American Legion Post 88 News
Respectively Submitted By Shawn Jones, Commander
D5 Cmdr Leduc addresses the
incoming post officers
Dept. Cmdr Anderson (seated) looks on.
Greetings from Loudon Post 88,
The Legion held its Post Officer installation in April. Your
2014-2015 officers are as follows. Commander Shawn Jones, First Vice
Commander Gary Tasker, Second Vice Commander Ben Elliott, Adjutant
Joe Piroso, Finance Officer Larry Elliott, Chaplain Larry Hemphill,
Judge Advocate Stanley Prescott, Historian Mike Moffett, Service
Officer Shane LaBonte and Sgt.-at-Arms Scott Newton. I look forward
to working with these officers in the year to come. I thank each and
every one of you for stepping up and filling these important post
officer positions.
We had a very good turn out of members, family and guests. District
5 Commander Gerard Leduc conducted the installation. After the
installation ceremony was finished Department Commander. Maurice
Anderson addressed the crowd and had said some positive things about
our post membership and the things we are doing. He encouraged us to
vote on two delegates to send to state convention in June as there
are important new resolutions to vote that will bring change to the
NH Legion in the future. He also spoke about his Commander’s
fund-raising project for the year. His goal is to raise $8,000 for
Wounded Warrior’s at 45 North. Commander. Anderson was presented
with a check for $200 from our post to help him reach his goal.
May should prove to be a busy month. We will be having our annual
Memorial Day parade on Monday May 26th. We will form up at the
former Legion Post location at 55 S. Village Rd at approximately
0830 and step off at 0900. The week before the parade members and
the Girl Scouts will be out placing flags and grave markers where
needed on Veteran’s graves. If you know of a new buried veteran in
one of our town cemeteries please let Bob Ordway, Joe Piroso or
myself know. The town, Legion and Concord V.F.W. will sponsor this
year’s event.
If you have served, please think of joining. If you want to be
active or a non-active member that is fine. You will receive
information from the State and National headquarters with lots of
important news that you will not find anywhere else. Also we maybe
able to help or steer you in the right direction with questions you
may have. We will be accepting applications for this year’s Boy’s
State Program at Riviera College. For more information on this
program and eligibility requirements go to.
I’d like to welcome two new members to our post this month. They are
William “Bill” Lembourno a US Navy Veteran and David Copson an Army
Veteran. David came for his first meeting in April. I thank the both
of them for interest in transferring to our post and helping us to
grow our membership. I look forward to see the two of you at future
meetings.
We meet again on May 21st at the Loudon Community building at 1900
hrs. We look forward to seeing you there.
Letter
Dear Pittsfield Residents,
SPRING IS HERE!
Most people are unaware that I am the person who purchases, plants
and maintains the potted flowers at the town hall and police
station. This has been an individual effort for years. However, the
cost of flowers and other materials has increased to the point that
I now need to ask for donations. The estimated costs for this year’s
landscaping is at least $360.00. This includes: Flowers - 6 mature
flower baskets + 72 individual small flowers - $300.00; Potting
Soil - $66.00; Mulch - 10 bags - $45.00; Fertilizer - $15.00
In the fall or next spring I am planning on expanding my efforts
into placing plants in the grassed area to the left of the town hall
steps. I need your help. If you would like to support the
beautifying of the town hall and police station, please make your
check out to “Ted Mitchell” and on the memo line write “For Town
Hall/Police Station Flowers”. Mail it to: 77 Dowboro Rd, Pittsfield
03263-3901. Any money left over from your donations will be used for
future plants that will be placed in the town hall landscape. A
detailed account of all donations and purchases will be available
for anyone’s review, at anytime.
I do not want your donations to me to negatively impact donations
you might make to the Beautification Committee, or Pittsfield
Historical Society (Lyman Park flowers). If you desire to donate to
them, here is their contact information:
Beautification Committee, Make check out to “Pittsfield
Beautification Committee”. Mail to: Tina Fife, 1394 Upper City Rd,
Pittsfield, NH 03263
Pittsfield Historical Society, Make check out to “Pittsfield
Historical Society”, Memo line “Lyman Park Flowers”, Mail to:
Pittsfield Historical Society, P.O. Box 173, Pittsfield, NH 03263
Your love for Pittsfield’s beautification is greatly appreciated by
everyone.
