Letter To The Editor
“Mind Your Own Business”
On
September 19, 2009, I came home to a message on my answering machine,
the message was as follows: “Brett, it’s Bill Evans, Please tell me it’s
wood ash in the corner of the field and not sludge. I’ve had a
complaint. Please call me.” I called Mr. Evans and told him it was wood
ash and that if people would like to know what’s in the field, they
should ask. Anyone who has any knowledge of the substance would know
that it was not sludge and they should know what they are talking about
before they complain.
Furthermore, it is an ordinance in the Town that sludge is prohibited
for use on field land.
If the
“do gooders” in town would spend a little more time seeing and helping
people around town, and working to help one another instead of
complaining, it would be a better place to live. God bless this country.

Free Or Die.

Angel Tree
It Starts with a Gift… It Leads to Lives
Transformed By Christ
Right
now, an estimated 1.5 million children have a mom or dad in prison. The
number is huge – but so is the opportunity. Angel Tree is a ministry of
Prison Fellowship that reaches out to the children of inmates and their
families with the love of Christ. It seeks to transform the lives of
these families and to reconcile them to their Heavenly Father as well as
to each other. In Matthew 18:5 Jesus said, “Whoever welcomes a little
child like this in my name welcomes me.” Angel Tree provides an
opportunity to connect the inmate with their family during the Christmas
season. Through Angel Tree, these children are able to feel a parent’s
love, despite their absence.
Throughout the month of November Center Barnstead Christian Church and
its members will purchase gifts to deliver to the children of inmates in
their parent’s name. If you would be interested in helping provide gifts
for these children or have any questions please call the church at
269-8831. The Center Barnstead Christian Church is located on Route 126,
next to the Town Hall.
Barnstead-Alton Republican Committee
The
Barnstead-Alton Republican Committee (BARC) will hold their next monthly
meeting on Tuesday, November 10 at J.J. Goodwin’s Restaurant (upstairs),
769 Suncook Valley Rd (Rt 28), Center Barnstead - (603) 269-8300. Dinner
(at your option) is at 5:30 pm; the meeting will begin at 6:30 pm.
With
Senator Judd Gregg’s seat up for grabs following his announcement that
he will not seek re-election in November 2010, the number of Republican
hopefuls running for the seat or exploring running for the seat has
grown to five! That said, BARC will continue to focus on the US Senate
race here in New Hampshire for the time being.
BARC is
pleased to announce that Senate hopeful, Ovide M. Lamontagne, will be
the guest speaker at our November meeting. Lamontagne is a native and
resident of Manchester, where he practices law as a shareholder with the
law firm of Devine, Millimet & Branch, P.A. A graduate of Trinity High
School, The Catholic University of America, and the University of
Wyoming College of Law, Ovide served as a law clerk to the Honorable
James E. Barrett of the United States Court of Appeals for the 10th
Circuit and legal counsel for the New Hampshire State Senate during the
1991 Legislative Session. Ovide is a member of the New Hampshire Bar
Association, the National Diocesan Attorneys Association, and the New
Hampshire Judicial Council.
Since his return to Manchester in 1986,
Ovide has been recognized as a leader of a large variety of charitable
and non-profit communities. He was honored in June as New Hampshire’s
2009 Distinguished Citizen of the Year by the Daniel Webster Council –
Boy Scouts of America. Ovide also served as Chairman of the New
Hampshire State Board of Education from 1993-1996, and in 1996 he was
the Republican nominee for Governor of New Hampshire. He and his wife
Bettie reside in Manchester, and have two daughters, Madeleine and
Brittany. (See his website
http://www.discoverovide.com/ for more details.)
In
addition to hearing from Lamontagne, the agenda also includes:
• A
legislative update from our State Representatives in attendance
regarding the recent “veto override” session, as well as new legislation
being submitted
• An update about the November 3rd Concord State
Representative “Special Election” featuring Lynne Blankenbeker as the
Republican candidate.
• An update regarding the various candidates
running for US Congress, US Senate, NH Governor, as well as for the
State House and State Senate.
•Discussion and encouragement of
potential local candidates for the Nov 2010 elections.
All area
Republicans are invited to attend BARC meetings. Our members - from
Alton, Barnstead, and surrounding towns - enjoy the somewhat informal
atmosphere of the meetings, and feel that we offer a forum for a variety
of viewpoints. So why not mark your calendar and stop in at JJ Goodwin’s
Restaurant (upstairs) on November 10 where you’ll have an opportunity to
meet other like-minded citizens as we grow our grass-roots organization.
For more information, please send an email to
[email protected] or visit the BARC web site,

Oscar Foss
Library To Hold 3rd Annual Holiday Food Drive
In keeping with the
local holiday tradition, the Oscar Foss Library in Center Barnstead will
hold our 3rd Annual Holiday Food Drive. This year we have decided to
shake it up a bit and focus on personal hygiene and toiletries.
Please make sure all items are unopened and are “in date.” Suggestions
are: toilet paper, feminine products, toothpaste and toothbrushes, soap,
aspirin, diapers and wipes, adult diapers, deodorant, shampoo and
conditioner, shaving cream and razors or lotion. Cough syrup, cough
drops, expectorant, antihistamines, antiseptic, band-aids and Kleenex are
more items to consider. This is to support our local Barnstead Food
Pantry and they could use more of these items listed above.
We are
asking our patrons to donate to this cause and our gift to you is a Fine
Free November and December. Remember, NO FINES, just bring in something
to add to the Food Pantry Box. The Staff and Trustees of the Oscar Foss
Library thank you for your patronage and support for all of Barnstead.
