Almost There And We Need Your Help

The Neighbor to Neighbor Project has been busy building a new home for a Pittsfield family of seven since last fall. With the support of the community, many businesses, trades people, and volunteers, the house is 95% complete and we need your help to accomplish that last 5% and get the family moved "home."

If you, or someone you know, can give us a hand with laying the tile for the kitchen floor, building exterior decks/stairs, installing window and baseboard trim or installing the kitchen counters….

Pictured is Christopher Marcotte helping lay the flooring at the end of May. Volunteers have come in all ages and ability levels.

WE NEED YOU! We cannot get the family into the house until all of this is done and an occupancy permit is issued. So many have given so much….can you now give a couple of hours and help us put the finishing touches on the home rebuilding project? Give us a call at 435-8568 to let us know how you might be able to help.

Financial help is also needed as we have some outstanding debt that needs to be cleaned up, as well as a few more materials to buy for the completion of the project. Donations can be mailed to The Neighbor to Neighbor Project at P.O. Box 172, Pittsfield, NH 03263 or you can use Pay Pal at www.neighbortoneighborproject.net. No contribution is too small and all are greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your support………let's get this family "HOME."

Smart Steps Finale

Monday, July 21st

Party! Calling all Smart Steps participants. A party is planned for our finale. Fun is on the schedule along with music, raffles, some wonderful prizes and gifts. Be sure to attend to support your peers. Learn first hand who wins what, which town walked the most steps and who may be traveling on to California. This has been a wonderful event sponsored by the State of NH through a grant that was applied for by the Pittsfield Senior Center. The goal was twofold. To encourage people to get out and move but also to engage the 5 towns that the PASC serves to connect in a friendly competition. It worked. Thank you to all of the leaders who kept close track of their towns walkers and reported their progress.

For Old Home Day Pittsfield Goes "South Of The Border With A Mexican Fiesta"

Pittsfield's Old Home Day is on Saturday, July 19. Mark the date and join the fun! The theme of the day is "Pittsfield Goes South of the Border, A Mexican Fiesta!". There is still plenty of time to put together a float for the parade or check the web for an awesome salsa recipe!

The festivities really start on Friday, July 18. The Parks & Rec. Commission is sponsoring a movie night at the Forest B. Argue Recreation Area. The movie "E.T." will be shown. Admission is free. Doors will open at 7:00pm and the movie will start at dusk. BYOBlanket or lawn chair. The concession stand will be open for snack purchases.

Also on Friday night, the Pittsfield Players present, "Encore 2008!" "Wicked Songs by Wicked People" at the Scenic Theatre at 8:00pm. Tickets may be purchased for $12.00 by calling the theatre's box office at 435-8852.

On Saturday morning, Dustin Park will be bustling with activity. Gary Gadoury will provide his wonderful music for everyone's enjoyment. You can start your morning with breakfast at the Park Street Baptist Church. They will start serving at 7:00am. The Craft Fair begins at 9:00am. If you'd like to reserve a 10' X10: space for $10.00, please call Tammy Colby at 435-6629 for a registration form. There will be face painting, a jump tent, and (free) kids craft table. Youngsters can make the "back by popular demand" sand art jars, tissue flowers, mini painted maracas and sand art pictures.

PYW will be sponsoring a Pinata Game. Stop by and take your turn at swinging at the piñata and winning a prize. A Fiesta Themed "cut out" backdrop for photos will be set up from 10-12pm. We will have someone on hand to snap the photo and then you can go to www.pittsfield-nh.com and download your photo for a memory of the day. If you prefer, you may bring your own camera and take your own photos. JuJuBee the Clown will perform a magic show and then will delight fans with her balloon twisting. The Historical Society will open their doors to the public at 9:30. Stop by their Elm Street Address and see their wonderful display of Pittsfield's history.

Also plan to stop by the Carpenter Library booth at Old Home Day. They are currently entered in a contest to increase the number of people who are library patrons. NH entrepreneur, Robert Finlay has challenged the state's libraries to increase their members. The NH library that adds the most new patrons by October 31, 2008 will receive $25,000. Help the Library win that money!!! Stop by from 10 _ 12:30 and sign up for a library card…it's free!

There is still time to join the SALSA COOKOFF. Anyone that is interested in entering the contest, please call Andi Riel at 435-6346. Get in the spirit and whip up a batch of salsa; drop it off at Dustin Park at the 4H Booth by 9:00am and then stop by and pay $1.00 for some chips and a bottle of water and the chance to vote on all the entries. The winner is chosen by the public and cash prizes will be awarded. (1st - $50, $25, and $10) We will accept up to 10 entries…so call today!!

At 12:30, right before the parade and right on Main Street, Stephanie Joyce will perform.

The PARADE will start promptly at 1:00pm. Any group, person, committee or club interested in entering a float (which by the way doesn't have to be motorized - you can walk or ride bikes) should contact Louie Houle at 435-6938. Line up and judging starts at 11:30 at Clark Street, French Circle and PMHS. Participants are reminded that candy cannot be thrown from the floats, but may be handed to parade watchers _ for safety.

After the parade there will be time for a Siesta…a little relaxation time.

The Pittsfield Firefighter's Association is sponsoring a Dinner at the Forrest B. Argue Recreation Area from 5:30 _ 7:00pm. The menu will consist of chili, pulled pork sandwiches, salad, cornbread, chips and salsa and cake for dessert. You will also enjoy the authentic Latin Music by Jose Lezcano and Jennifer Yeaton Parris - from the Concord Music School. All this for just $8.00 per ticket. Tickets may be purchased at the Town Hall or the Fire Station starting on Friday, July 11, at the Old Home Day table in Dustin Park on Old Home Day and at the door the night of the dinner. "Virgin" Margaritas will be available at the dinner for an additional cost. Rumor has it there may be a Hot Pepper Eating Contest and the winner gets $50!

The night's not over yet…make your way back to Drake Field and listen to the tunes of Routes '56 from 7:00 _ 9:30 at the tennis court gazebo. Bring a chair or blanket and get comfortable to enjoy the ending to what we hope is a wonderful day ~ SPECTACULAR FIREWORKS!

Sombrero hats (in adult and kid sizes) are available for purchase for $5.00 at the Town Hall and at Mooveez Galore. Pick one up and come South of the border for the day!

Watch The Sun for a schedule of events and more details. Please contact Andi Riel at 435-6346 or Louie Houle at 435-6938 for information.
