The Importance Of  One

Matthew 3:1-3, “In those days came John The Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea, and saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make His paths straight.”

John The Baptist had the honor of introducing Jesus, the Son of God, to the  world. Down through the ages since then, Jesus has been introducing to many great men and women who, at the time, where perhaps considered....unimportant.

In 1858 Edward Kimball, a New England Sunday School teacher met a shoe clerk and led him to Christ. His name was D.L. Moody who became the nationally known evangelist of that century.

In 1879 a pastor of a New England church visited one of Moody’s meetings and was spiritually awakened. His name was F.B. Meyer. F.B. Meyer preaching on a college campus reached a student by the name of J. Wilbur Chapman. Mr. Chapman became involved in Y.M.C.A. work and employed as an assistant a well known baseball player by the name of Billy Sunday. Billy Sunday held meetings in a variety of places across the country, including Charlotte, N.C., where a group of business men were touched. They sponsored a series of evangelistic meetings. One evangelist they brought to North Carolina was a man by the name of Mordecai F. Ham. In that crusade with Brother Ham a young man committed his life to Jesus Christ. His name was Billy  Graham.

Christian friend, you may consider yourself small and unimportant in the army of the Lord, but think this, the next person you introduce to Jesus may be another... Billy Graham.

Letter To The Editor

In response to Susan Willoughby P. E. Letter in last week’s Suncook Valley Sun. Susan takes issue with the Planning Board’s proposal to allow more uses in more areas. She forgets to recognize that a new business still would be required to pass site plan review, where the abutters are notified and arrangements between the property owner and the abutters are made and the business generally is allowed to open after state requirements are met, if any.

Susan expects tough Zoning requirements will help isolate and protect her and our town from the evils of the world like the potential to contaminate soil and ground water.

We got bigger problems coming at us, one is unemployment. Unless this town allows people to increasingly work from their homes. There will be a lot more unemployment.

In the old days (20 years ago and beyond) before zoning, a home could adapt to many employment opportunities according to the markets.

Nowadays, thanks to Susan and her gang, people like me can’t follow the current zoning criteria. It needs to be changed.

The Planning Board’s proposal is the best one out there. It creates the potential for more job opportunities and restores some of our rights.

Do not make the government have to save us too.
