Oscar Foss Memorial Library
Story Hour Begins At
Barnstead Library
The
Oscar Foss Memorial Library in Center Barnstead is pleased to announce
the start of our Wednesday morning Story Hour program beginning October
13th. Once again, under the direction of Dawn McCartney, Story
Hour will be presented each Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. EXCEPT when
Barnstead Elementary School is not in session.
Over
the past year, Dawn and a large group of dedicated volunteers have
produced a wonderful program for many, many of Barnstead’s preschool
set. We are looking forward to all the activities this year: stories for
all, many different crafts, and a snack to go along with the fun! If
you’ve been to Story Hour before, please come again... and if you’re new
in town or haven’t had an opportunity yet to attend, this is a great
chance to meet other caregivers and let your little ones enjoy being
with their peers. The Library is located on Route 126 in Center
Barnstead. For more information, please call the library at 269-3900.
Barnstead Old Home Day
We Need More People To Help!
Barnstead Old Home Day is in need of volunteers to join the Old Home Day
Committee and help organize Old Home Day 2011. Old Home Day 2010
did not occur because we did not have enough people to help run the Old
Home Day Committee. Don’t let that happen again this year!
The
2011 Old Home Day Committee is having its first meeting on Wednesday,
October 13, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Hall. We are starting our
planning particularly early this year because we need to regroup after
the cancellation of the 2010 Old Home Day. Please join us and show
your support for Barnstead Old Home Day by agreeing to volunteer to help
plan the 2011 event.
If you
are not able to attend the October 13 meeting, but do want to help,
please call Peggy Sweeney at 435-6505 or Eileen Murley at 435-6692 for
more information.

Letter To The Editor
Dear
Editor:
Now we see the onslaught of bounteous corporate money
sponsoring TV ads about candidates. My most unfavorite comes from the U.
S. Chamber of Commerce and undermines Paul Hodes’ campaign for the U. S.
Senate. Those of us who’ve followed his 2-term career in the U. S.
Congress know Paul Hodes is superbly suited to represent New Hampshire,
and represent all fairly. The ad is so bad that it disconcerts local
Chambers of Commerce, I read in the papers.
This
incursion of big corporate money to influence our elections is what
Granny D analyzed early and worked to forestall. Now the grand lady of
courage and foresight is no longer with us. She died in March at more
than 100 years old. We celebrate our “Laconia-born girl,” however. This
coming Thursday night, at 6:00 p.m. at Steele Hill Resort in Sanbornton,
sees our 4th Annual Doris “Granny D” Haddock Evening. Belknap County
Democrats, your host, urge all county and Senate District 4 voters to
come (this district also includes two towns out of county, New Durham
and Strafford).
Our October 7th celebratory event includes speakers,
candidates, high-end appetizers, silent auction, Peggo Hodes singing,
time to have those political conversations that beg having. Please
support, again, more, your Democratic party’s work, and be at this
event. Tickets are $20 each. Call Ed Allard at 366-2575 to hold a ticket
for you, for a family member, for a friend. See you there.
Sincerely,
Lynn Rudmin Chong
Letter
I wish
to thank the voters of Barnstead, Center Barnstead, Chichester, Epsom,
Gilmanton, Gilmanton Iron Works, Northwood, and Pittsfield who supported
me in the recent Primary. I had the privilege of meeting and talking to
thousands of voters in the Suncook Valley area about my conservative
message of “Cut the Spending,” Transparency, and Total Accountability in
government.
Although our efforts came up short, it was an excellent showing against
two good candidates with strong outstanding name recognition and years
of political experience.
I will continue to push hard with that
message while helping the successful Republican candidates for the
House, the Senate, the Executive Council, Governor, Congress, and the
United States Senate win in November.
Many
taxpayers have had enough and realize that more fiscally responsible
elected officials are needed to cut the spending and restore New
Hampshire to the business-friendly, good job-producing place to raise a
family it once was. And to that end, a special thanks for all those
hard-working people who helped me with parades, financial support,
allowing me to place signs on their property and standing at the polls
for me on Primary Election Day.
I will
never forget your support and encouragement. Thank you all and Best
Regards.
Jim Adams