Thank You,
Ted Mitchell

Globe And 3M Donate $20,000
To Terry Farrell Firefighter Fund
Corporate Supporters Raise Funds at FDIC 2014
Globe Manufacturing Company kicked off its partnership with the
Terry Farrell Firefighter Fund at FDIC 2014, the nation’s largest
firefighter training conference and exhibition held April 7-12 in
Indianapolis. With its supplier partner, 3M, Globe invited attendees
to try its latest turnout gear on the Globe Firefighter Athletic
Circuit and committed to make a $10 donation to the Terry Farrell
Firefighter Fund in each firefighter’s name. 3M generously matched
each donation. In total, Globe and 3M donated $20,000 to the Fund
from the Globe Firefighter Athletic Circuit at FDIC.
Terry Farrell was a father, a husband, a brother, and a dedicated
firefighter who lost his life on September 11, 2001, during the
World Trade Center attack. Among the 343 heroes who died that day,
he was in Tower Two when it collapsed. A decorated member of Rescue
4/FDNY and chief of the Dix Hills Volunteer Fire Department, Terry
was a devoted firefighter who embodied the spirit of courage and
giving. The Terry Farrell Firefighter Fund was established in his
memory to assist firefighters and families across the nation with
financial, educational and medical support, and to provide equipment
donations for fire departments in need.
“We believe in the mission of the Terry Farrell Firefighter Fund and
have welcomed them into the Globe family,” said Rob Freese, senior
vice president of marketing at Globe Manufacturing Company. “Globe
has always given back to the fire service and we are delighted to be
able to help firefighters and departments through this worthy cause
and hard working group of volunteers.”
The Terry Farrell Firefighter Fund not only had a booth at FDIC
2014, but also manned the Globe booth with volunteers from chapters
across the country in order to raise awareness for the Fund and
fundraising activities by Globe and 3M.
“The Terry Fund has been given this great opportunity to partner
with Globe. Globe not only makes some of the best and most
innovative fire gear on the market today but also strongly supports
the fire service through its direct assistance to the Terry Fund,”
said Brian Farrell, chairman of the Terry Farrell Firefighter Fund
and brother of Terry
Farrell. “Firefighters across America will directly benefit from the
strong financial support the Fund receives from Globe.”
Also at FDIC, Globe unveiled new Terry Farrell commemorative turnout
gear and will donate a portion of the proceeds from every suit sold
to the Terry Farrell Firefighter Fund. 3M will also match Globe’s
donation for every suit sold.
“3M is thrilled to partner with Globe in supporting a great
foundation like the Terry Farrell Firefighter Fund,” said Jennifer
L. Sickmann, global segment marketing manager for 3M. “The
engagement from firefighters at the FDIC event was outstanding.”

Meet Our Members
A Thank You to FF/EMT Nick Hoisington
We’re
taking a break in the Pittsfield Fire Department’s “Meet Our
Members” series to bid farewell to Firefighter/EMT Nick Hoisington.
At age 20, Nick was one our youngest members and he had served as a
per diem Firefighter/EMT for the past year and a half. We are
excited for Nick as he develops his career and moves to Anne Arundel
County, Maryland where he has accepted a full-time job offer with
the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.
Q: How did you get involved in public safety? What certifications do
you hold?
A: I initially became involved in public safety by following my dad
to the fire station at a very young age. He has been full-time in
the fire service for almost 30 years. From my first visit, it was
like a kid in a candy store, I was in love. As time progressed so
did my love for the service. I am currently certified to the EMT
basic level for EMS. I am certified to the Firefighter II level and
hold certifications in Hazardous Materials Technician, Fire
Inspector I, and Fire Instructor I. I also hold an Associate’s
degree in Fire Science.
Q: How many staff members serve with the Anne Arundel County Fire
Department? What is the population that is covered?
A: Currently, there are close to 800 full-time or career
firefighters for the county and about 700 volunteers. Together, they
staff the county’s 30 fire stations answering the 75,000 calls for
service each year. Anne Arundel is south of Baltimore and has a
population of 525,000 residents.
Q: What are your goals for the future?
A: My goals for the future are to further my career with the Anne
Arundel department, make it off of my probationary period, and then
eventually, as things settle down, get in to teaching and training
the next generation of firefighters. I do plan to return to New
Hampshire and share my experiences with everyone.
