Historical Society’s
Annual
Meeting.
Pittsfield Historical Society will hold its Annual Meeting on
Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at the Society’s headquarters at 13 Elm
Street. The meeting will start at 7:00 p.m.
The
Merrimack County Stamp Collectors will hold its monthly meeting at
the Bow Mills United Methodist Church, 505 South St., Bow, on
January 16, 2018 beginning at 1 pm. All who are interested in
stamp collecting are welcome to attend. Meet other collectors
and learn more about their hobby and varied interests in Philatelic
resources and issues. For more information, call Dan Day at

The
focus of the meeting was an update of activities within the school.
Danielle Harvey, Dean of Instruction, showed how Facebook was used
to communicate critical information and notices of events. She
showed information from classroom activities to a broken water
pipe.
Derek
Hamilton, Dean of Operations, presented a copy of the Newsletter
sent to parents. He also gave an update on attendance and
disciplinary referrals.
Melissa
Brown, Director of College and Career Readiness, gave an overview of
the NH Scholars Program and the requirements. Confusion has existed
in the past over the math requirements.
Kathy
LeMay, Director of Interventions/Title I Manager, described how
individualized plans are being implemented to address students
needing a boost in reading.
Dr.
Freeman presented the latest statewide data from the NH Department
of Education comparing cost per pupil and the equalized value per
pupil between districts. The cost per pupil in Pittsfield has
dropped to $16,314.84 per pupil with 69 Districts in the state
reporting lower costs per pupil and 92 with higher costs. Examining
the Equalized Value per pupil there are five Districts with lower
tax values per student in the state.
Reminder: A public hearing on the School Budget will be held on
January 10, 2018 at 7:00 PM at the Pittsfield MHS lecture hall. The
school budget will be discussed in detail.

Select
Board meeting 12/26/17- Started our review of the proposed 2018
department recommended budgets on Boxing Day (seems appropriate),
but got through highway, municipal and fire/EMS with no huge issues.
We will work on the rest of the budget next Tuesday. One of
the Selectboard’s most important functions since the early days of
New England has been to watch the purse strings of the town-
tedious, but necessary, and this board takes the responsibility very
seriously.
The
Pittsfield Aqueduct Purchase Study Committee was disbanded.
We
received a letter from NH Lottery regarding a presentation for KENO
which can be adopted by individual towns. We are hoping for a
public hearing in early February. It is our feeling that KENO
should be decided by the voters in March. A percentage would
go to education on our local level, which we could certainly use.

Osborne was appointed to the BCEP Budget Committee.
Pittsfield’s tax assessment ratio, based on sales the past year, was
set at 92.3%. This means that the AVERAGE selling price for
houses in Pittsfield is now approximately 7.7% higher than the
assessed value on your tax bill. For a home assessed at
$150,000, a sale price in the neighborhood of $162,000 might be
expected. Bear in mind, these are averages and there is no
hard and fast rule for individual cases. For a variety of
reasons some still sell lower than assessed value.

When
the weather is cold and blustery; it’s the perfect time to read!
Visit the library for some great selections – we have the best books
of 2017 on display for you to browse and take home.
The
Teen Book Worms will gather on Monday January 8th at 5:00pm; they
will enjoy a light supper and discuss Turtles All the Way Down by
John Green. The Pittsfield Writer’s Circle will meet at the
library on Monday January 15th at 5:00pm. The adult book club
will meet to discuss Roxanna Slade by Reynolds Price at 10:30 am on
Tuesday January 23rd at the Pittsfield Senior Center.
New members for all of our ongoing activities are always welcome!
During
January the 10:00am Thursday preschool story hour will explore
winter animals and outdoor activities. The afterschool Book
Adventure Club meets at 3:30pm on Tuesdays and will be making Lego
creations throughout January – animals, buildings and cars! On
January 30th at 5 pm there will be a Lego derby to demonstrate the
children’s creations. The Stay and Play group for toddlers and
their parents/caregivers meets on Tuesday mornings at 10:00am for a
brief story, simple activities and time to socialize.
The
Chichester-Epsom-Pittsfield Libraries Memory Café will enjoy a movie
and conversation with the Concord Regional Visiting Nurses
Association’s Jenn Brechtel at 2:00pm on Monday January 8th at the
Epsom Public Library. Caregivers and folks living with memory
loss are invited to come and savor supportive socialization.
The
library will be closed for the Martin Luther King Day on January
15th.

Raymond
“Ray” Wilson Webber Jr.
Floral
City FL – Raymond “Ray” Wilson Webber, Jr., formally of Pittsfield,
NH, passed away December 20th, 2017, at his home in Floral City, FL
with his family at his side.
He was
born in Easton, MA on August 29th, 1940. He was the son of the late
Raymond and Emma (Stokinger) Webber, Sr.
Ray
served in the National Guard for eight years.
Ray was
in the transportation industry for 60 years, for a number of years
as an owner/operator. He also operated heavy equipment. He and
his wife Donna owned Webber’s Corner Store for six and a half years.
and later on owned Crown Point Campground for twelve years.
Ray was
known to volunteer his time and equipment to many projects in the
town of Pittsfield. Starting with the Balloon Rally, expanding the
playing fields at Drake Field in the early 1980s. In the late 1990s,
he provided his time and equipment for Lyman Park, the Gates Project
beside the dam, and the placing of the bell on factory hill, and his
time and equipment at the ball fields on Tilton Hill. In the present
time, he has volunteered at the church thrift store in Inverness,
FL.
Ray is
survived by his loving wife Donna of 56 years; his son, Ray Webber
III ,and wife, Judy; daughter, Donna Miner, and husband Harold;
daughter Lori Roll, and husband Ed; son, Peter Webber, and wife
Michelle, and son Jim Webber and wife Beth, thirteen
grandchildren, and five great gran children.
Ray was
predeceased by three siblings: his brother, Henry Webber; brother,
Norman Webber; and sister, Cathrine Quist.
Ray
loved to tinker and fix things, and when anyone needed a hand, he
was there to help.
A
celebration of Ray’s life will be held in May 2018. There will
be notification of the time and location in the spring.
