregational tradition an installation calls
our local church to confirm its covenantal relationship with a newly
called pastor. Because our church is a member of the United Church
of Christ, the installation also reaffirms the covenantal
relationship between the local church, the Merrimack Association of the
New Hampshire Conference, and the New Hampshire Conference, United
Church of Christ.
The
entire community is invited to the celebration, as well as pastors and
leaders from other area churches.
The
Rev. Richard Slater, Associate Conference Minister of the NH Conference,
United Church of Christ, and representatives from the Merrimack
Association will participate. The Rev. Gayle Whittemore, former
interim pastor of the Congregational Church of North Barnstead, will
deliver the sermon.
Nancy
Talbott formerly served as Associate Pastor at First Parish Church
Dover, NH. She also served as Director of Christian Education at UCC
churches in Wolfeboro and Hollis, NH.
Nancy
earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Franklin Pierce College
in 1992 and earned her Master of Divinity with honors from Andover
Newton Theological School in 2005. She was ordained in 2005.
She is
a trained leader in the Stephen Ministry caregiver program. She was
recently elected Moderator of the Merrimack Association of the NH
Conference, United Church of Christ.
Our
search committee noted: “In all her ministries, Nancy has cultivated
relationships that lift up the spiritual gifts of those she serves. She
loves children, has a caring and attentive presence, strength in her
preaching, and is creative in her approach to worship, stewardship,
dispute resolution and inclusiveness.”
Come
and celebrate with us on June 13th at 6 p.m.
Refreshments will be provided after the service.
The
Congregational Church of North Barnstead is located at 504 North
Barnstead Rd. For detailed directions, go to

Barnstead-Alton Republican Committee To Host All-You-Can-Eat BBQ
And “Open Mike”
The
Barnstead-Alton Republican Committee (BARC) will hold a Flag Day (one
day late!) Summer-time “Kick-Off” BBQ and meeting on Tuesday, June 15 at
J.J. Goodwin’s Restaurant (upstairs), 769 Suncook Valley Rd (Rt 28),
Center Barnstead - (603) 269-8300. A very reasonably priced
all-you-can-eat dinner of cheeseburgers, hot dogs, chips, coleslaw,
potato salad, beans and other fixin’s will be grilled and served on the
deck. The BBQ begins at 5:30 and continues through the evening. A short
business meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m.
This
month, rather than featuring one guest speaker, BARC will offer an “open
mike” for any Republican candidates (filing period with the Secretary of
State ends June 11) who wish to briefly address BARC members, and take
questions from the audience. And, of course, the BBQ will continue
throughout the evening until you’ve had your fill!!
Election “heat” is on a rapid rise…and great candidates are coming out
of the woodwork to address the many issues and concerns that our state
and our country are facing. BARC has had great turnouts at their
meetings including a standing-room-only crowd at the May 11th 1st
Congressional District Candidates Forum. If you’re a candidate, this is
a great opportunity to speak to potential supporters. And, if you’re a
voter, you’ll have the opportunity at this month’s meeting to hear from,
and question, a number of candidates “live and in person” so that you
can make up your mind who you wish to support and vote for in the
September 14 Republican Primary, and the November 2 election.
BARC
meetings are fairly informal and you don’t even have to be a member to
attend; all Republican and Independent/Unaffiliated voters are welcome
to drop-in. And, once again, we’ll be conducting a 50/50 raffle that
provides a great chance to walk away with a small fortune.
For
more information, see the BARC website at
www.BARC-NewHampshire.com, send an email to Barnstead
[email protected],
or call (603) 364-9780.
They
finally did it! After 18 years together, Tony Reale and Shelly (Stewart)
Donnelly of Barnstead exchanged vows on May 22, 2010. The wedding and
reception were held at the Red Blazer in Concord, N.H., with their
families in attendance. The evening was perfect and well worth the wait.
