http://www.dfas.mil/retiredmilitary/newsevents/newsletter/documentsthisyear.html

Are You Using Your eRAS?

Did you know you can view, print or save an electronic Retiree Account Statement (eRAS) on myPay every month? The eRAS is a complete summary of your pay, deductions and benefits. Find out more:

http://www.dfas.mil/retiredmilitary/newsevents/newsletter/usingeras.html

Cost Of Living

Adjustment For 2012

Based on the increase in the Consumer Price Index, there will be a 3.6 percent Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) for retired pay and Survivor Benefit Plan annuities. Find out when it takes effect: http://www.dfas.mil/retiredmilitary/newsevents/newsletter/cola.html

13 Payments May Affect Your Taxes

Your 1099R tax statement includes 13 payments this year. This isn’t a mistake. The pay schedule for retirees was adjusted in mid-2011 to comply with the law. Get the details: http://www.dfas.mil/retiredmilitary/newsevents/newsletter/13paystaxes.html

Letter To The Editor

To the good citizens of Pittsfield:

I read recently the U.S. has had twelve $1 billion disasters in 2011. This exceeds allowing for inflation all the $1 billion disasters combined in the 1980s. Did you ever hear what goes around, comes around?

Now as a disclaimer, I must admit I have been called the town alarmist. I raise the alarm again.

Pittsfield’s tax rate is $30.66 per thousand, the highest rate of any town in NH.

Many homes are over assessed. I understand houses have dropped a state average price by 30% since 2007. Has your assessment dropped by 30%? Now take into consideration our schools with an average cost of $17,500 per student, and still a school with a reputation for doing poorly on state test scores.

Anyway, Pittsfield will lag improvement with the real estate market because of the school, highest tax rate, and over assessed properties.

I understand in order to level fund the Town Budget, the Town will have to lay off three town employees.

Here are my recommendations:

Make our infrastructure our priority. Downsize the road crew by one man. Let the department head decide.

Downsize the Police Department by two men; way too many cops for me. Besides, they took the work from the flaggers who used to direct traffic around utility trucks. We used to spread the work around, now you have to belong to a union to do that job.

Go to a part-time Fire Chief. Spread the pain around.

Hopefully,

Dan Schroth Piermarocchi

TOPS News

Submitted By Terrie Azotea

Well, the Christmas holiday is over and I hope everyone had a great time; spent it with family and friends and didn’t eat to much. Now onto the New Year and, as we all know, we always have those New Year’s Eve resolutions of trying to lose weight, eating heathy foods, starting to exercise more and getting out to take up walking.

Well I say "Go for it" but at our TOPS meeting this past week one of our members spoke on over doing it and when we take vitamins, how many we take and for what. So when you take them, make sure it’s the recommended amounts and you are getting what you need for your body.

We had a good weight loss, which is awesome considering that it’s been the holidays. So I say "keep up the good work guys!"

We talked about our upcoming events in January and how some members will be recognized for their weight loss success stories and how they are keeping their weight off.

We have some members that have been in the hospital or have fallen. We would like them to know they are in our thoughts. We send our "get wells" and hope to see you real soon at our meetings.

If anyone is interested in joining TOPS to get off those extra pounds from the holidays or would like a new start to the new year, please join us on Tuesday nights at the St. Stephen’s Church on Main Street in Pittsfield. We meet at 5:30 for weigh-in and our meeting is at 6:30. Please call Laurel Tiede at 269-8721 or Pat Smith at 435-5333 with any questions.

Let’s start the New Year off right. Come on out and join us for some new friends and fun. Hope everyone has a safe and Happy New Year. See you lighter next week!

Letter

Dear Granite State Voter:

Well, the time has come, who will we choose to be our 45th presidential nominee?

The greatest nation on earth faces great risks; risks coming from within. Are we sure that we want to continue with the usual politics and politicians? I sincerely ask, how has that been working out? We need someone in the White House who has had a 100% Constitutional voting record, someone who can unite this nation once again. Let’s give congressman Paul a chance. One way he would bring unification and less gridlock is by having a Constitutional plan to restore America. (See his website).

Have you ever heard of a candidate who would cut his salary to less than $40,000 a year, or cut 1 trillion dollars in the first year in office while still honoring veterans’ and seniors’ benefits, or abolish the Federal Reserve Board? The time to act is now. I just don’t think we’ll be able to afford the status quo any longer.

If you’re ready to have real limited government and real sound money then don’t waste your vote. Vote Ron Paul on Tuesday, January 10th. www.RonPaul2012.com

Sincerely,

Willie Matras

Pittsfield, NH
