Letter
Open Letter to Sen John Reagan:
In a “Letter to the
Editor” last week I publically acknowledged you as being the one
Republican senator who voted against a bill which would in
effect potentially reduce or eliminate access to nutrition to
more than 40,000 children in NH (SB7). Naturally I assumed
that you were such a strong supporter of children in need that
you would vote against your party affiliation in order to
protect NH children.
I was wrong! This morning I read that at
the request of Education Commissioner Edelblut, you “introduced
an amendment to HB 356 to vastly expand the role of the
Commissioner of Education.” Among the many other unwise changes
this bill would make is to assign Commissioner Edelblut as
administrator of special education law and put him in control of
the Division of Instruction for Children with Autism Spectrum
Disorders and the Division of Career Technology and Adult
Learning.
Frank Edelblut’s work background is as an
accountant, auditor, and venture capitalist. His children are
home schooled. He has no background in Education. I do have an
educational background in Special Education, and have been
working since 1969 with severely and multiply disabled children.
It is unethical and unwise for the state of NH to put the
education of these children in the hands on one man who has no
experience with general or Special Education. Submitting your
amendment and circumventing a public hearing on it indicates
that you are attempting to undermine NH public education.

the Chesley Memorial Library on Saturday, April 29, from

About the book: “Jacob is eating breakfast while he

He glances out the window and sees his friend, but also sees
something more alarming. Violent storm clouds are approaching!
Jacob runs out his front door to save Max, but it is too late.
At the last second they get scooped up by Bandit and begin the
adventure of a lifetime. Bandit, a magical cloud becomes a
friend and guide as they visit and learn all about New
Hampshire.”
About the author: Michael Edgecomb was the
captain of a pirate ship. He built forts and castles and
explored the wilderness. All of this happened to him in the
woods behind his house when he was a boy. He was able to live
out every childhood adventure he could imagine. His adventures
continue today, but now he explores all of New Hampshire with
his wife and four children. Mike has been a lifelong resident of
New England, spending the last 21 years in New Hampshire.

This Weekend’s LRPA After Dark Feature:
1954’s “Suddenly”
Join Lakes Region Public Access Television at 10:30 p.m. this
Friday and Saturday night (April 28 & 29) for this week’s “LRPA
After Dark” encore presentation of 1954’s film noir crime drama
“Suddenly,” starring Sterling Hayden and Ol’ Blue Eyes himself,
Frank Sinatra.
“Suddenly” tells the tale of three would-be
assassins who come to the town of Suddenly, California, with
murder on their minds: specifically, killing the President of
the United States as he travels through on the train. They pose
as FBI agents to gain entrance to a home, then take everyone
hostage while they plan their despicable deed. Sinatra made this
film hot off of his Oscar-winning role in “From Here to
Eternity,” and was keen to play a villain. He did so to high
critical praise. A sad footnote to this film is that allegedly,”
Suddenly” is the film that Lee Harvey Oswald watched the evening
before he shot President Kennedy to death in Dallas, TX.
Hollywood legend has it that, upon hearing this news, Sinatra
demanded that “Suddenly” be pulled from any further film
distribution. Because of this, many younger viewers have never
had the chance to see this film, one that The New York Times
hailed as “… a compact study of terror and suspense, with a bit
of a nervous contemplation of a psychopathic character thrown
in.” If you’ve never seen “Suddenly,” you’re in a classic
film treat! So grab your popcorn and join LRPA after dark for
this crime drama from the past.
