Historical Society
The Barnstead Historical Society will hold its
June supper meeting this Thursday, June 25 at 6:00 p.m. in the town
hall. If you can, bring something for the food table, your own
place setting and a guest. Especially the guest. This is an
excellent meeting to attend if you want to find out what the historical
society is up to and if you want to meet and visit with historically
minded folk.
Jeanne Eastman will give a short talk about Rev. William
Carr, the Congregationalist minister who was ordained in Barnstead and
served a number of years at the Parade church. Come learn more about
this much respected and beloved pastor from the 1860s.
There will
also be a short business meeting after the supper and program. As
always, meetings are free and open to the public. All are invited
and encouraged to join us on Thursday.
Granite
Girls State
Lauren Covalucci is being sponsored by the American Legion Women’s
Auxiliary Post 42 of Barnstead to attend the 65th session of Girls State
at Rivier College in Nashua. High school girls from all over the
state will spend an intense week of studying government procedures on
the town, city, county, and state levels. They will have their own
legislature where they will introduce, debate, and ratify their own
bills. Two girls will then be chosen to represent the state of New
Hampshire in Washington, D.C. at Girls Nation. Lauren is a
resident of Barnstead and was selected by Bishop Brady High School to
attend. We wish her success.
