We want your Shoes!

That is correct; the Lions Club is having a fund raiser for their Camp Pride.  Each pair of gently used shoes; men’s, ladies, children’s, athletic, sandals (no high heels or winter boots) that you donate will help the cause.

So rake those shoes out from under your bed and out of your closet and bring them to one of the 4 collection sites, the First Congregational Church, Globe, Jitters and Stars & Stripes Auction. This fundraiser is only in the month of February, so you do not have much time left to help support a summer vacation for a child with disabilities.

TOPS News

Submitted By Terrie Azotea

At Tops this past week we went over ten ways to be your own Valentine, and a couple of weeks ago we made calorie free Valentines.

Our Tops Best Loser of the week was Heather and our Kops Best Loser was Pat. Congratulations  to Pat on celebrating her 13 years of being a Kops. It’s a real accomplishment when you can do that as we all know maintaining a weight loss is not an easy thing to do, so again we say Kudos and give yourself a huge hug for working so hard.

We talked about our upcoming events like awards dinner, bingo, and Inspiration Workshop. We handed out awards for Royality to members for having a weight loss during the month.

It sure is tempting this time of the year when every time you walk into a store they have chocolate right at the door with Valentines and now Easter candy. I think they should have all of that stuff in the back of the store so  by the time you get there you may not want it or you just don’t want to walk all the way to the back and think about it. Look at all the money you would save.

It sure is hard to get out there walking with all of this snow. One of our members shared how she has lost some weight by using Walk the Walk right in your own home.

If anyone is interestested in joining us, we meet on Tuesday nights at the Berakah on Fairview Rd. in Pittsfield at 5:30 for weigh-in and at 6:30 for a meeting. Any questions please call Janis White at 491-5532 or Clair Coll at 435-7271.

Well, I hope that everyone has a great week and stay warm! See you all lighter next week!

Hello, my name is Daniel Schroth. I am a candidate for a 3-year term on the zoning board.

I have had the honor of serving our town on the planning board and the select board. I am trying for a trifecta.

I have also had the honor of serving with the Chamber of Commerce, Pittsfield Historical Society, Pittsfield Youth Baseball Association, Pittsfield Beautification Committe, and Pittsfield Center Development Corporation on various stone projects.

Favorite color: stone grey.

Favorite saying: When the sun comes up, we go to work. When the sun goes down, we take our rest. We dig the well from which we drink. We farm the soil that yields our food. We share creation. Kings can do no more. - Ancient Chinese

I would like to thank you for the privilege of serving the town, and I would like to ask for your vote again for one of the two Planning Board 3 year positions on the March 10 ballot. I have served on the planning board since 2009 - 2 years as alternate, 1 year as vice-chairman, and 3 years as chairman. This period covers the transition from a 7-member appointed board to a 5-member elected board. The transition has been difficult but in my opinion well worth the effort.

During this transition, we have attempted to compare and update our procedures with current state law to ensure compliance and to add guidance. For a second opinion, we surveyed surrounding towns and called on the experience of CNHRPC and legal counsel from the NHMA.  This is important since the planning board must represent and is obligated to help all affected parties. This is quite a responsibility and requires clear procedures with legal guidance so that all parties understand their rights. The board members should not rely solely on personal opinion but should understand and follow the law to make decisions.

Of all documents, none is more important than the Zoning Ordinance. The PB has made it a priority and has worked hard to keep it consistent with state law and the town’s plan for prosperity. During the last few years, the planning board has greatly improved both voter trust and the board’s approval record for amendments (6 for 6 in 2014) by submitting fair and judicious proposals on the ballot.

I believe that this approach – representing all parties fairly, following the law and being proactive - has set us on the right track. I would like the opportunity to continue this effort, and I ask for your vote.

Sincerely,

Clayton Wood
